I also read about this movie a looooong time ago. I read that they wanted Tom Cruise. If Leo plays Tony Stark I'm killing some people.

I think Cruise would be a perfect Tony Stark. :D

Leo, on the other hand, would be the opposite.

I really think Tom Cruise would be a top-notch Tony Stark. Can't think of anyone else who'd be better suited for the part, anyways.

George Clooney might, but hey...after BATMAN AND ROBIN, I think he decided to stay away from comic book guys. ;)

Didn't they consider Nicolas Cage to play Stark like a long time ago?

Hack
12-04-2003, 05:34 PM
Maybe, but he's now attached to Ghost Rider. Damn, I can't wait for that one!. Anyway, I think Tom would be a damn good choice especially if they go the trilogy way. He's going to need to do another trilogy after MI3 is over.

I'd rather have Tom over Leo as Tony Stark. I don't see Leo as an action star anytime soon.

I'm not a big Iron Man fan (have exactly one IM comic in my collection), nor am I a big Leo fan - but, having just read Alex Ross' illustrated MARVELS, Leo with a beard and mustache actually bears a pretty close resemblance to Ross' realization of Tony Stark.

But I just cannot see slender little Leo encased in a fighting suit.

The last I heard (in entertainment weekly) was that Nicholas Cage was gonna be Iron Man...

That was almost a year ago....

Tom Cruise!! HELL NO! Starks is 6"1", Cruise can never play that part!

Johnny Depp will be the answer.

I can definetly see Cruise as Stark. He has the looks, the age is about right, and the height shouldnt be a problem. He'll be in a metal suit most the movie anyway.

From Dark Horizons...

The Megastar reports that whilst out promoting his 'Samurai' flick in the UK, Tom Cruise indicated to Empire Magazine he's still keen on playing the role of Iron Man in an adaptation of the Marvel superhero comic.

For those unfamiliar, Iron Man follows recovering alcoholic and billionaire industrialist Tony Stark, who wears an armoured breastplate to protect his injured heart. Stark must battle threats to his company, to his city and his own personal demons which make him a rather dark character at times.

When the project first went into development a few years ago, both Cruise and Nicolas Cage were both attached to the lead role. Since then however the story & writers have changed altogether to the point Cage is no longer interested but Cruise is still keen on the part.

Of Iron Man Cruise says "He's a fascinating character, but we've got to figure out how it's going to work. And everyone is doing a Marvel character these days. How do we make that new, create something fresh where it doesn't feel like: "Oh, here comes another superhero story"?".

Kewwwwwwwwwwww.

And yet another promising superhero adaptation that is thrown away by the casting of the pretty-boy big star with few talent (*coughdaredevilcough*), and this is worst since he has a clause to aprove the final cut of the film.

I can see it:

Tom: "I don't want that shoot. My hair doesn't look fancy enough"

Nameless Director: "But... but... you are being tortured by the bad guy and you've been thrown into a wet garbage container..."

Tom: "Shut up! I'm the one that gives the orders here! Change the scene or make my hair to stay clean and brilliant. And put some wind in the scene so people can be delighted by its waving"

N.D: "Yes bwana..."

I whole-heartedly disagree with your view of the Cuise-ster there.

He is the right age for Stark.

He has the right look for Stark.

He can act.

He is a consumate professional on and off screen who's first duty is to the film rather than his ego.

I think he would make a spot-on Ironman.

Im usually not one for big star celebrity casting (and yes Affleck was abysmal as DD) but in this case I honestly can't think of an actor who could nail the part better.

If we were talking about DiCaprio Id be agreeing with you.

But Cruise is perfect for this role.

I'm sorry but anyone who can't see the match just isn't looking...

Well I was a big comic freak in the 80's but I never really had any Ironman.

But I will admit that Cruise is a ringer for Stark at least in the pics you showed.

Much more than the unmentionable one.

And they could do some subtle hieghtening for Tom if they really wanted him to appear taller.

I think they did that for Keaton in Batman, especially when in costume.

But I would have to go with Tom over any other choice that has been presented so far.

This is definitely Tom's role. He's perfect for it! Leo isn't even tough-looking, he paid 850,000 bucks and still no six pac or bulging arm muscles.

Not that I look....;);)

I hate to say it, but those comic book pics of Tony Stark are a ringer for Ben Afflek!!!

Not that I'm sugessting he should play Iron Man - I'm still having a recurring nightmare where I'm being tortured by being made watch a Daredevil/Gigili double bill......

Look people, Tom Cruise would suck. Dicaprio would suck.
Speaking as somebeody that needs only 3 issues to complete my 1 through 290-somethin collection of Iron Man (17, 35 and 67 if anyone has them and is willing to part) There are only a handfull of people that should even remotley be considered for the role of Tony Stark... and don't forget, they could always make War Machine.

1. Tom Selik. Yes he is a little older than Tony is supposed to be, but Tony always seemed a little older than the other characters in Marvel and also he was hurt in the jungles of south east asia, and that would fit nicely with the VietNam war as far as a timeline goes.

2. Cole Hauser. Now he is my unknown for this, but I believe that he could pull this off. He showed he could hold his own with a big name in Bruce Willis in a few scenes in Tears of the Sun. He would need a dye job but as far as phsically and acting wise, he would be a different, but good choice.

3. George Clooney. He tanked playing one billionaire super hero, maybe the second time would be a charm, besides I loved him in Return of the Killer Tomatos.

4. Ben Affleck. Yeah yeah, he is Daredevil, but I think he would be a great fit for Stark, especially since his acting is comming around, byt really... How many franchises can one person star in? Jack Ryan, Daredevil AND Iron Man. Probably not. AFFLECK ROCKED IN PHANTOMS!!!

5. Tom Hanks. A stretch? Have you seen him in ANYTHING where you didn't buy his character. It would also give Hanks a reason to get into really good shape, something he has never really done for a role. Hand the man his moustache and then the Oscar!!

6. Vigo Mortensen. Would probably play the brooding alchoholic to a tee, but could he pull off the billionaire playboy? I think so.

There you have it, the acting pool from which to pick your Invincible Iron Man!!!

How about Oded Fehr?

Apart from Tom Crusie, he looks like a likely candidate.

If Tom Cruise gets the part surely they'll have to re-name the film Iron Midget?

Bingo! Tom Cruise doesn't have that same exotic look for Stark that Fehr does.

If they were looking for an older actor I would say maybe Gary Sinise. Younger I would say that Justin Theroux kinda looks the part plus I think he is a pretty big guy. Also this is a bit of a stretch but I saw Tom Welling from smallville recently and he had a beard that made him look like those pics from the comics but to many people might think of him as Clark Kent rather than Tony Stark. Just a couple of ideas

i really hope tom cruise doesnt attach his name to this movie. it would do him alot more harm than good. i dont even wanna see this movie being made.
