That's right; although Sean Connery was the first to play James Bond in the movies, American actor Barry Nelson was the first to play Bond at all. It was an episode of the '50s TV program "Climax!", and the episode was an adaptation of the "Casino Royale" Bond novel (with Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre). This episode comes as an extra on the CASINO ROYALE DVD, and it's actually a fun little short. It's interesting to see Bond in this era, as an American agent (indeed, as Bond is called "Jimmy" here) in a story more suspenseful than action-packed. It's worth renting the DVD just for this little extra.
