Everyone had their disappointments this year.Which flick let you down? For me The Hulk sucked bigtime, 28 days later was a big disappointment, and of course Matrix Reloaded.

I would say A Man Apart. I was actually really looking forward to it but it is a very dull movie.

28 Days Later big time.

Old School. I was expecting it to be an all-out comedy, but there were huge gaps in between the funny parts. There were a lot of scenes that failed to execute on humor as well.

Why does everyone always say "and, of course, The Matrix Reloaded?" Am I SERIOUSLY the only one NOT disappointed by that film?

Anywho, all the fingers point to Scary Movie III and 28 Days Later...!

I would say the Matrix Reloaded but I expected it to suck.

I walked out of Hollywood Homicide, Love Actually, and Old School disappointed.

The biggest letdown was of course "The Matrix Reloaded".

"The Hulk", "Terminator 3", and "Daredevil" were big letdowns too.

I think when people say disappointed, they mean compared to the original, not as a stand alone movie. When I compare it to the original yeah it was a letdown. When I judge it on a movie by itself, it was great. The second viewing of it I noticed alot of really weak things and left a bad taste in my mouth. In summary a great show, but a fairly disappointing sequel.

I'd say The Matrix Reloaded (4/10), but like ANavissi500, I was expecting it to be bad.

So I guess Identity (4/10) is the biggest disappointment for me, followed by The Hulk (5/10).

I haven't had any letdowns this year cause most of the stuff that has been released I was expecting to be crap and they have been.2003 has been a horrable year in film so far one of the worst ever IMO.

You're not the only one who wasn't disappointed, but to many others, including myself, it was a huge disappointment considering how good it looked.

Daredevil was also a big disappointment, and I didn't even have high expectations to start with

Well, I for one, really liked The Matrix Reloaded - 8/10, not as good as the original, but still pretty good.

I'd have to say The Hulk (4/10) was the biggest letdown of the year for me.

I've yet to see Scary Movie 3, but I have an unshakable feeling that it will be replacing The Hulk - I still plan to see it for some reason, though.

While it didn't suck, I was a little bummed by School of Rock. Incredible hype sometimes breeds disappointment. I had hoped it would be like the first half of (speaking of disappointment) Rock Star - loud and rude and real. I mean, c'mon - the song they did at the Battle of the Bands was like something off a Bill & Ted soundtrack: Silly and not kickass at all. I know that it was written by Zack, a kid, but what can I say? Wasn't what I hoped. 7/10 overall. Although I have problems with other parts of the movie (like Sarah Silverman's clichéd bitch girlfriend character), it wasn't bad at all, but Dazed and Confused remains Linklater's crown jewel.

Hey, this could be, for me, called the Crowe Syndrome. A nearly perfect 10/10 (Almost Famous), followed up by a comedown 7/10 (Vanilla Sky)...

Cool topic.

I can't say Hulk (3/10 or D-) dissapointed me because I never expected it to be good. Something similar happened with Irreversible (2/10 or F), I knew it was going to be weird and all, but not that bad-weird. I have many movies with low ratings, but none of them were really dissapointments...Here are the ones I think they were:

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - 4/10 (D+)
House of 1,000 Corpses - 4/10 (D+)
Jeepers Creepers 2 - 5/10 (C-)
The Matrix Reloaded - 5/10 (C)
American Wedding - 6/10 (C+)

But my biggest dissapointment was:

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - 5/10 (C)

Hollywood Homicide. Harrison Ford had better be counting his blessings that he has Indiana Jones IV to fall back on. I've never seen Ford as bad as he was in this movie. If it wasn't for Hartnett it would have been unwatchable.

I'm surprised with so many people saying Once Upon a Time in Mexico as their biggest letdown... Does that mean you really were expecting good things from it? But... it's from Robert Rodriguez! Know the man? Know the Mariachi films? Then what did you expect it to be? The Godfather? :D

blurofserenity
11-02-2003, 06:16 PM
Hey I know the man. I love the man. I've seen the first two films in the trilogy as well. Which is why I loathed the new one. If I wanted a plot as complex as this I'd watch Spy games again.I followed the one in OUATIM but I just think it was time wasted.I wanted to see Antonio Banderas and his mariachi's kick much more ass, not waste it on plot development.Who goes to a Rodriguez movie for that? This is a movie that could have been so much more by thinking so much less.

I'm with you dh, I loved Reloaded (****/****) and i will love the finished trilogy!

As for the big dissapointments, i would say House of 1,000 Corpses was a pretty big one. Everyone said it was sooo outragous and twisted that no respected studio would distribute it, 3 years later, it turns out to be a music video to TCM2, not so "groovy". Though i guess some people dug it.

My biggest let down of this year has got to be 28 Days Later. The entire scene with the military inside their compound felt like it dragged on way too long. If they had cut that scene from the movie it definately would have been better IMO.

When a director takes a talented group of actors and strands them in this cinematic wasteland, leaving them to die like a fart in the wind, you know the movie is a disappointment.

.... of Matrix :D

ok, ok, that was silly...

As I said, House of 1,000 corpses was my #1 pick, but I have mixed feelings about T3, I didn't like the film all too much, but then again when I heard that Jim Cameron wasn't attached I wasn't going to expect much from it. Though it should be on here for the simple fact of f*cking with the first two great films.

Charlie's Angels 2: Full Throttle (2/10) without a doubt. Horrible over-the-top action scenes, pathetic dialogue and abysmal acting (looking at you Drew). More crap involved the "comedy" of Bernie Mac and the last action sequence that would have killed even Spider-Man.

Dreamcatcer (wasn't bad (8/10), but not as great as I was hoping)
Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (wasn't expecting much, but I got virtually nothing)
Hulk (thought it looked weak, but it was horrible)
Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (went to see the 3-D, but wasn't impressed--bad even for a kid's movie)
Old School (very unfunny)

I expected these movies to be something that they weren't, and that's what was disappointing.... It should be noted that only one of these movies actually got a rating below *** or (6/10) from me though, so it's not like I hated them in my disappointment or anything.

I didn't expect as much as some Schmoes I think. I did expect/hope Ang Lee's Hulk would be better than it was, but then again I was already getting sick of the cartoon adaptation thang.

Most disappointing for me, is Springtime In A Small Town. Turned out to be a tribute to China's directors of the past, and was very fucking self-involved.
