My professor should've renamed the class's title from "Screenwriting Fundamentals" to "Screenwriting According to Robert McKee."

I swear, I can't stand Robert McKee any more. A lot of things he says I just find really hard to swallow. Especially since McKee hasn't really done anything successful...he's known as a world famous film expert, because he watches movies and can analyze them to death and comes up with BS terms to explain all this crap? And says we have to follow HIS instructions in order to write a good screenplay?

My teacher is teaching the class right out of McKee's book "Story." My teacher might as well not be teaching the class...I mean sure, he's thrown some stuff in here and there and has talked about his screenplays and things he's directed but STILL...I'd rather have the entire course be taught by him and his experiences only. McKee just comes off as a pompous asshole who's making screenwriting a chore for me.

And if there are people here who like Robert McKee, and for some reason think he's a genious...I don't know how you can.

Have you considered politely asking, in class, why the instructor decided to go with this particular book?

Maybe there will be insight. Maybe it will spark a discussion.

This fits better to the screenwriting forum.
