Hey guys,

Just watched FOTR on DVD for the first time a week or so ago and I noticed some things that had been changed, or at least to me appeared to be changed so I wanted to see if anyone who actually owns the DVD can go verify for me.

I noticed that the car had been removed from the shire scene.

Also it appears that they removed PJ's burp from his cameo when they Hobbits are walking thru Bree. This really hit me as strange as I was waiting to hear the burp and did not.

So could someone check this out.

And I also noticed that in the first Nazgul scene when they hid under the log that the whole tree is no longer visible, thus getting rid of the problem of the Nazgul suddenly appearing from behind the tree when you can see both sides of the tree.

I had it on widescreen so it was not a product of Pan and Scan but I am not sure if I had it on real widescreeen or Amorphous so someone let me know.

I find it hard to believe they would change the movie...are you sure they took the burping scene out?

First of all, I really don't think there ever was a car in that shot. I saw it twice theatrically after hearing about this rumor, the second time even knowing exactly where to look, and saw nothing that shouldn't have been there. Not to start a fight with Common Sense Man (who has an excellent gallery of LOTR images, by the way!), but even after looking at his frame grabs I still can't see anything of the sort. If it was there at all, it's probably not that they changed the DVD so much as it's so small it doesn't show up on a television.

I have the DVD, and heard the burp. I'm not sure about the tree but I didn't notice anything different there. I doubt they'd spend time altering stuff for this first release -- I'd be much more inclined to believe stuff had been altered for the special edition.

I can confirm that the burp is there.

I too am a little skeptical about there ever being a car. There is a flash of light that "could" be from a car if you want to think it is, but I never saw any sign of a car on the big screen or on the DVD.

The entire tree is visible on the DVD, and when I looked at the scene just now, I did notice that the Black Rider seems to come out from behind the tree on the left side of it, but you never see him to the right of it. The tree is VERY close to the edge of the frame, so if you can't see the whole tree, I suspect that your TV has way too much overscan.

Well, if it count for anything, I can confirm that a car WAS indeed, in this scene. And proof to the fact that there was - they removed it.

The tree scene has also been changed.

As for the burp - I heard it, but I also thought that part was a little shorter. Maybe I need to watch it again.

Thanks for the input guys and don't worry about pissing my off I have a thick skin.

But I have to agree with DF here the car was there, I had the DVD quality rip only a month after the theater release and I watched that scene multiple times and yes it is very hard to see but once you have seen it, it sticks out like a sore thumb, and I did not see it in the new DVD release, and I don't see why it would have been any trouble for them to take it out.

As far as the burp goes my parents where talking but I was looking right at the screen when he burped and heard nothing, but I do not have a great audio set up just a standard TV.

As for the tree thing, I do have a 32 inch TV but if I was not on traditional widescreen it may have still cropped the image.

I am sure I will rent it again before the Special Edition release comes out then maybe I will play with my widescreen vz anamorphic settings and see if there is a difference.
