Which is your favorite Bond film? And which is your least favorite?

I know most will pick Goldfinger, but my favorite from the series is the second installment, From Russia With Love.

As for the worst, I'll go with Tomorrow Never Dies... which I thought was very dull.

Woohoo! First thread in the Bond forum

Best- From Russia with love. still the very essence of Bond.

Worst- A View to a Kill.

i remember george lazenby hooligan and happen to think he did a competent job in OHMSS. he was no sean connery, but to be honest, he did do a good job.

It's interesting, the opinion on Walken in that movie is so divided. I happen to think he made the movie great, while others think he was a complete embarrassment.

I thought his character was very threatening, original and interesting. One of the better Bond villains, IMO.

C'mon people, ZORIN was a badass!!!! He was killing his own cronies for Christ's sake!!

Yeesh, so much hate for "Die Another Day". I enjoyed it personally, and find it much closer in spirit to the old Bonds than the generic "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "The World is Not Enough" - despite the huge "cheese factor".

Best Bond: Goldfinger
Worst Bond: Moonraker or The World is Not Enough

And by "worst" I mean "least favorite", because I haven't outright hated any Bond film.

Well, I didn't think he sucked, but for how the performance came off, Walken should have been a lot better than he was (though, as you say, it was fun when he turned psycho in the caves at the end). Still, I haven't forgotten his and Grace Jones's dialogue exchange:

"What a view..."
"...To a kill!"

I've always held up On Her Majesty's Secret Service as the best... sure, it attempts a establish some unforseen pathos (which became a series of lazy winks and references in the later films)... and maybe faulters here and there in that respect. As well as this Bond talking into the camera was never a good idea. However, sometimes flaws can work in favour of a film, and I think OHMSS is a good example of this. It has a strong plot, for one still centering on world domination and each set piece is excellently realized. Lazenby, is surely, competent. I guess, this is the one where Bond isn't neccessarily the centrepiece. And it works because of that.

Octopussy, on the other hand, is a smelly wet rag.

Best : OHMSS. The only Bond that works as a stand alone film.

Worst : It's a toss up between Moonraker & Die Another Day. Moonraker is arguably the worse film but Die Another Day sets a depressing precedent for future entries in the series.

Barbara Broccolli really doesn't have a clue so we can only expect more of the same junk to be served up in future.

OHMSS is the most bipolar Bond movie. The first chunk is god awful boring. The plot makes no sense. But the fanale is great. And it has what I think is the best scene of any Bond movie: At the wedding when Moneypenny is crying, Bond throws his hat and she catches it. Fucking briliant. Best: Goldfinger; it has everything a Bond flick should have: the lead with charisma, charm, but still shows signs of emotion, arrogance, and of course can pull off the action superbly; it's got the great car, and the hot women. Plus, the villain is probably the most unique in the entire Bond franchise - he's not trying to take over the world or anything close to that; he just wants to blow up a bank. (Casino Royale is a close second.)

Worst: Die Another Day; everytime I watch this movie, I like it less. It's cheesy, over the top, and has very little believability - a lot like the last couple of Brosnan's flicks.

Here's my Bond movie rankings, from strongest to weakest:

1. "From Russia, with Love"
2. "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"
3. "Goldfinger"
4. "Doctor No"
5. "The Spy Who Loved Me"
6. "Moonraker" (I know I'm a vast minority there)
7. "Thunderball"
8. "GoldenEye"
9. "You Only Live Twice"
10. "For Your Eyes Only"
11. "Licence to Kill"
12. "Diamonds Are Forever"
13. "Die Another Day"
14. "Tomorrow Never Dies"
15. "The World Is Not Enough"
16. "The Living Daylights"
17. "Octopussy"
18. "Live and Let Die"
19. "The Man with the Golden Gun"
20. "A View to a Kill"

I'm not ranking "Casino Royale" with the others, since it basically starts the series over from scratch (more like Bond 2.1 than Bond 21). But if I did, I'd probably put it at about #4 or 5.

Best :

Roger Moore - Moonraker ( can never get enough of this film , from the visual effects , to the villians , to the action , to the music , to the locations , it's the ultimate bond for me )

Sean Connery - You only Live Twice ( love the setting and the action scenes , the story and music was great also )

Worst :

License to Kill - Oh god , Bond died for me when Dalton took over . Was this the first film with him in it , i don't know , but it's dreadful and so was he as Bond .

Any of Brosnan's - i gave Brosnan a chance , but the series never recovered after Dalton. When Denise Richards is one of the Bond girls , you know they have hit rock bottom .

Guilty Pleasure - Casino Royale with David Niven . It wasn't an official " Bond " film , but the lead character was called James Bond and it was based in that world , although that world was a goofy sendup of Bond and spy movies in general . Orson Welles and Woody Allen as bad guys , oh god , this thing is funny . Hot chicks wearing psychedelic spandex outfits from the 60s , can't go wrong wit this one .

Me, too. It's probably my second favorite behind "From Russia with Love." It has one of the most human storylines. But it seems people don't like it purely because of George Lazenby. Personally, I didn't think he was that bad; a diamond in the rough, sure, but he definitely would've improved had he stayed on.

From someone who read all of the Bond books, I would have to pick Casino Royale as my favorite movie. I grew up watching the older Bond flicks and love most of them but this is the first time I think I saw Ian Fleming's original vision truly grace the screen. Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldeneye are three of my favorites outside of CR. Craig is a damn fine Bond and measures up to Connery with ease.

Worst is easily Die Another Day. I despised a few of the almost unbearably hammy Moore films but at least they were laughably bad. Die Another Day was just effing dismal. Even worse was that I really could believe Brosnan as Bond and I cannot forgive the filmmakers for wasting such talent.

Even if you hate Moonraker , you have to admit , it was probably the most ambitious .

I know some people love the new James Bond , and i'll admit he's effective , but for me it comes down to , do you want the already established , cultured , suave , and experienced Bond who has seen it all and takes things in stride or do you want the hotheaded , impulsive , still learning on the job , excitable version .

I love Moon because for me it was the high point of the character , he was in command , even if he was somewhat winking a bit and the comedic impulses are admittedly silly , but for me this was the best representation , it's the ultimate bond film and it featured Moore's best performance as Bond . It's thrilling , with probably one of the best villains in any Bond film . Come on , this is a guy who wanted to wipe out the entire population of the earth and then repopulate it , who the heck can compete with that , that's beyond sinister , in comparison , the villain in Casino Royale looks like a law abiding churchgoer . Yes , it's fantastical , but it wears it's ambitions on it's sleeve proudly . Honestly , i can't even remember what the bad guy in Casino wanted , to steal some money or something , whoah there big fella . That's how uninterested i was .

This new version is allright as a flashback , a side story as to how he became who he is, and how he become feared in the underworld , but , sorry , even if people are saying it's closer to the books , it doesn't do anything for me except make me long for my favorites .

I cant really stick the films into an order or pick 1 worst and 1 best out of them all because i kinda like them or dislike them all in different ways. All of the Bond movies obviously have strengths and flaws so im just gonna share some of my views about my personal favorites.

Favorites:

Goldfinger - This was the first ever Bond film i saw and it just had it all, cool villains, hot chicks ( back in the day atleast ) and the gadgets. I fell in love instantly when i saw the film, i think i was at the age of 5 or something.

Thunderball - Wasnt a huge fan of Thunderball originally, it was later on as i got older when i saw some of the strengths of the film like how they sort of get a lot out of the locations so in my books the locations alone make it worth watching and ofcourse it has Bond stuff in it like the fairly epic underwater end battle that had to be a pain in the ass to shoot.

You Only Live Twice - Now this is more like it, im a sucker for Japanese locations in western cinema because somehow they just manage to portray Japan nicely as this somewhat mystical, totally different place. The plot with the space stuff was pretty over the top but Donald Pleasance as Blofeld is just all kinds of awesome and lets not forget Little Nellie ofcourse :D

The Man With the Golden Gun - Starting to sound like a broken record here but again its the locations that really serve the movie fine, the hidden "lair" of Scaramanga is so cool and Chistopher Lee is awesome, Maud Adams and Britt Ekland are looking fit and a trusty homicidal midget sidekick for the bad guy is the icing on the cake.

License to Kill - A slightly more serious attempt at a Bond movie and i thought it worked back in the day. Robert Davi is definately the right man in the right place as he seems like a truly evil mofo and Benicio Del Toro is just a mean bastard.

Goldeneye - Is it possible to not like Goldeneye ? After some quiet time for the franchise, Bond returns with a bang! Fancy special effects, astronomical production values, great Bond hotties, the new M is a...woman ? wtf!... I think Judi Dench does the role of M great but i still think it should have been a man. The movie has some odd stuff in it too like the weird music by Eric Serra ( someone go steal this mans instruments now and toss them into the sea! ) and Famke Janssens character is still a bit strange and over the top even for a Bond movie but in the end all the other stuff makes it worth watching. Sean Bean is great, Pierce is great, Robbie Coltrane is great and plowing through the streets of St. Petersburgh in a tank cant be bad either! :)

Casino Royale - A series reboot that was maybe long overdue and it was done great. The new Bond is a cold guy but most of all hes human and i thought the new film reminded me a lot of the more realistic approach to spy thrillers done in the Bourne movies wich was definately the right direction. The film was more of an action thriller than yet another action rollercoaster.

The Not-so-Favorites

The World is Not Enough - I dont quite know what it is with this one that i dont like although it has all the Bond stuff going on in it. Somehow i just found it to be insanely boring and the casting doesnt quite work either. Robert Carlyle was an interesting villain but he didnt get enough screen time imo or then the director couldnt get anything really out of him. Sophie Marceau was weak, i dont know what the hell Denise Richards was doing there, i thought it was cool they gave her chance and all but she was just meh in the end. The opening boat chase was cool as was the whole skiing scene but that was about it then. Definately my least favorite Bond film.

Guilty Pleasures

Die Another Day - A Korean main bad guy who turns himself into a rich british guy and moves into a palace made out of ice after fencing with Madonna. Nuff said :p

Moonraker - Richard Kiel returns as Jaws and finds love and a smashing laser battle in space at the end. That just has to be worth something :D

The worst Bond movie was Casino Royale with David Niven, it was horrible it was like a bad documentary comedy. But the best was Casino Royale with Daniel Craig. So Good!! Or perhaps the upcoming Bond film Quantum Of Solace. We will have to see.

Best - Casino Royale. It's the best Bond on pretty much every level: Best directing, acting, writing, etc. Easily the most artistically accomplished entry in the series, and the only one to have emotional weight to it. Craig was also the best Bond ever. Along with having the best executed action sequences in the series, I also find Casino Royale to be the funniest of them all: It has a wonderful, very british, dry and laconic wit to it.

Worst: On Her Majesty's Secret Service. A disaster on pretty much every level. Lazenby is horrible as Bond: He talks like a girl, fights like girl and runs like a girl. Seriously boring story. Awful greenscreen action sequences. The only good part of the movie is the last 30 seconds.

BTW, I've seen all the movies except for Niven version, and I've read all of Fleming's original novels. Casino Royale is the closest one to the spirit of the books as well.

Favourite: I'm a big 007 fan, I pretty much love them all but I particularly love any of the six that Sean Connery starred in. If I had to pick a favorite it would have to be Goldfinger.

2nd Favourite & the biggest surprise package: For me would have to be Casino Royale (2006), my first viewing of this Film was on opening day at the cinemas. I went in cold not reading any critics reviews and following closely after there had been a lot of talk that Daniel Craig would make for a shit Bond. I ended up coming out of the theater with a grin ear to ear blown away at the time by the Film and Daniel's performance. Also one of my favourite Blu-ray's.

Worst: Quantum of Solace, It didn't feel like I was watching a Bond Film, Roger Moore had said something similar when he came out of one of the premiers. Found the overall story to be muddled and weak, I didn't think I would ever find myself saying this but to much action. For a Bond Film anyway and the fight sequences poorly shot and edited shaky cam style. The Bond spirit had gone A-Wall unfortunately I'm hoping that it will return for the next Film.
