Yeah believe it or not Richard Donner and the big man in Hollywood, Spielberg himself are pushing Warner Bros. to actually make the sequel to the 1985 hit about a bunch of Hardy Boy kids stumbling upon a pirate treasure.
Heres the scoop from Darkhorizons people!
"MTV News reports that both director Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg have purchased a sequel script and are pushing to get it made. According to Donner himself, whose currently doing the "Timeline" promotional rounds, its set to go if the studio gives the greenlight - "We're trying desperately. We're just trying to get Warner Bros., who owns it, to say yes. The new group is called the Groonies, because they happen to live in a town where [Data], the Chinese kid, lives ... and he's got an electronics repair shop and all the kids hang out at his shop. He has this Chinese accent and he calls the Goonies the Groonies, and so the new kids call themselves the Groonies, until they get into a situation where the old Goonies have to save the new Groonies, or vice versa". Until it gets underway, Donner will continue to develop the script and confirmed both Sean Astin and Jeff Cohen's characters will return."
Warner bros would be fucking idiots if they didnt make this flick. This DVD sells like crazy and the fans of this film are out there (me included!) so heres to hoping that Richard Donner doesnt screw this up.
I hope they can get that same magic back on the screen. At least Sean Astins back. Im guessing they will bring the rest of the cast back, they all seemed preatty positive about it on the DVD commentary.

This would be really cool!
And Donner and Spielberg back behind it and the cast??!! That is how you make a sequel!
And I have faith in Donner, the newest TV spots for Timeline are way better, and I saw some clips on this random french website, and they looked solid.

So it's ON again? Well there is a pic of the Goonies cast TODAY. Well, not a recent one but a pic of them w/ the director. I wonder if Joe Pantoliano and Robert Davi will be re-prising their roles? Too bad the actress who played the mother passed on. :(

"HEEEY YOOUU GUUUYYSSS!!!!!"
Man, looking at that pic, Andy is still Hot, Chunk isnt even chunky anymore, and Bran just plain looks weird.
It'd be cool though, The Goonies is a freakin classic.

Where's Sloth in that pic? :(
I think this is a bad idea. It won't have the charm of the original. It can't. I say let it be. There's no need of a most likely crappy sequel.

Though I'm not exactly ejaculating over this, I'm a fan of The Goonies and this really would be neat to see.

When the hell did this happen? Sloth is like one of the coolest characters ever.
"Sloth love Chunk!"
Who's the guy who played Sloth? Was it Kevin Peter Hall?

That pic is from when they all got together for recording the DVD commentary wich was preatty cool to see.
The DVD has this cool feature where you can see the cast as they are giving the commetary wich was awesome. It was funny to see Corey Fieldman making an ass out of himself talking all the time!
Heres (http://www.erikandtami.com/opening.htm) a link for a script for Goonies 2, now I dont know if this is the one that Donner wants to get made, but it does have Data working on a toy company and Brand is getting married, so they all get together for the wedding. The first page of the script is preatty good, the characters feel and act like themselves. Check it out if you are interested.
Heres (http://www.thegoonies.com/NEWS.htm) a link to the MTV news page with the original story.
Oh and by the way Sloth was played by Jhon Matuszak sadly he died of heart failure on 06/17/89.

According to Coming Soon, Donner is also talking about doing a Lethal Weapon 5, to bring the movies to a better closure with RIggs and Murtaw. That would also be awesome.
Glad Timeline got DOnner back in the director's chair and thinking about some of these other projects.

I would watch Lethal Weapon 5. Entertaining No brainer.
The Goonies 2 ?
I'm just scared they are going make a complete b*lls up and ruin the orginal. Fingers crossed if Steve and Richard are both commited and everyone returns then it may work out !!!!
P.S.
The Truffle-Shuffle still cracks me up!

Even if they did make it and it turned out to be shit...how would this ruin the original? The original is a goddamned classic and will never be anything other than a goddamned classic whatever happens sequelwise. Me? I think they should go for it. Even if it turns out to be crap I think it's worth the risk just to get Corey Feldman into something that stands a chance of making some money.

I agree with you there Psychocandy even if they mess this one up (wich I hope they wont) well allways have the first goonie adventure to go back too.
Also Im sure one of Spielbergs main concerns will be to make sure that the magic seen on the first film returns...at least I hope he does.
Can anyone tell me how Timeline is doing in the box office, I dont know, to me it doesnt look like many people will go see that one.

YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Must control myself. Well The Goonies is a movie I have grown up with during my childhood. I have never gotten sick of it. I can watch it anytime and have a giant smile on the whole time. It is a classic and one of my faovurite movies of all time.
Some good and bad news on the sequel for you guys:
Good: Sloth will be back in one way or another(another actor playing him obviously)
Bad: Paul Walker might be involved

Even though my brain screams bad idea Im going to have to go along with this. I mean if they could make it as good as the original wouldnt that be awesome. To be honest to this day I really cant explain why I like the original. It just has the great innate quality that brings me joy every time I see it. Ive watched this movie over and over and it never gets old.
The only question is where would Cyndi Lauper fit in?
Well, I guess the ladies will now go see this movie because someguy said Paul Choker might be in it.

Just wanted to let you guys know that the project for Goonies II is now officially dead in the water....thanx in no small part Im guessing to the low box office numbers of Timeline.
Heres what Donner had to say about Goonies II:
"Afraid not, it didn't live up to the original"
Sad...Im going to go to a small, dank, dimly lit dungeon and watch old pirate movies while eating a Baby Ruth.

I am extremely pleased with the news of them NOT making a goonies sequel, so I am raising a glass full of kool aid to salute this.

Actually, as much of a fan as I am of Goonies, I have to admit that I was rooting against them making this... It just sounded like they were going to ruin the name to me, it's a classic as is. I would rather leave it that way than squeeze out some second rate sequal.
