View Full Version : A rant against some shmoes....

Alright no offense intended here, but help me understand...what is the point of creating a thread like "What movie did you watch today?" It generates like a thousand replies, and nobody ever reads anybody else's. It's like asking what color socks did you put on today? There is no room for discussion or anything. I don't get it personally.

Pointless, as you say (or at least imply).

The threads that I hate even more are the ones where wannabe writing schmoes say 'Please help me, here's a writing sample'
and despite the fact that the feedback they receive is gold, every follow up they make consists of
'no, you don't get it. Can't you read? you must be an idiot.'

I'm not naming names, but stupid, fucking egotistical, infantile, hack, no-talent fucktards like this are a great argument for compulsory sterylisation and should be killed.

Thank you for your time.

I totally agree. Same with the "What are you going to rent today/this week/this month?" threads and a lot of the threads in the Best/Worst/ Favorites forum. No one reads the other responses.

Glad to see you got it off your chest. If you think they are pointless, then don't look at them. You problably knew soemone was going to write this, and have some response already pre-written in your head, but it's the truth. If you think it's pointless, ignore it, which I am sure you are already doing. Enjoy the rest of the stuff, because this is a great site. Don't get bogged down on what you think is crap.

I'm wearing white ankle cut socks and I rented 'Shanghi Knights' on dvd from my library yesterday.

Its like Doc said, if you dont like it, dont pay attention to it. Thats what is great about these boards, freedom to reply to anything you want and freedom to ignore what you dont care about.

Hey, I think quite a few of the schmoes enjoy the "What did you watch today?" thread. It gives them a medium through which to make fun of me whenever I watch the next AIR BUD movie.

:D

Amen HAKARI!!!!!!!! A man who lists Fargo as his favourite movie yet watches Air Bud religiously is a very odd case...anywho I enjoy the thread in question and in contrast to what you may think I do read the other posts in between mine every time I post in there to see if anyone has seen a movie of interest to me. It can spark some interesting conversations! And as Adam J. announced, it's a perfect medium to ridicule him for Air Bud and Good Boy...

I don't know how you came to that conclusion, but there are many schmoes who participate in that thread on a regular basis. Often commenting on what others have watched and what they thought about particular movies. In my opinion, it's one of the more interesting threads on these boards.

But believe what you will.

"FRREEEEDOM!" I would have to agree with these sentiments exactly.

I get what you're saying, but the thread you mention is huge. But the biggest threads are almost the most boring because there's too much to read.

That said, it is fairly interesting when someone mentions a film that I like/hate and gives a few comments or a rating. It seems pointless when someone's post is just "The Omen".

That thread would be a hell of a lot more interesting if we could arch out and go a little off topic, some of the conversations I used to have in that thread were fun (all stemming from one movie or point) but obviously everyone chips in with "keep it on topic please" which automatically equals ZZZZZZZ.

Exactly. I used to just post a title and rating, but now I comment on the movies I've seen throughout the day.

Established schmoes use the "search" feature, if you have something to contribute to the thread jump in, if you don't like what you see click away and moooooove on.

To each his own, as I always say, but I actually read that thread quite a bit, just to see what everyone is watching and what they're rating those films. I find it quite interesting. Just because folks don't reply to a topic doesn't mean that it's not being read. Consider the hundreds of "guests" and page "views" with no registrations and responses, and you'll gauge the number of folks who simply like to read other people's stuff.

Having said that, I have to close this thread because it's more of a "personal" issue and we don't want to clutter up our forums with threads of the sort. If you think about it, I'm sure every single person on this board has a problem of some sort with some thread in some forum, but like one of the posters in this thread said....just don't read the ones that don't interest you.

I'm closing this because we want the RANT, RANT, RANT forum to concentrate solely on MOVIE-RELATED BITCHINGS.

Thanks for understanding.
