What is going on here? That's so strange. What I just quoted would have been my second post, but it shows up as my first. That's really weird. Oh well, no biggie.
Man, I'm so pissed at myself. I was originally thinking CAT IN THE HAT would open with only a few million more than ELF, since it looked so stupid and all. But instead of going with my gut on it, I got swept up in all of the 50+ Million predictions, and figured I was probably wrong and everyone else was right. Damn me! My original predictions would have been almost dead-on.
Here's my original prediction:
Friday - 10.8 Million
Saturday - 12.9 Million
Sunday - 12.2 Million
Total - 35.9 Million
Here's my prediction I ended up going with:
Friday - 15.5 Million
Saturday - 17.6 Million
Sunday - 16.9 Million
Total - 50 Million
I'm really kicking myself in the ass right now.
Here's my GOTHIKA prediction:
Friday - 5.5 Million
Saturday - 6.5 Million
Sunday - 3.9 Million
Total - 15.9 Million

Yes, that was strange. I noticed that too.

Those numbers are a bit wrong.
Looney Tunes dropped nearly 60%. Goddammit. Hopefully it will have a huge recovery like last Friday.

I think they are right about Looney Tunes, but wrong about the other ones. They are usually always a tad off with their Friday numbers.

I am really glad that THE CAT IN THE HAT didn't bomb. It will have a good weekend multiplier because of Saturday and Sunday and reach around $38 million this weekend, and should have good legs over Thanksgiving even with the bad press. Kids are actually enjoying this a lot from what I've heard and that always signals box office gold.
GOTHIKA also performed extremely well. It could make it to $20 million this weekend with good legs.
Ouch for LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION, THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS, MASTER & COMMANDER and BROTHER BEAR. And everyone thought that M&C would have good legs.

Fuck! What's wrong with people? Are they all slaves to hype? I'm so pissed that The Cat in the Hat will make more during its opening weekend than the crowd-pleasing Looney Tunes will make throughout its entire run. People suck.

It's really too bad about Looney Tunes, I hope that this debacle doesn't make Warner Bros. completely abandon the franchise because they are great characters and have been a goldmine for WB for decades.
Every movie in the top ten should die a horrible death immediately.
Except:
Elf (love Will Ferrell)
Love Actually (The English are so cheeky)

On a side note, say that Matrix Revolutions has already turn profitable thanks to worldwide numbers:
Budget = $150 M
Marketing Costs = $30 M
WW Gross so far = $354.79 M
Money for the Studio = $195.13 M
Profit = $15.13 M
And it will only get higher....

Cat in the Hat isn't going to be great. For sure it had a good opening, but not as good as hoped, and there are other family films released/on the horizon. It will have huge drops. Next week's Haunted Mansion is going to hurt it badly.
What's more: The Grinch made around 80% of its gross domestically, because basically noone has heard of Dr Seuss outside the US. If this time it happens the same (and it will happen even worst, since Mike Myers doesn't have the status of international star Jim Carrey had - he's known, but not a star), and considering the indecent amount of money it costed ($149 M including marketing costs), this can be a flop!
I don't see it making more than $130 M domestically, and that would mean around $165 M worldwide... poor, quite poor...

i forgot to add my comments, so here we go.
WTG Gothika! 19 Million is a good opening for this. Also, I think it should be known that Elf was number 2 on Saturday. ;)

There is a commercial for revolutions that says it has the highest first weekend gross ever worldwide.
Revolutions may be profitable but it's still underperformed. Also remember warner village have a $90 million hole in their books because of the adventures of pluto nash that the matrix was supposed to cover.
I'm happy for GOTHIKA. It should be able to reach 60 Million or a little better.
Also worth mentioning is 21 GRAMS, which did superb business in limited release.

I don't think Revolutions is a dissapointment at all.
For one, it was an excellent movie.
Two, it already turned a profit.
Finally, this will do GREAT on video/DVD. Hell, Blood Work made more then 88 million dollars...
Actually, I don't think it will do GREAT on video and DVD. It will do well enough, but not GREAT. Movies that come out for sale on VHS and DVD right away (all are for sale on DVD, but not VHS) don't tend to do as well in rentals. That's because most people buy them. It should turn in a nice profit in sales though. Reloaded has only made 37.15 Million in rentals so far, and won't even come close to reaching the gross of Blood Work. The movies that most miss in theaters are the ones that get rented the most, in most cases anyway. It doesn't matter though, Revolutions will make enough money back worldwide in theaters to cover its expenses, and then will have all of the sales and rentals to make $$$ from once it hits video and DVD.
