remember awhile ago when i claimed that Se7en had grown on me and i planned on buying it when i got the money? well, for the first time in my life my mom is not letting me get a movie.she normally doesn't care what flicks i buy but she said as soon as i grabbed it off the shelf in best buy: "i don't want that movie in my house".she told me she read about it awhile back and just simply isn't going to allow it.it freakin sucks too because i seriously was planning on buying it soon.i guess i can't blame her for not wanting me to buy it but i didn't expect her to completely disallow the purchase of it.i don't understand people sometimes.

I don't get it man, alot of people say that Se7en is very discusting and 'bad', i bought it and showed it to both my parents and they loved it (my dad is a lutheren pastor and he still loved it). The only real problom my parents ever had with me watching a movie a movie is a clockwork orange, which i can understand, though i own it now.

I hate when i see parents not allowing their kids to see movies. I mean damn how old are you bluntman anyway?
Thank God my parents have no problem what so ever with any kind of movie i bring in (except of course if its porn ... but i wouldnt buy porn so there goes that)

Parent cencership is worse than that of the MPAA.
Tell her it could seriously cause problems in the future when your older. You'll be more likly to rebel aginst them and everyone eles resulting in drug use and jail time; only to end up alone and in poverty.
She'll let you get it then.

i'm 15,you "technically" are supposed to be 18 to see a rated r movie.my parents had never cared about that until now with my interest in Se7en.i think my mom knows very little about most of the rated r movies i own and therefore did not have any say in whether or not i bought them,i think she just happened to find out alot about Se7en by fluke through all of the hype surrounding it in 1995 and 96.probably read about it in some magazine or the newspaper even.

that's a good idea, maybe i will propose that to her.the only thing is,she knows i'm not intelligent enough to come up with something like that.she'll probably get suspicious.

Actually, you only have to be 17 to see a R rated movie. You have to be 18, however, to see a NC17 movie.

I live in Canada so most of the stuff that is rated R in the U.S. is rated AA or 14A here, which is good since I'm 14 http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Maybe u should let her watch it or somethin...like rent it...it certainly wasn't as bad (as in sick and gruesome) as I had heard, and my parents really enjoyed it. Most of the stuff I heard about it was that it was really really really gruesome, and extremely sick...but it was nowhere near the extent of what I thought it'd be. (even tho there were a fair amount of sick scenes in it)

Parent censorship is horrible. I rented A Clockwork Orange a while back and my dad tried to convince me not to rent it. However, I did rent it that night and I watched it that night. There are some movies that your parents will down-right NOT let you see. ACO was disturbing but that's ok and I completely understand them not wanting me to see it. I'm cool with that. But Se7en, despite it being brutal and bloody, is a movie that lots of people can handle. ACO, most people I would assume would be very disturbed by it. Se7en on the other hand can be handled. I could handle it easily. If you're maybe 10 or something, then your parents may have a point if they tell you not to see it. I am assuming you're older than 10 though.
So dude, here's my point: Don't listen to them completely. Show that you understand that they're a bit "concerned", but have them watch it. It's a movie that YOU like. It doesn't matter what they say. My parents weren't too happy with Taxi Driver for God's sakes. Sit them down, cook some popcorn, and have them watch it. Whether they like it or not, tell them that you like it and that's all that matters.

If I were you, I would not show Se7en to my parents. If they hate it, if they get scared, if they can't sleep, and if they have nightmares...You have no chance in hell of getting the DVD.
My advice: Buy it behind their backs. If you don't want to do this, go ahead, have your parents watch Se7en. But just pray that they like it.

The situation is not a good one, but its definitely amusing/ironic/funny/strange that your making a post complaining you can't buy a movie that just a couple months ago you hated with a passion, thought was absolutely repulsive, and cursed at/attacked people for questioning your opinion on it.

you should try and point out the educational benefits of getting the se7en dvd.
sure the film is gruesome, but 3 of the commentary tracks feature a film studies professor, talking in detail about different aspects of the film.
i only passed my film studies class by listening to those commentaries the night before the exam.

Ah to be young again.
Hey until you are on your own and paying your way your parents are the shit and they have the right to do what they did.
I will not get into the whole age issue, but just remember this, in 10 years when you are out on your own you may be regreting that you did not savour the days of your youth a bit more.
As they say, youth is wasted on the young!
Chill it is only a movie.

So...she's just read about the movie and not actually seen it for herself, well that's pretty harsh of her not to let you get it then.
How did you see it in the first place?
And yeah, screw her! Sneak it behind her back!

I was 14 when I bought Se7en on VHS and my mother didn't care at all. She never cared about the movies I bought or anything else. She let me do what I wanted as long as I didn't bad stuff. Man, you gotta explain something to your mother. You 15 and you're old enough to decide for yourself.

You wanna show her a sick movie, just pop in Freddy Got Fingered. I watched it with my parents and they said it was sick and disgusting. Thankfully, they don't really care about what I watch, except for porn and The Exorcist (although I did see that at my friends house).

true story: i actually saw this movie when i was in 3rd grade and it scared the living crap outta me!!! i saw it with my mom, and best friend. my mom obviously had no idea what this movie was about and me and my friend just liked the look of the VHS box. what made it even more scary is we were in a camper in the middle of the woods all alone. good times good times

Okay, here's what you tell her:
"Mom, listen, this is just a movie. I am fully aware of the fact it is NOT real, and im old enough to see the difference between reality and films. what exactly did you read about it anyway? you do know that people sometimes want to make a movie look bad just because they didn't like it. there's nothing wrong with this movie, I know tons of people who've seen it and they say it's great and not half as horrible as you might think. Besides, i'm a good kid, I stay out of trouble, I don't smoke and I don't do drugs. the least you can do is let me watch the movies I would like to, and let me be the judge of how good or bad they are by myself. Be fair."
Yeah, okay, you're good.

It took me a couple months to do but here's what I did to get J&SBSB. " Mom just listin, J&SBSB is just a movie, I mean I hear thows words every day, i'm not going to use them and i'm not going to do the things they do in the movie, so please your the best mom in the world and its just a movie that I want to enjoy". And she said ok I guess you can get it and 30 mins later I had it in my hands.
