This is my first rant. I've read several of the rants on this page about annoying commercials. Maybe there's a thread just for that, but this is for another kind of annoying commercial: misleading commercials.
-Here's the commerical. It starts off with a couple at a hospital looking at their new-born son. The father (while on his cell phone) says, "Yeah, I'm looking at him now. He's perfect"...despite the fact that one of the kid's feet is signifigantly bigger, possibly a 1/3 larger (lol). Anyway, it goes on through this kids life on how this larger foot helps him. He causually kicks a basketball as if it's a football and it disappears into the air. He "accidently" trips a girl he likes in his class when she's walking by with his extra inches (don't worry, she only almost falls but regains herself). The extra inches gives him an advantage in swimming (against others, he proves be a quick swimmer). And, this part's vague, I think he turns out to be great at bowling. That's when he give the bowling clerk back the "clown" shoes (one shoes is `10 inches, the other is `13 (lol)), and he proceeds to go to his...
Okay, at this point, I was really enjoying commercial. It was funny, humorous, enjoyable, though unlikely to ever occur. Then, the truth came out.
-Anyway, as I was saying before, the guy goes to his car, which turns out to be a volkswagon.
The framing of of the car as the guy is going to it, is so obvious that I wanted to shit myself: "This whole commercial is for a stupid Volkswagon Jetta! No, it can't be! Bullshit!"
-But, it was. The commercial proceeds to say how "some cars can be a perfect fit" (I'm assuming that the accelerater is further back for comfort or something). And, the guy proceeds to drive away in his stupid Volkswagon Jetta as if this was a happy ending...
Yeah, right! Volkswagon just pulled a big "no, no" in advertising: Going TOO FAR out of their way to advertise one of their stupid cars. Maybe it's my dishaste for Volkswagon (I'm obviously not so crazy about their cars...), but I didn't like how they pulled a U-turn on me for that. I found the guy with this "perfect" and "Lucky" larger foot funny. Yet, it turned out to be one big con! That vehicle he was going to could have been a Corvette (I love Corvette's) or any Chevrolet vehicle (I like Chevrolet), but I still would have been pissed. This rant probably seems silly, and there's probably worse misleading commercials, but this is the one that truly pisses me off and leads me to start my own rant.
Generally, I found this commercial too misleading. It had me going for it (the dude with his "perfect" and "lucky" larger foot (lol)), but turned out be a desperate ad for a Volkswagon Jetta (it could have been a cool Ferrari, and I'd still be pissed!). Does anybody agree with me on this? I also think this is a brand new commercial, at least my first time seeing was just this hour, but I hope someone out there feels my pain.
