Yeah I gotta agree with you on that one. The way I look at it is that when a director releases a dvd with a lot of extra shit put into it than he really cares about his fans. Its just a shame that some good directors release bare-bones shit releases of their good movies...like David Lynch.

I'd say Wes Anderson. Two of his three films are Criterions, and Bottlerocket may be one soon..

Also Sam Raimi doesnt do so bad. Evil Dead 2 and the book of the dead: Evil Dead. Those both rocked. Plus Army of Darkness wasnt bad either

I have to agree with Kevin Smith and Oliver Stone. Stone's discs don't usually have that much on them, only a documentary and commentary on most discs, but the quality of them is better than the crap they throw on most Special Editions put together.
I always thought Steven Soderbergh put out great discs too. The Criterion version of Traffic, Out of Sight: CE, Ocean's Eleven, The Limey, Erin Brockovich.

Ridley Scott releases some great DVDs, and when he records a commentary track, he shows he knows his shit http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I can't believe only one person said Fincher. Ok, so Alien 3 and The Game really suck, but Seven and Flight Club more than make up for it. Who else spends as much time on his/her disks talking about everything (I mean, 4 commentaries, and he's on all of them. On Seven he also talks about the alternate opening and ending, as well as all the extended scenes.
I have to agree that Kevin Smith does great DVDs also. He's always got some great stuff to say and show.

Paul Thomas Anderson.
I adore my "Boogie Nights" 2 disc set.
Hopefully the next release of "Magnolia" will be souped up as well. Deleated scenes, and a couple commentaries would be great. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

NExt release of Magnolia? Dude it's already pretty loaded and if they are really releasing another one, I will be pissed off beyond belief.
That second disk had just about everything you listed as well as one of my all time favorite features. That being a lengthy video diary that sheds a lot of light on the genious and maddness behind PT Anderson.
Fincher and Anderson are probably the best in my book, followed really close by Kevin Smith. Ridley Scott also right up there and might zoom to near teh top depending on how the SE of Black Hawk Down turns out.
