From Bloody-Disgusting:

With both MGM and Dimension Films developing competing Amityville Horror films, MGM fired the first shot by announcing a September 3, 2004 release date for its project, according to Variety only to have the stakes raised by Dimension. Film Jerk announced today a August 20, 2004 release for Dimensions version of Amityville Horror. This should turn out to be one interesting battle, but my question is, with both companies rushing to get the films out, how good will they be? I'd rather wait a while than have two half-assed flicks in the same summer. The way it's going, both films will flop and the studios will blame the kids lack of interest in the horror industry for the flops.

Well I find it odd that there are TWO remakes and that they're both being released theatrically at release dates that aren't too far apart. I'd think one would go straight to video. But I'm not in a frenzy being since I expect at least one to be good (and scary). It'll be exciting to see which one is better.

Well I think MGM has the upper hand here. The earlier Amityville movies were obviously released from them. It would be foolish battling it out at the theaters. As for TV thats nothing new. Not to go off topic I remember when CBS, ABC, & NBC had their movie versions of Amy Fisher.

Not only do the Hollywood Movie makers have no ideas, they have to remake old ones.

Then they have to fight over them.

Can anyone say Dantes Peak and Volcano!

Get a life we certainly don't need two remakes.

Try making a decent original film. Hey what am I saying... thats laughable.

It's funny, I read your post and agreed whole-heartedly. Then I read your screen name and laughed. You are so right.
