Wow, this movie looks excellent! Three of my favorite actors!

Your thoughts?

side note: the trailer "borrowed" music from Pearl Harbor...

I think it looks like an epic bore, with an epic running time. Being Miramax's big Oscar flick, we'll be hearing a lot more about it. The cast is first rate, but the book was pretty bad

Really...the book was that bad?

In my opinion, yes. A lot of people on the board probably liked it, though I found it to be a chore to get through. Many on amazon.com agree with me, last I checked

You're right. I'm reading it for english class right now, and it's so descriptive to the point of boredom. I'm hoping the movie is good, but I'm beginning to have some doubts.

Test screening reviews have been so-so for this film. They have ranged from OK to good, but nobody has claimed it as a great film yet. We'll see. Great cast.

The cast is first class, definitely. Haven't read the book yet...But since its been classified a bore so I'm not gonna read it.

Yup i found the book boring too. I borrowed it about a year ago because I was so excited for this movie, and then i read it and i was severely disappointed...

But i still have hope for the movie...what with the cast and all :p

Regardless of whether it's good or great or terrible, I have to see it. Damn Donald Sutherland and his cast choices.

It's got a great cast, so hopefully the acting, at least, will be satisfactory

the cast is definately impressive, but what the hell is Jack White doing in here?

I really don't know what to make of this just yet. It still looks good and I'm still thinking it will be nominated for an Oscar... but will people buy Nicole's accent? Actually, I think it's Renee who will steal the show.

It's from the director of The English Patient. That's enough to make me not want to see it. But it does have a decent cast. Eh, who knows...

Ms Portman has a small role so I might give it a watch...or might not.

I'll see it because of all the cast and the director, but i don't have high hopes on it. I was already disappointed by The Human Stain, and this one looks like it's going to be in that line. :(

I just saw the trailer and I actually think it looks really good. The cast seems to be in top form and the cinematography looks really impressive. I hope it's as good as it looks. Can't wait to see it.

God, I hope not. The Human Stain was the better book of the two, but I think Cold Mountain will be the better movie.

Besides, The English Patient was kind of tough read as well and turned out a great movie (imo at least).

Btw, I think this second trailer looks really great, only Renee's "it's raining" speach looks stupid, but I've heard that was like her worst scene in the whole movie anyway, so I'm not too worried.

If that's true, why would they put in it the trailer? I also found it very weak and wondered why it was in there.

Because that's her "big scene". And anyway I'm only saying what I read from someone who saw (and loved) the movie.

COLD MOUNTAIN has been rated R for violence and sexuality, but surprisingly Miramax is appealing to the MPAA for this. They must want a big hit, this is the only explanation for this film to be re-rated PG-13.

As far as I can tell the teaser was the same as the trailer.

nope, there are many slight differences...the beginning has different scenes worked in, and the trailer has a lot more tension in it. Also, the second half of the trailer starts to showcase several scenes not shown in the teaser.

I don't thinkt he first one was really a teaser though...they probably figured that it was received so horribly, they decided to tweak it a little and release a new one which is the "trailer".

The one other major difference is that the music in the second half of the trailer is much more epic than the first teaser made it, and it conveys more excitement as well...the first teaser's second half aren't scored with very exciting music so it was quite a bore.

And I still find Zellweger's speech akward (i've seen the trailer so many times, and I still don't get what that sentence means :p, and i've also read the book and its not in there either so...)

But i do like the trailer more than the teaser - a lot. And i'm still hopeful. this is in my opinion one of the bests casts ever assembled, and it would be a shame if the movie turned out to be trash. Hopefully Minghella was able to take all the weak elements (and there ar ea lot) from the book and get rid of them.

This looks decent and I'll see it if only for the great cast that has been assembled. I am wary though that Minghella is directing it since The English Patient was the most boring film that I have ever seen.

I've never read the book, and only seen brief TV spots, but this doesn't appeal to me much at all (and I'm a freakin' History major!)

I can't stand syrupy made-for-OScars movies like this. I've heard so much for months about how this is expected to be a sure-fire contender for the Best Picture Oscar...and yet, the reviews at Rotten Tomatoes aren't very kind. Some are good, but the ones that pan it pan it with impunity.
