Dungeon Siege Game Goes Hollywood Source: Gas Powered Games Sunday, November 9, 2003

Vierte Boll Kino Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co. KG (Boll KG) and Gas Powered Games have joined forces to bring the popular action/fantasy video game Dungeon Siege to the silver screen. Boll KG, the production company responsible for several film adaptations of video games including BloodRayne, Alone in the Dark and House of the Dead, recently purchased the theatrical and merchandise rights for Dungeon Siege.

Executive producer and director Dr. Uwe Boll, expects to begin filming Dungeon Siege in late 2004, and estimates a budget in the $50 million range. Interactive Film Sales International will handle the foreign rights sales for the production.

"Dungeon Siege transcends the video game genre and appeals to mainstream entertainment audiences," said Boll. "Based on the success of 'House of the Dead', I believe 'Dungeon Siege' contains major crossover potential because of its unique blend of action and fantasy, on the order of Lord of the Rings."

Originally released in the United States on April 5, 2002, Dungeon Siege is an action/fantasy role-playing game (RPG) designed by Chris Taylor, president and creative director of Gas Powered Games. Published by Microsoft Game Studios, Dungeon Siege features a fantasy world where the inhabitants must battle evil forces attempting to take over their kingdom.

"This is a very exciting project for us", said Taylor, "and we are very enthusiastic about exploring how film and games can come together."

Never played the game, so I can't tell how it could be done on the big screen. But if this is given the go-ahead, then it's just one more flick to add to my own personal Boll-Watch (although I'm more confident about ALONE IN THE DARK than HOUSE OF THE DEAD). C'mon, Uwe, an original, non video-game script couldn't hurt.

Just noticed this sentence:

"...several film adaptations of video games including BloodRayne..."

They made one already? Or is it on the schedule?

Haven't played the game, so I don't really have any expectations for it. And since when is Bloodrayne getting an adaptation? Talk about jumping on the bandwagon created by ol' Paulie.

Well, it looks like I'm going to have to get cracking on writing and selling the script for Perfect Dark before he infects that one too. It's a race against time.

Will Syxxpac beat Boll to the punch, or will our valiant hero's dream movie be reduced to cheap popcorn, B-movie thrills (or lack of thrills)?

:p

I propose a new mantra for the schmoes:

"Uwe Boll must die!"

This untalented prick is getting every single interesting fantastic film to make it shit. We have to end with him NOW! DIE BOLL DIE!

Seems to me like there are a lot better games out there to make a movie of. But I suppose I can settle for a dungeon siege movie.
