This thread may have been done before but I haven't seen it. Anyways my picks for that would be Forrest Gump or Top Gun.I hated them both.

Do these two movies still qualify as overated? There's a very good deal of negative opinions on both.

Star Wars? If I had the power I would kick you out, ban you, and burn down your house!

Just kidding, and I'm not one of those people that dresses up and sleeps outside of theaters, I just love the movie though. What didn't you like about it?

I didn't hate it, but I just find it incredibly overrated (oh how I hate that word). The special effects were great I'll admit that, and of course Darth Vader, Han Solo and Obi Wan are cool as shit. But, sorry, this film just didn't amaze me like it did to many other people. The dialogue was corny, the acting was mostly unacceptable and dare I say it, even for a sci-fi/adventure movie, it was actually kind of boring. It's a well made movie, but do I like and enjoy it............no.

Scarface, both Godfathers? You must have quite a grudge against Pacino.

No particular grudge against Pacino, he just needs to stop picking such sh*tty movies to star in.

Yeah Godfather and Scarface....career suicide there.

Where to start?

The Exorcist
Fight Club
Moulin Rouge
Forrest Gump
On the Waterfront
West Side Story
Star Wars (entertaining but not among the true greats)
The Godfather (excellent but still overrated)
The Shawshank Redemption (good but all-time top 10; don't think so)
Gladiator
Rocky
Independence Day
E.T
Die Hard
Reservoir Dogs
Network
Taxi Driver (no denying its cinematic flair but i simply don't like it)
The Matrix
Birth of a Nation
The Usual Suspects

Apologies to anyone whose top 20 this is. Don't shoot me ("i'm only the piano player").

And going international;

Life is Beautiful
Amélie
Bicycle Thieves
La Strada
Wild Strawberries
Farewell my Concubine

Hardly any of the "Best Picture" or Foreign Film" Oscar winners deserved it.

Now i'm widely loathed but at least give me credit for sticking my neck out.

Agree with all of these. I've voiced my extreme dislike for Life is Beautiful many times on the boards. Gladiator is dreadful and cliched; I used to like Forrest Gump, but not anymore. Same goes for Fight Club. Independence Day is shite, though I did enjoy it once before. Star Wars is the definition of the word "overrated". I have no idea what rating to give The Birth of a Nation, but I sure as hell don't like it, even if it is an influential picture. The Matrix is decent but nothing special. The Usual Suspects and West Side Story are great, but not as great as they were made out to be; but I need to give both another re-watch. The rest of the films you've mentioned I either like or love.

I'm also not fond of the following films at all....

Platoon
Se7en
Doctor Zhivago
Donnie Darko
Braveheart

I absolutely DETEST the following movies......

The Blair Witch Project
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
Doctor Doolittle (1967 version)

Oh yes, Donnie Darko and Braveheart; how did i forget them?

Life is Beautiful and Amélie almost made me sick (literally). I had to leave the cinema , cos stuck in the front row for Amelie, overwhelmed by saccharine and cloying close-ups, was more than i could take. Roberto Benigni gets on my nerves big time.

And Last Tango in Paris.

While I disagree with you on Forrest Gump, I completely agree with the other two. I forgot about Legally Blonde but probably because it wasn't a memorable movie. Infact, if it wasn't for Reese Witherspoon the movie wouldn't have worked AT ALL.
