Does anybody have this dvd??? I'm thinking of picking it up. I know that there's a lot of extra footage but is any of it relevent to the story?

I've got the original and I'm now severly pissed off that a DC is being released. That's absolutely wank.

The Director's cut was originally released by Trimark entertainment. The non-director's cut is the one that was released by Warner Bros in the Oliver Stone box set. There isn't anything really different about the movie though, although they both include commentary by Oliver Stone and I believe the Warner version even has deleted scenes. The Warner dvd does have improved picture quality over the Trimark version and a better soundtrack.

Bob, the DC is the uncut version of the film (obviously) It has been out for some time in the states and restores such moments as the view of a scene in the prison through a hole in Robert Downey Jr's hand and Tommy Lee Jones decapitated head. Around 3 minutes of footage were cut for the rated version (which is what we have in the UK)

To my knowledge the BBFC have never even viewed this version, much less passed it so I doubt the dc will see the light of day here for some time.

In my opinion the dc is the only version of the film worth seeing, as is so often the case. The trimark dvd is excellent, I've not seen the warner as a comparison but the quality is fine on my disc. Worth the investment

There is a lesson for me here: Check BBFC's database more often. I stand by what I said though Bob, if you like the film the only version worth having is the directors cut.

Also, for fans of the movie, producer Jane Hamsher has written an excellent book about its making called Killer Instinct, worth picking up.

I would have bought the DC, but it's an older DVD, so the video quality won't be as good. I contented myself with the R-rated reissue, it looks wonderful.

I'll be purchasing the Director's Cut for sure! It may have added extras too...who knows.

It should have been a Quentin Tarantino original screenplay cut!

But don't get me fucking started...
