Im all for new people coming to our site. It helps spread the word out about the site. But lately, I cant help but notice a ton of infant schmoes around here, and pretty much all of them are quite disrespectful. I've noticed that most of their posts go something like this: "You people dont know what your talking about. Im right, your all dipshits, and need to get a life." Im growing quite tired of going into a topic and seeing a newbie spout off like they have been.

Anyway, I feel we should maybe stop allowing people to join, but just for a little while. Its just because obvious to me that they skip the rules and join, and maybe not allowing anyone to join for a bit would make people realize that 'hey, the rules to matter in this place".

Thats just my 2 cents.

I can't say I've noticed it as much as you, but I will say it's usually the schmoes who signed up in 2000 that notice about the "newbies" the most. Back when the board began, you could basically name all the regularly posting schmoes on two hands and one foot. Now, it's gaining popularity. When a board gains popularity, obviously a lot of people are going to want to join. Some will be cool, some won't.

Jo actually disables registrations every once in awhile, so he'll probably do it soon. Still, you can't combat problematic newbies. As with any well-established message board, they'll always be here. You have to take the bad with the good, but luckily, the bad tend to weed themselves out with ban-worthy posts. The good will stick around; the bad won't. And of course, if you notice any schmoes in particular being assholes, report their discourteous posts to a moderator. They'll be dealt with accordingly.

Yeah, I believe Jo disabled registrations for the summer months. I guess we do get problems with newbies every now and then. But hey, it's just like in the real world...there are cool people and there are assholes. Of course the ratio of infant schmoes misbehaving is going to be higher than that of the super schmoes, because chances are if you're already a super schmoe, you've been able to behave okay...then again, some people just get too angry and explode...

We were all newbies at one time. I have learned a few since joining. I have seen a few funky threads on the boards. Search Engine folks! Search Engine. :D

Lies!

Jon discourtieous asshole! Jon no get smashed by moderators!

I was a newbie once. Most register and post once or twice, if it all. The ones with least respect of the rules get banned in under a week. A select few of them, like me, become well-established members very quickly. Since June, the only really well-established newbies who came our way that I noticed were Lynn and my_name_is_neo.

Business as usual. Unposting schmoes, banned schmoes, and occasionally someone who will become well established.

You can pretty well tell when a new poster is in it for the long run, I think..

There might an increase in Schmoes because we're heading into the holidays when more people are off from school etc. It also happens when <singing a la Alice Cooper> school's out for summer! </singing>.

I'm truly crushed. *tear*

Then again I wouldn't want to be mentioned in the same vain as Lynn.

What can I say? Those long summer months of endless insomnia won me some recognition. That, and my love of C-walk's affections toward a certain pastry.

That being said, I was not only a newbie once (I still am, but too egotistical to admit it) but I registered just about the time that Jo blocked registration, meaning I registered around the end of May, but I didn't send an E-mail to Jo to activate my account until June. So, I almost didn't make it for the summertime.

I have no problems with the newbies, except that many of them spell incorrectly and even less insightfully than me (Somehow it is possible). Now I'm not saying every newbie does this, but I would appreciate maybe just a little bit more spellcheck and capitilization every now and then, before we move onto proper punctuation.

And further advice to those incoming newbies: Follow the rules and have some respect for your fellow posters, regardless of their post count or time spent here.

I love all you silly guys :)

Ok, you too.

I'll just say there haven't been a whole lot lately. Which is surprising. I'd expect more fresh faces in the summertime.

That doesn't change the fact that you forgot about me.

'Newbies' is such a harsh word. We've all been newbies before, in some place, some time. We were all shunded before when we ran down the hallways naked screaming 'Hit me baby one more time!' with all your fellow people laughing a you, and the principal kicking you out.....

Oh, what was I saying again?

It's spelled capitalization. :p :D

That's not true. When I signed up, no one was a newbie or a vet or anything. We were all "onlies".

Whether a newbie or an old-timer, disrespect is simply not tolerated on our board, so if you notice someone dissing another personally, please use the REPORT THIS POST TO THE MODERATOR function in the forum in question and we will "take care of business".

Thankfully, most people do read and understand our rules, so we don't have too many bannings, but we have our share and need your help in order to maintain the board's somewhat "clean" slate for years to come.

Like Jerry Maguire once said....HELP ME, HELP YOU!!! :)

"Since June" means after the month of June. You registered in June. But I did laugh at your response.

Should I consider myself a newbie? I first found out about joblo's in early 2000 and using my flatmates computer joined under the name of Lynchfreak. I would check the website daily and read other peoples posts daily. Because I was working 45+ hour weeks I didnt have much time to post.
When I moved into a house of my own my first purchase was a computer and I rejoined the board under the name I have now, mofopott.
I read the boards daily and enjoy seeing what my fellow scmoes have to say, although I only post occasionally. Does this make me a newbie or a long time supporter of the site who doesent post often?

I have quit my job now in preparation for major sugery, so I might be posting more often:D

Air Force One Security approches James Logan.

"I'm sorry, Sir? I have to search everyone before boarding the plane!" Exclaims the Officer.

"Oh, For what?" Asks James Logan.

"For the Larrie Jane." States the Officer.

"You mean the Marie Jane?" Laughs James Logan.

The Security Officer calls in on his radio.

"10-14, I need a five fingered Latex!" Shouts the Officer

"GULP!" Bellows James Logan.
