Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) is the only horror flick to ever scare me really bad. Although Psycho, Halloween and The Exorcist gave me the beejebees.

I know alot of people are gonna argue with me, but I was absolutly terrified the first time I saw The Eye in theaters. Just the feel of a dark theater, surround sound, and the build up to it that I had seen left me shaking afterwards.

Nope! Hell, I saw Nightmare On Elm Street when I was like 6 or so. So, if I can sit through that. Then ain't shit gonna scare me. Besides, I fear nothing. But some movies have shocked me. When I first see them, second time around it's like eh, big deal. Know what I mean?! 'Nuff said. L8rs all.

I dont understand how people can fall apart like that from cinema. Ah well, I guess our minds are all different. Just happy mine can handle the dark stuff since I delight in it so much

It depends upon if you can invest yourself in the characters....most of the cynical "so scare me" types are never able to invest themselves in the characters, so nothing "scares" them about movies.
It's also harder to scare moviegoers now then it was in the 70's, 80's, etc. (even before then). Then there weren't 500 cable channels, the internet, etc. so exposuer to such movies was limited. When I was younger and saw movies like Halloween, The Exorcist, Friday the 13th, etc. they were scary because there weren't 50 movies just like it on cable or at the video store.
Moviegoers have become desensitized due to oversaturation.
Also, when I was a but older and we'd rent horror videos, we got together and helped create a fun, scary atmosphere, we'd turn out the lights and concentrate on the screen...we didn't have cell phone distractions, etc. If a noisy cunt started ruining the experience, we kicked their asses out. We had fun with it and got invested in the movie as a group.
Now it seems all about a bunch of kids sitting around, drinking beer and playing the home version of MST3K.
And forget trying to get invested in a horror movie with a bunch of loudmouth teeny boppers with their damn cell phones and inability to shut the fuck up once the movie rolls...I remember getting into Blair Witch and enjoying and then wouldn't you know it...a bunch of teenyboppersdecide it's time to start discussing their plans for the next day and someone bringing a fucking baby to see the movie...thanks fuckstick, ruin a movie for me...hell, it might have even scared me had I had a chance to watch it unmolested...
So, with a challenge of "so scare me" probably just not going to happen.
Ooh, just thought of somethign scary, watch "Steel Magnolias", "Pretty Woman" and "Titanic" back to back to back and you'll most likely sleep with the lights on for the next week...fuck, I get chills just thinking about it...

The Exorcist put the stain in my drawers! Still does now if I watch it.
Romeo & Juliet, you had a great one on your list that I had long forgotten about that really scared the piss out of me, especially the opening scene. "When A Stranger Calls". I dare any of you on this board to watch it alone in the dark and honestly tell me you weren't terrified.

This post is not directed at any schmoe in particular. I'm really not trying to piss anyone off, so if I do, I'm very sorry. It's just that threads of this nature happen to be a pet peeve of mine, and I just have to address the issue of people saying a horror movie has never scared them.
I'm getting so tired of this whole "No horror film has ever scared me" mentality. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't fear a BASIC HUMAN EMOTION? You'd never hear anyone say that they've never laughed during a film, or that no film has ever moved them, so why is it that schmoes are constantly going on about how they have never been frightened by a movie? Either a) I'm just a scaredy-cat or b) it's just a bunch of macho posturing. I'm leaning towards the latter, but hey, who knows?
I just find it highly improbable that someone has never been scared by a movie. It just doesn't add up. I mean, let's think about what it means when a you say that. In all of the movies you have watched, there has never been a single image, idea, noise, voice, scene, character, WHATEVER, that has frightened you? Keep in mind that being scared doesn't mean shitting your pants in fear. If you're saying that you've never been absolutely terrified to death, then maybe I can accept that. But there are many different ways of being scared, you know. Petrified, creeped out, shocked, unnerved...all of these words mean scared! You're saying that a movie has never provoked such a reaction in you? And what about jump scares? For all that we loathe them, they can be damn effective! I've nearly had a heart attack over that cat jumping out of a box, or person popping up from out of nowhere. No jump scare has ever startled you? Ever? Not once? Congratulations, you're officially made of stone. Okay, fine, maybe I can accept that you don't even get startled or creeped out, I mean, after all, you are a hardened genre fan. But you're telling me that you were never scared by a movie, even as a child? What the hell? That just doesn't make sense. What kind of a child is impervious to fear? I remember watching Scream when I was 11 and almost pissing myself. I remember watching Arachnophobia and checking my slipper every day for years before I put them on. For crying out loud, Spookies (a movie that most consider terrible) scared the living daylights of me when I saw it when I was about 8. I can't count the number of episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark that kept me awake at night. So what I'm saying is, I find it very difficult to believe that anyone was never scared by a movie even as a child, the time at which we are at our most vulnerable. But most of all, I feel sorry for you. Part of the reason I'm a horror fan is that feeling you get when you see a really good scary movie. I absolutely love being scared. There are no words to describe the enjoyment you can get out of watching horrific events unfold before your eyes, all the while knowing that you're safe and sound. I have been scared by movies many, many times, and I wouldn't change it for the world.
For the reasons I've just listed, I find the whole "I've never been scared by a movie, ever" attitude very difficult to believe. Next time you say that, think about what you are saying.
"I have never, ever, even been remotely scared, frightened, creeped out, shocked, or startled by a single image, idea, noise, voice, scene or character in any movie, at any age in my entire life."
Does that make sense to you? Because to me, it just doesn't.

I've had loads of 'jumps' while watching some films, but what happens to me is hours later when I'm back at home, my mind continually plays over events or certain sequences in the film - moreso if those scenes were of a disturbing or startling nature.
I've jumped a couple of times, but not recently. And movies don't scare me, they make me edgy. Like The Ring, that made me edgy. But that's about it, like I said, movies don't scare me.

I've never been really SCARED of a horror movie, I've jumped a few times but that's about all.

Pumpkinhead- you are officially my favorite schmoe ( no offence spacemonkey, r & j, psychocandy, bloodfester). Seriously, AMEN to your point. You took the words right out of my mouth!
This is a thread asking those of you to tell us what DID manage to create uneasiness, a shiver, a moment of worry, a lump in the stomach, not a thread to tell us what DIDN'T scare you. If you want to talk about that then we should open up a thread about 'who is a real man and why.'
And with that................I will once again bring up the terror that is, was, and always will be when I was 10 in a movie theare in 1979.....I gave you the "Inside-Out" bear a/k/a Prophecy (1979)
Oh and I was pleased to feel very creeped out and a little shaken at parts of The Eye. That was a great feeling to have once again after decades being absent.

Have I ever been scared? Yes. Mainly by Pet Sematary(the music, the atmosphere, and ESPECIALLY Zelda...), but there were a few other movies where I was frightened, mostly at just parts of the film.
Heres, my list...
1. The first half of The Haunting 1999 gave me the willies and a big jump scare with a skeleton, while the remaining half of the flick was a fun, entertaining, CGI filled time with a few suspenseful moments.
2. SPOILERS...Killer Klowns from outerspace. Odd choice, but two parts kinda creeped me out. The clown luring the little girl from the big top burger place, and the same clown making officer Mooney a human mannequin.
3. Ghosthouse. A few parts scared me(Dont laugh), and they are scattered throughout the film.
4. The Ring. It didn't scare me as much as I hoped it would, but it still got me at places like the ending, the closet girl, and the dream.
5. JAWS. The estuary scene scares the shit outta me, seeing that sharks large head under the water near the guy knocked off his boat. The opening and Ben Gardner scenes terrified me at the first viewing, and still hold up well today.

I think when a question such as this is addressed, people have different opinions on what it means to be scared. I see those who have had nightmares by films, kept awake at night, had to have the lights on. No movie has ever affected me like that. I have never had a nightmare either. Everyone's brain just works differently.

Jump scares, to me, are not scares. They are startling reactions. I believe everyone has had these, although I hate the predictable ones :)

As a child I watched Jaws, Poltergiest, Critters, and Child's Play. None of them really scared me. BUT when I got on a boat I was scared a shark was going to eat us. That may count. I was pretty young.
At 12-13 I watched NOES and TCM and it didn't bother me.

I've watched movies I've found creepy - Alien, The Thing, and In the mouth of madness. So in general I find these Creepy flicks. I also was disturbed/bothered by none other than Cujo after watching it. Had me looking over my shoulder. Only movie to do that to me. Out of 100s of violent, shocking films why this one would be the one I dont know. I guess animal horror bothers me the most.
Interesting post, by the way.

i've definitely been scared...let's see...

2. the boat ride in willy wonka...scary shit, yo
3. i think i saw part of amityville and it scared me
4. the red things that take their heads off in labyrinth were, and are still, the scariest things EVER
now that i'm old...
1. i won't watch the ring or ringu sheerly out of the fear of fear...
2. i got scared watching identity because of a conversation i had w/my fiancee...<SPOILER> the personalities in his head think they're real people throughout the movie...well, we think we're real people too...
3. the images in event horizon haunt me as i type...except the shitty CGI burning man....it sucked
