I, personally, enjoyed mild-mannered Tobey Maguire as the Web-Slinger. But here are some other options that might not have been too bad.

Paul Walker ~ Good-looking guy who can probably play the geek, but still pull off the pimptacity that Spidey requires.

Ryan Phillippe ~ Can definitely pull off the geek...but I don't know about the physical aspects. You never know. Something just seems to fit, though.

There you have it. My picks, or the only ones I can think of now, rather. I'll be back with more. In the mean-time, let's hear some of yours...

Well, as hard as I think, I can't find anyone who'd sound better than Tobey. Maybe that Gyllenhall (sp?) kid...I don't know, he doesn't look like your Peter Parker type. Nah, I think Tobey rocks. :)

Paul Walker would be good...if he could act. ;)

Paul Walker accually sounds good. Even though i never had a problem with Tobey. He did good.

Now, Kirsten Dusnt, she shouln't have played Mary Jane. They should have left her hair Blonde, killed her during that bridge scene and called her Gwen Stacy. That was a very big event in establishing who Spidy is know.

Yeah but you know, it probably was only removed because of the target audience. If the main heroine dies in the first film, holy crap, kids will be screamin!

But yeah, it is correct. But in the long run it provides more problems then solutions. They wanted the true love stroy to begin right away. As much as it removes from the drama of their relationship, it just makes more sense.

Jake Gyllenhaal. Like Toby, only a better actor and much younger looking. Spiderman is not 30 years old. At least, not in my mind.

Paul Walker...HELL NO...he can't act worth shit!!! he over EMPHASIZES every other line.

Ryan would make a good spiderman...shit he would be good as any superhero...maybe they can cast him as gambit in X3.

Tobey's a little chubby for Parker
while watching the movie I though that James Franco (Harry Osborn) would've been good for Parker.

Hmmm... and.. talking about Dunst and Gwen Stacy.. .. is Gwen making at least a minor cameo appearance in the sequel ??

No she will not. The best you can hope for is Black Cat.

i like Tobey by the way.

Brilliant idea there Mattimeo, I cant remember but didnt Green Goblin pumpkin bomb the shit out of her?

As for Paul Walker, he would play a great Johnny Storm from Fantastic Four fame, maybe Venom?

No, he blasted where she was standing and she fell off. Peter had time to save her but for some reason he couldnt. Which is why it was so heartbreaking, because he took it personally and felt so guilty.

Paul Walker would be perfect as Spidey's clone (the scarlet Spider)....Ben something? I dunno its ben a while but he looks just like him.

(That whole scarlet spider-man thing sucked and shouldnt be put into a movie....)

I always thought that Jerry O'Connell would've been a good Peter Parker.

I was stoked when I heard Wes Bentley was a contender for the role. He seemed perfect.

Er, actually, Spidey sorta killed her himself. She was falling, he snagged her ankle with his web, the sudden stop broke her neck.

When i first heard that Kirsten Dunst was going to be in Spider Man, I DID thought that she will play Gwen Stacy.

I personally have never liked Tobey and I didn't like him at all as Peter/Spider-Man,he looked way to old and is acting wasen't good either.

Other Peter Parker/Spider-Man

Johnathan Jackson
Milo Ventimiglia

Tobey did a great job , but I think that a very young Christian Bale could have made a cool Peter Parker. (just imagine him with glasses on)

IMO maguire was perfect for spider man and i cant think of a better actor for the role

Peter Parker: Jon Lovitz

Just kidding. Personally Tobey was great as Spiderman, I couldn't really pick anyone else to replace him. Tho, Ryan Phillipe ain't a bad option. But Paul Walker as Peter Parker? No way. Sorry, with his recent performances, he can't act.

Jake Gyllenhaal or Nick Stahl would make a better Peter Parker

Paul Walker ? God forbid... Ryan Philippe can't do it either. Sam Raimi always looked for a good actor from the beginning, that's why Tobey had been chosen.

Having said that, Jason Patric would have been the perfect spiderman... But I'm OK with Tobey.

Am I the only one who thinks they look different?

Jake is by far better than Toby, but Toby actually did a good job as Spidey.

Back when the first Spider-man was just a rumor, a friend and I were talking about John Cusack playing the webslinger. I still think he would've made a kickass choice, if only he was 10-12 years younger when they finally made the flick.

Don't think it would matter , the films aren't that great anyway , so replacing TM would have a minimal effect .

I thought Tobey Maguire was a pretty good Spiderman, but I have to say that I think Jake Gyllenhaal would have done a much better job. Maguire can pull off the nerdy side of Peter Parker, but he struggles a bit with the ass-kicking that the character requires. I think Gyllenhaal would have been great, and the fact that he came so close...Ah well.

I agree.

A younger John Cusack would have been ideal. Wes Bentley would've been great as well. After playing the role of a social outsider in American Beauty, he seemed almost perfect for Parker.
