The Pact of the Schmoes: Episode VI-The Boycott Strikes Back

I plan to make a boycott against Master and Commander (not the porno I made with Marylin Chambers a while back), which looks like a bloated, pretentious picture from a great director and actor, and from another idea by the great El B., a boycott against the shitty looking Honey (which stars Mandy Moore, if I'm not mistaken.).

Who's with me?

Well, Master & Commander reminded me of Mutiny on The Bounty meeets White Squall. I am very ehhhhh on Mr. Crowe by now but if I get asked to see M&C I would be hop right into the car and LETS GO!!! :D
As for Honey,
quietly snickers I have NO intentions of goin to this! Jessica Alba's character just makes me laugh! Sorry, and I thought Glitter was baaaaa...
This movie takes the cake... SO BOYCOTT Honey!.

What is with all these Pact/Boycott threads? A boycott against "Master and Commander"? That is a joke. A boycott against "Honey" (which stars Jessica Alba actually, not Mandy Moore)? Now, I can understand that.

Peter Weir is not a director who deserves a boycott, I don't care what feelings you have towards Dead POet's Society or Green Card.

The man GAVE Robin Williams and Harrison Ford the best roles of their careers and showed they could act past their schtick!

Peter Weir and Russell Crowe together! It's gonna be FRIGGIN' AWESOME!

i think that master and commander looks like crap, but i don't feel there's any movie that looks shittier than honey. so if the decision to boycott honey is implimented, sign me up!

I think I have made my feelings towards Russell Crowe known on these boards in the past.

Hell ya, im in

Ill do Honey too - seems like every other tired triumph over adversity flick (although i do like Missy Elliott)

In my opinion, Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World looks like one of the best films of the year. Let's see here, Weir, Crowe, and Bettany? How can't it be good?

On another note, these boycotts are getting a little old. If you don't want to see the movie, fine. But don't boycott it and influence other people's opinions.

I heard Jessica Alba is naked quite a bit in Honey. Is the boycott still a go?

Hmmm.....No plans to see it anyway, The trailer made it look pretty crap. And i am not a fan of Russell Crowe either....

no it's not appealing to me in the slightest.

i'd like to see it sink without a trace (see what i did there ;)) but i guess it will do well.

oh well. personal boycott ahoy.

ps-i do agree. the boycott threads are getting a little old now :)

I agree with you here. I thought this was a site for people who love movies, not people who want to boycot movies because of a certain director or actor.

it never occured to me that when boycotting a movie i would influence someone's opinion. i remember when i saw some other boycotts, it never made me completely change my mind on whether i would give the flick a chance. i think that people will see the movie if they want to, regardless of what some of us are saying.

Well, now, I like sea movies that take place in the 18th century(my fav century!) Not to mention it gives James D'Arcy, a GREAT actor, the chance to be seen in something big budget. I hope it's his big break.

I think I'm gonna start getting people to call me the Captain.

I won't be wasting money seeing Master and Commander - The Longest, Stupidest Title for a Film This Year, which just screams "Come watch me tread the boards, and give me an Oscar."

And I wasn't going to even consider wasting money on Honey, but if Jessica Alba is naked, as mentioned above, I'm sooooo there.

Edit...I just read on IMDB that it is rated PG13. Count me in on the Honey boycott, too.

Here's a scenario for you. Let's say some infact schmoes find their way into this thread. They don't have much opinion on the film yet, but they see veteran schmoes boycotting it and they decide they will too so they can fit in. I'm sure it happens. Some people are too easily influenced.

Then they should consider growing spines and strong senses of self so they're not so easily influenced.

In the meantime the rest of us should continue living our lives unimpeded.;)

Sorry, but I can't join. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World looks epic, exciting, and beautifully-made, and Honey looks like fun fluff, with good dance numbers.

I'll sort of join in the "boycott" i guess. But it's more because I wasn't planning on seeing Honey anyway, and ditto with Master and Commander. From what i've heard, Master and Commander is looking good to a lot of people, but the trailer and everything I've heard about it so far just doesn't seem like my type of film.

I'll admit Br. had a great idea on boycotting Honey.

But the Master and Commander boycott is allllll my idea. Great director, great actor, but the trailers look horrid.

I didn't mean change the way you post. What I am saying is that keep in mind that unfortunately people sometimes find the bandwagon easy to hop on. There's a big difference between saying you didn't like a movie and explaining why and refusing to see it.

This thread is all in fun. Like the other pacts.

I still think the films look like crap though.

Ones I would really really REALLY boycott would be sequels to Battlefield Earth or Schumacher returning to the Batman series.

So far it has a 100% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes. It's only six reviews so far, but it's still a good sign.

Yep , i agree , the film looks great , and i'm looking foward to it , even if the title is a bit silly and too long , it looks like one hell of a rousing epic , the serious version of Pirates of the Femmebots ( i like that film , relax ) .

Pirates was over the top fantastical with it's characterizations and visuals , M and C is the realistic version of tough as nails mariners . I see this film cleaning up something fierce at the box office , it looks to appeal to almost everyone , but the lack of the obligatory romantic subplot / love triangle may hurt it just a bit . I'm freakin grateful for that , a movie about real men again , thank you Mr Weir , just show me men being men and i'll be happy .

Also , the action sequences and cinematography look fantastic , the really put a serious amount of work into this film , and the attention to detail looks to be terrific .

I know some people have a problem with Crowe's off screen hijinx , but he's not the same person anymore , ever since he got married . He's got the nice family thing going now , he probably knows there was no future in being a drunken dickwad , so i'd like to see the guy get another hit , he's learned his lesson .

I agree on the first part, not on the second. :)

About HONEY...I'm still boycotting it. I don't think Jessica's gonna be very naked in it -- it got a PG-13 rating. Now I know that don't mean much...but if it's just for the PG-13 nudie scenes, I can download 'em off Kazaa...free. ;)
