I hate when they make sequels just because the first movie was a hit. Yeah, sometimes a second part is good, but when they make a part 3,4, 5 and so on....And then to top it off, it usually isn't the same actors! Disney seems to be out of good ideas and uses this method for all the cartoons. A sequel to Cinderella, come on!!!!! Other examples: Home Alone and Home Alone 2 where good, but the following movies where just dumb.
National Lampoons vacation is another example, the kids we're diffrent actors on all the sequels.

And in the video store where I work... I found "Bethoven the 4th".
Did the first movie warrent three sequels?

Nothing wrong w/ a good sequel. And yes when its goin over to pts 4 and so forth. It is pushing it. ;) What I kinda hate is those sneaky STV sequels. Wassup w/ that?!?!?!
It's almost as if these people aren't artists at all, they're only in it for the money!! ;)

Now I would hate to hear that the Scary Movie movies, is going to go past a third movie. I dont really want to support Scary Movie 3 by seeing it at a theatre, which might encourage more of those movies by its big box-office.
But what if, like many of those horror movies, they just keep on going on with them! Make on making more Scary Movie's!
I hope not!

Good thing I spotted this topic I was about to post my own. And now, a sequel horror story:
Once Upon A Time, I rented Finding Nemo. But I saw a trailer that shocked me so bad I couldn't concentrate on the film.
The Lion King 1 1/2!!!!!!!!!!!!
I SWEAR I am not making this up! Check imdb if you don't believe me! ARRRRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
From What I gather it's a bit like (I KNOW these names are spelled wrong) Rozencratz and Guildersteren Are Dead.
Basicly it's the first movie told from the point of view of Timon and Pumbaa. I guess it explains what they were up to befre they met Simba. ARRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
Walt must be reeling in his grave. His number one rule was NO SEQUELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me started on Home Alone 4. Home Alone 3 was ok, but come on....

I rarely watch sequels, if a film is a complete story and told well, I don't want that tampered with. On the other hand, I like sequels if the movie is part of a trilogy (Star Wars, LOTR). or if the first movie could be an episode with interesting characters (like Ghostbusters)- this is rare. I loved Terms of Endearment and I would never watch the sequel in which it sounds like they butchered the originals' characterzations.
And in sequels, Hollywood always has to modernize everything- a once happy couple will probably be divorced in the sequel. How about in Ghostbusters where Murray and Weaver are happy at the end but in part 2, they have broken up and she even has a baby by some other guy. I wanted to think of them as staying together after the first one. Why'd they have to mess with that? Frustrating.

True Story: When they ran that Home Alone 4 pic in an ad for the movie over here in the USA (It was a made for TV flick) in a magazine I got so mad at it, I punched the ad until it was in shreds. I may also have bit it. And cursed at it. But I'm not lying.

Corpse, you must be thinking of the WITCHCRAFT series, which has made it to part 11, I think.
WITCHBOARD only had one sequel that I'm aware of. There may have been a WITCHBOARD III, but I don't think so.

Yeah but if shitty sequels didn't exist we never would have got Leprechaun in Space or Leprechaun in the Hood. You're all missing the big picture here.
P.S. LMAO @ "Who the fuck is this irksome little twat?" - I saw a few copies of this DVD at work, I had no idea they'd even made it. So far we've shifted zero units.

Sweet!!! Leprechaun is a true badass and I think more sequels is a great idea. The best bit in any Lep movie is in the first one near the end when he gets knocked to the floor by Jenifer Aniston and co. and he has a tiny little evil erection.

It's not getting any better, y'alls. Looking through IMDb's scheduled 2004 releases, I come up with the following sequels/remakes:
Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London
Alien Vs. Predator
The Amityville Horror
Barbershop 2
Be Cool (Get Shorty 2)
Before Sunrise 2
Blade: Trinity
The Bourne Supremacy
Cats & Dogs 2: Tinkles' Revenge
The Chronicles of Riddick (Pitch Black 2)
The Crow: Wicked Prayer
Dawn of the Dead
Deuce Bigalow: Electric Gigolo
Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights
Dracula III: Legacy
Exorcist: The Beginning
Fletch Won
The Fly
Free Enterprise 2
Halloween 9
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Highlander: The Source
The Honeymooners
Jumanji 2
Kill Bill: Vol. 2
Kung Pow 2: Tongue of Fury
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Manchurian Candidate
Meet the Fockers
Mortal Kombat: Domination
Ocean's Twelve
The Princess Diaries 2
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Return to Sleepaway Camp
The Ring 2
Scary Movie 4
Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed
Shall We Dance?
Shrek 2
Soccer Dog: European Cup
Spider-Man II
Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation
Starsky & Hutch
The Stepford Wives
The Thunderbirds
Under Siege 3
The Whole Ten Yards
Now, a few of these look worthwhile (I'm looking forward to Before Sunrise 2, but enough already. Another Fly? Good Lord, Kung Pow 2? Is Hollywood completely out of ideas?

Cruel Intentions was a good movie, but what was up with a CRUEL INTENTIONS 2 ?????!!!!! It was same as the first one except with more or less unknown actors. Absolutely unnecessary sequel in my opinion.

Yea, but that shower seen wasnt bad at all :D.
The Amityville horror remake? I'll havya check out the original.
Sequals/preguels like Spiderman, Blade, Exorcist and Riddick should be good, but WTF is up with a Jumanji 2? No one wants it! just release the damn fukin dvd again! And, ive heard that the new Crow movie will actually be the first good crow sequal. And i dont really care if horror movie's make too many sequals, as we all know, the evil always comes back. lol.

Some of those look badass! Under Siege 3???? Oh shit, this rules. Hopefully my friend Steven will be the cook again and throw knives. The Fly remake is a stupid idea unless Jeff Goldblum is in it again. No point in Amityville Horror either, unless Jeff Goldbum is in it. I am looking forward to Blade 3, Scooby 2 (get it? even though it's not really a pun), and Return to Sleepaway Camp. They should make a new Critters film.

Actually, since they've made so many of them, they have stopped numbering them. Instead of like Land Before Time MLXV or something, they'd call it The Land Before Time: Journey to the Big Rock or crap like that.

I tend to agree with you. I hate it when it's an exact remake of the original - put something new in for God sakes. Didn't see sequels for Charlie's Angels, Legally Blonde, etc. etc.
But I am a fan of the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon movies. So maybe it's the genre.
I am a fan of sequels and trilogies that are part of a bigger story: Matrix, LOTR, Star Wars, Godfather, X-Men, etc.

I don't have a problem with sequels as long as they can be done good and not STV (generally). I love all but two Friday the 13th's and all but one Nightmare on Elm Street and I hope they keep bringing out the sequels, personally.
However, with movies like HOME ALONE 4 (why was there even a third?), I get irritated. The first two were good. John Hughes + Culkin=fun. Anyone else equals bull plop. Make sequels but make GOOD ones for God's sake!
Solid Snake
01-17-2004, 10:42 AM
The only sequels that are good are ones that had to be made because the story couldnt fit into one film (lotr, matrix, star wars).
Sequels that are made just because the first made alot of money are crap 98% of the time. The only sequel of this kind that i can think of that was actually really good and better than the original is Terminator 2.
thisismyboomstick
01-23-2004, 11:57 AM
Yeah, I agree that sometimes sequels are made just to make them and to hopfully cash in on the success of the first one.
Home Alone should have stopped aftet the second one, but people just don't know when to kill the cow.
I remember seeing LAND BEFORE TIME when I was a little kid. I'm 23 now and there's like 12 of them.
I guess they're coming out with a 4th PROPHECY film. 1. It doesn't have Christopher Walken in it 2 On the box for t he 3rd one it says the final chapter. Then again it also says the movie is THE MATRIX meets END OF DAYS. Whatever.
Sure there are some sequels I would love to see, but the studios need to get a friggen clue.
