She doesn't like to watch a movie more than once. Even if she loves it. I mean, I love her to death, that's like the only thing I don't understand about her. She's says there is no point. It takes away from the movie.

Anyone else like this? or their mother? lol

:D :D

My aunt is like that. She says she has never seen any movie more than once in her life. Even her favorite movie, she has only seen once. I don't know why. That's why she doesn't own any DVDs or VHSs. She'd never watch them. I don't really understand that state of mind either, but oh well. Whatever suits her.

I know LOTS of people like that, many of whom are always amazed when I tell them that I've seen WHEN HARRY MET SALLY 35 times and GOODFELLAS 15 or something. They just don't get it.

I always compare it to listening to a music album. If you listen to it once, why would you want to listen to it again? You've already heard it, right? The answer would be that you "get something" out of the music and that it makes you feel a certain way.

Same thing for me with movies.

I can watch a movie countless times and still get that "feeling" that I did the first time, or see something that I didn't the last time, etc and so forth.

It's kinda like music...only much, much cooler!! :D

I watched BEAUTIFUL GIRLS again the other night and it was like hanging out with old friends. Yeah, that tells me that I need a life, but it's also a sign of a great flick!

A truly great movie that you love should, upon occasional (or sometimes constant) rewatches, feel like a weekend at home after a year of living elsewhere. A great example of this for me is True Romance...everything in the flick just fits into place so nicely that it's nostalgic and heartwarming and really revitalizing all at once.

Most people I know rarely watch a movie more than once, despite loving it or hating it...though they'll watch it again after a 30 or 40 year break (no kidding).

Anyway, I suppose my point is, (and I guess this means that I don't have a life either)...you should, upon rewatching one of your favorite movies, feel the same way you do when you watch your favorite shows from 20 years ago when you fall ill. Comfortable with this story/people/dialogue that you've seen 100+ times. Which means you should rewatch movies you love plenty, if for no other reason than to bring that feeling back.

My mom never watches the same movie twice, too. We had a talk about less than half an hour ago. I said I was planning to watch Gone With The Wind tonight (which happens to be one of her favorite movies as well, that's probably the only movie we both love) and asked if she wanted to see it with me. She was like, 'I'm not that silly to watch it over and over again'. Well, actually she saw it like 3 times in her life, but the last time she did was 4 years ago, when they aired it on television.

She kinda liked American Beauty and Catch Me If You Can, but she will never ever watch them again ---> 'I saw them already!!!'

She once told me that when she was in Moscow in the beginning of the 80's and saw 'a good movie with Meryl Streep... Ah, Ira, it's much better than 9 1/2 Weeks!' She told me she loved it... I found out it was The French Lieutenant's Woman... so I'm buying this movie for her birthday (August 25) and to the present moment it's still unpacked. I tell her she offends me, but she hasn't even started watching it! :(

My mother is exactly like this. I can't find one movie that she has sat through more than once, even movies she adore to death. Of course, she's not your regular film buff but I do convince her to see a movie more than once, but she just won't. Hmmmmmm....

I know lots of people like that. In fact, most people won't bother watching the same movie more than once. As for my mother, she's not really a movie fan at all - but I know she's seen at least Moulin Rouge! twice (I made her :D), and GWTW a few times cause it's been on tv so many times over the years.

A couple of months ago I got the Roman Holiday DVD and it was just the two of us at home with nothing to do, but she wouldn't watch it because she'd already seen it once some 20-30 odd years ago.

My mother also has a weird thing about movies: she likes a LOT OF CRAP.

My dad and I both love Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Those are the only movies he could watch twice.

My mom like this. A couple years ago I bought her her favorite movie, Dirty Dancing, for Christmas. Then I noticed a couple months later it had a nice layer of dust on it, and I asked her why and she said 'because I havent watched it yet'. So I said 'well why not, i got it for you because its your favorite movie, your supposed to watch it" and she said 'cause i've already seen it." So about 6 months after that I noticed it was still in the same spot, with even more dust on it, so I grabbed it and said 'the hell with this' and went and sold it for $3 to the store I go to that buys used movies and cds. She still doesnt know I sold it.

No way. I think there are many movies that need to be viewed more than once to fully apreciate them. OR maybe if you saw a classic, and you were at a point in your life where it would not appeal to you, years later you could see it and realize that you were wrong. But then again i dont watch movies like 100 times either.

I think my mom has seen "Ghost" and "Titanic" twice, but thats it. Remember, we're the ones who are not normal. Normal people dont see movies multiple times, and only own about 8 DVDs. We're all nuts.

Phew! When I read the topic title I thought your mom licked the videotapes(and DVDs)before she played them.

Anyways I watch movies more than once but only up to 3 times for a movie I think is alright. If I really love the movie I'll watch it as many times as possible. I think that watching movies more than once is good because it tells if the movie has rewatch-ability value.

Why are you guys making such a big deal out of people not wanting to see movies twice? I barely ever watch movies twice and this thread is making me feel like there's something wrong with that. I don't see the point: all the mystery is gone, all the comedy and suspense are gone. Plus it takes anywhere from an hour and a half to over two hours. If I have parts I like I'll just watch those and get on with what I want to. I don't watch movies twice because I need time in my day to watch a new movie. I understand people wanting to watch it twice but to me a movie's impact lessens when I see it too many times. I don't get what the big deal is with not wanting too re-watch something. Does that make me less of a movie buff?

i dont know anybody like this, but i dont see the problem with it, if they only want to see a film once then thats up to them, its no reason to criticise them
