I went to see "Looney Tunes:Back in Action" and me and my roomate sat in the back row. Since it was opening weekend on a Sunday the auditorium was filling up. This guy & his son (because I heard the kid adress him as daddy) sat next to me.
When the movie started I noticed on the corner of my eye that he was slouching on his seat that looked like he was sleeping. I did'nt dare to look see if he was snoozing but I guess he brought his son to this movie to please him. It's not like we were watching "Pokemon 2004" :D
But what just kills me is the body language of "I just don't wanna be here" vibe. There were OTHER movies playing at this theater like "The Matrix:Revolutions", & "Master & Commander" to name a few.
If the guy was un-comfortable to leave his son alone, bring another person, a relative, cousin, next door neighbor, whoever. The guy slouching next to me did'nt bother me but my corner eye (couldn't help it) kept staring at him.

The bloke didn't piss, chat, guffaw, give birth, bring a crossword, utilise 'ebonics', venture to the muthafuckin' lavatory...yet he STILL warrants a rant.

That's a VERY hypothetical situation, and was possibly unavoidable. He may or may not of had a nearby relative, cousin, or trustworthy next door neighbor to take to the film, OR he may of been criticized by a significant other for stating aloud "I don't want to see a fucking cartoon-live cinema movie."
Telling your child that you don't want to see a movie that you aren't interested in, or just believe is plain stupid would hurt the child's feelings, and thus cause other relatives to point fingers at him, citing that he isn't interested in things that his son wishes to do, including the film.
So he took the child to see the damn film so he could please his son and (or) other variable factors. Instead of sleeping, he could have kept sighing, and citing "Stupid fucking movie" while slamming skittles on the ground like some asshole did during my viewing of Freddy Vs. Jason.
Also, as you pointed out it was opening night of the film, which is when people who wish to see the movie are most inclined to see it, inlcuding children. This also means that you have that night, and only that night to find a suitable solution for someone to take the child to see the movie, hence the fact that it was on a Friday. The kid probably had a countdown calendar to the opening of "Looney Tunes: Back in Action", and Papa probably had to keep his promise to make sure he went to see it. Sleeping was probably a much more rational solution, instead of just saying "Sorry son, I don't want to see that fucking shit. Let's go watch Master and Commander instead."

personally, i see no big problem with this. Sure he could have tried to fake a little more interest in the film. But it was a movie his son pry really wanted to see, and it was nice of his father to take him to see the movie... wasting his own money and time to make his son happy!
Thats just what i think!

Interesting, at my showing of the same film, all the adults didn't want to be there appearantly, and nearly nodded off before it started, but ended staying awake because they liked it.
I wonder if you can try the method of taking the kids to film both parent and son/daughter would enjoy, but appearantly in this case of a film that's a little subjective.

When my parents used to take me to stupid kids movies they used to pretend they enjoyed it, so I wouldn't feel guilty or stupid or whatever. Although I remember one time my mum falling asleep during Honey I Blew Up the Kid, which I can accept.
But on the other hand, I'm never gonna take my kids anywhere. They don't pay for anything and they expect to get their way, they should appreciate the free trip and not be so arrogant as to expect their parents to stay awake during something shitty.

Same situation here but the movie during which my Dad fell asleep was Jungle To Jungle (with Tim Allen) but I rudely woke him up by vomiting all over myself.
I just felt like sharing that with everyone! :)

I couldn't agree more. Since when did everybody start thinking they were the theatre etiquette police? We need to learn to deal with the fact that other people don't alway do things you are going to like.

How does this fit into the rule of 'posting constructively?' Let's be a bit more supportive.

It doesn't matter if someone opens a thread in this forum called "I hate it when people use two fucking straws when they only have one fucking drink" --- if it pisses you off, post it, that's what the RANT forums are for. These message boards would be boring as hell if we weren't allowed to bitch every now and again, bitching is the funnest thing in the world apart from kicking people who are smaller than you.

Okay I understand the fact that you can post whatever rant you wish I don't have any issue with that.
However I just disagreed with the rant it's as simple as that I didn't support the rant because I didn't agree with it.
What bemused me about the rant was the fact Boarderevil was ranting about something that presented no clear impact upon his life.
It just made the grumble seem a little empty....
There is nothing personal or sinister about this comment I just didn't agree.

Never a truer word spoken.

I don't know how kissing his feet makes it constructive. You can make a constructive criticism on his rant, for example. But whatever.

Jeez! I get hassled harassed in "Strange But True" now I am stepping up to here. Yes, this rant essentially is not pertaining to me but an observation. At least what I am ranting about is sticking to the guidelines of this forum.
And my user name has no "A" in it see!

I wasn't hassling you, as opposed to stating my opinion on the issue, or playing "Devil's advocate" for the father in the situation. I was trying to give you situations and such so you could see that things might be different in someone else's shoes.
Not necessarily you BorderEevAlIII, but I try to give insight to wherever I can whether it be a spoken debate, or just some thread on here, so that I can open up discussion and show that not everyone lives the same day-to-day lifestyle or has the same amount of fortunate options as we might have.

I don't kiss anybody's feet. I was just telling him that I had his back in this situation.

Border...christ on a cracker. Here you are at it again, giving the good people who post on this board reason to hate the internet. I cannot believe that you have the GALL to rant and rave about something which is INSIGNIFICANT, and this is the very least of the problems on this particular thread. The CRUX of what is wrong with this is that you have, by your own hand, lured people in here to argue with you. Do you get a charge out of this or something??? I mean as if your trafficking of lies on the "Strange But True" thread wasn't enough, you decide to spread your hate and malice to every corner of this board! First you pick on people in the theater who are of NO CONCERN to YOU, whats next, HITLER?!?!?! Babies who cry because their mother's dont feed them??? THREE LEGGED DOGS??!??! YOU MAKE ME SICK.

Sorry, but I feel that this rant is just stupid. Maybe the guy had a long hard day at work and STILL wanted to spend time with his son, you don't know. The basic fact was that he cared enough to take his son to a movie that the kid obviously wanted to see, even if he didn't. I salute the guy for doing that for his kid; too many people out there wouldn't. I've taken my kid to plenty of movies that I really didn't want to see (The Medallion, for one...ugh), but the look of happiness on his face that not only did he get to see a movie he wanted to see, but his dad cared enough to take him, is something that I enjoy to no end.

I think you're all being assholes. If you think this is a "meaningless post" then I guess you'll have a blast with my brainchild of "Shitty JoBlo posters who complain needlessly just because somebody else is ranting about something that pisses them off".
I have just given the middle finger salute to my computer monitor. It is directed to anyone who is making stupid criticism of this thread. Thank you for your time.
Dear God I hate everyone in the world.
