Who's gonna help me?

I need someone who knows about New York electronics stores.
I am currently under way in buying a DVD player. Now, i cant spend much money but i saw that you can get a pretty good one for 100$ (give or take 10-20$) which is pretty decent for me.

I need a REGION FREE DVD player. I have a few R2 dvds which are precious but its damn hard to find region free players here (i checked the basic stores: Circuit City and Best Buy).

I have three options i guess:
1) buy a region free player in a store, here in New York (if that's even possible.)
2) buy a region 1 dvd player and then convert it to mutli region (problems might arise here with RCE and shit)
3) buy a region free dvd player off the internet (ebay etc.)

What do you think i should do? Personally, i would rather buy one ready region free in a store so i can avoid hassle but i dont even know if thats possible here in NY (it should be). Does any1 know of a store i can check out?

Also, i know Pioneer is good (i had a Pioneer multi region which worked fine back home) but what other makes are good for dvd players?

Thanks in advance schmoes.

k.. dont know much about new York electronic stores.. BUT A Region Free dvd player for around 100$ will be one really hard thing to find. Your best bet would be EBay. I doubt very much you'd find a new Region Free player for that price... a used one is your best bet.

I paid $145 for mine, I love it to death and constantly order import DVDs of various french/italian/hk/jap movies.

I don't know about NY and whatnot, but I just suggest you find a good secure website and order from them.

You can check out that DVD player. The price isn't to bad and it has everything I'm assuming you want. Honestly though I'm not to sure about this website...

ZzaNuBiZz: I already said that i tried Best Buy and Circuit City in my first port and neither of them have it.

Jaywrx: ill check out the site but where did you get yours?

Cyclic Nightmare: you cant help me since you dont know what a region is but basically the whole world is divided into six regions for DVDs. America is under region 1, Europe region 2, Russia region 3 etc.

I thought that i would get fast answers quickly knowing that a lot of people must know something about Regionfree DVD players.

i dont think the problem is our knowledge. I think the problem is your searching for the needle in a hay stack! A Region Free dvd player in your price range is next to impossible to find. You may be able to find one for your computer.. but even that is sketchy!

I would go with option 2. You could find multi-region hacks online for region 1 players. That's what I did for my Zenith player.

Im not asking for someone to come and tell me: ok this is what you have to do bla bla bla.
It's not about that. I just want advice. Or more options, or what other people did. Etc.

Yeah, maybe ill just do that VicVega, thanks.
