I thought it was kick ass and I love the movie. Who the hell cares if it is a bit unrealistic, in the movies point of view it was not unrealistic it was happening. You see all kinds of unrealistic stuff in movies anyway. Only you can make yourself enjoy something and if you dissect it too much well then, there goes your pleasure. Just like the damn boogey man, there is no god damned boogey man but we watch movies about them anyway.

well the movie also tries to point out that the boat was dragged way down when they tried to raise the cage...the boat was pretty much in the water so it wouldnt be so hard for a shark to get on....if u really want some laughs, watch part 4 and u get to see it roar like a lion and stand on its fin ;)

That part IS kick ass.

It's the climax of the movie, so it didn't bother me one bit. I agree with ParileseMonster...we see unrealistic things in the movies all the time, so popping out of water onto the boat is tame compared to what many films might try to do.

To be totally realistic no. The shark was up on the boat too long and would have been suffering from oxygen depravation. Add to this the fact that it would risk massive damage to it's gills by jumping onto the boat like that. Plus the fact that in all my reading I've never heard off a graet white doing this and you have a HIGHLY unlikey scenario.


But the movie still kicks ass so who cares? (I like Independance Day also and the science in that movie is so terrible it's laughable)

i saw on an NBC documentary about white sharks that showed a great white attack a surfboard. the thing came up righ under it, grabbed the board and lept a good 8 feet out of the water when it did it. and this was a 25 foot shark. it was huge. so yes, they can do that. it just didnt look right in the movie cause the shark itsself didnt look to convincing when it was shown from the side tipping the boat.

the shark didnt have much to jump...if u watch the scenes right before it does...the boat was being dragged basically underwater from the force of the cage

honestly, i don't know if it could in real life or not...however, i think this stunt was VERY realistic compared to the shit the sharks did in deep blue sea...that movie had sharks fucking swimming backward...hell, jaws was a (excuse my lack of PC) crip shark compared to these CGI wonders...

Sharks, when pressed to do so, will literally commit suicide from the anticipation of a tasty meal danglin in front of them. Yes, some instances of sharks doing that CAN happen. And has in past. Years of reading up on sharks and talking to zoologists and seamen (no, not semen) who have been deployed at sea for months have had some stories of sharks scaring the living shit out of them for being so brave as to pop out of the water. And these were the big mighty great whites.
They literally go ballistic at the thought of eating and eating more. And eating more. I call it the retard factor. They go completely mental.
