I was checking a website for upcoming release cover art, and I saw the Panic Room cover...thing is, it says:

SUPERBIT

on it...does this mean the DVD will be devoid of extras? The single disc Superbits I see are all barebones! I don't care about the Superbit thing...I WANT MY EXTRAS!!!

Anyone know anything about this???

I doubt that they would only release it on Superbit. At least, I hope not...does anyone know about this?

its the same thing they did with Black Hawk Down. A Special Edition will be released sometime next year.

Good news for UK viewers. The release of Panic Room due at the end of October is a special edition, none of this bare bones superbit bollocks.

the suberbit of PANIC ROOM actually does have the theatrical trailer and im not sure but i think it said COMMENTARY on it (even tho i never listen to commentaries) (not sure, dont quote me on that) but it does have the trailer which kinda makes it not a suberbit, but there is DEF a non suberbit 2 disk special edition coming out later this year or next year!

If you look at the superbit range the latest editions have been two discs, one disc with the film and a second with bonus features, I wouldn't worry if I was you.

Yep that's what I thought.

I was figureing it was going to be a Superbit Deluex edition.

I hate fucking Superbit. It's so fucking useless.

I love my superbit DVDs, I am connected to an HD tv so the picture quality is drastically improved. I have done comparisons w/the original DVD of Air Force One w/the Superbit, and the video is def better. The Audio though is where it kicks, glorious DTS.

Most of us don't have an HDTV though...

I'd take the special features over that damn SUPERBIT crap anyday.

I heard about a 2 disc special edition coming out as well, but why the hell would they make the first release the Superbit one? Pointless to me.

I don't really care about the features I just want it for the movie.

I have the Superbit pre-ordered, but I'll probably end up getting the special edition with extras as well. I am curious to see what difference Superbit makes (if any), since I don't own any Superbit titles, and I guess this movie (one I really enjoyed) would be a really great place to start. None of the other Superbit titles interest me.

At www.play.com (http://www.play.com) the only bonus material confirmed on the R2 disk do far is..

Filmographies of director David Fincher and the main cast 'Panic Room' teaser created by David Fincher Interactive menu Scene access

Surely Fincher will put more effort into the DVD??

Fear not Bub. I hear the r2 is due to be an SE with (at least) a commentary by Fincher and Foster

My bet is that Finch will make a SE DVD edition at some point for the fans.

The studio is probably just wanting to throw out an edition to make a bit of money...

But Fincher hasn't let us down before. Just look at SEVEN and FIGHT CLUB. Easily the 2 best DVDs around.

And, yes, I'd take extras over superbit anyday. I love extras, and I want it all -- The movie and the extras.

The picture is great on DVD and most of all I just want to see the movie. ANY WAY I CAN GET IT.

Fincher will bring out a great edition of PANIC ROOM. I know it.

In Fincher we trust.

Both R1 and R2 will be bare-bones only this year, the only difference being that R1 is Superbit and R2 is not. However, next year both regions will be getting a 2-disc edition with (apparently) 3 commentaries (hopefully including a Jodie Foster commentary), documentaries, etc.

In a press release Sony (Panic Room's distrubuter) says they have no plans to release a special edition.

So I guess you'll have to live with a Superbit.

I saw Panic Room in the theater.
I liked it but not too own. The movie could have been better with a different angle to it. They could have done something like having them in the panic room while the bad guys use the house for other purposes. Then coming out of the room at different times to get things and watching them in the first half of the movie and the second half could have been the bad guys trying to kill the 2 in the room for all kind of reasons. For knowing their plans, etc.
Just my opinion on this movie.

I have trouble believing that a David Fincher film that not only grossed $100 million but that is a critical and popular hit will not sometime be coming to DVD as an SE. They are probably just saying it because details are still being ironed out, or they don't want to hinder sales of the first edition to be released.

I was watching the Panic Room Superbit DVD a couple of nights ago on a trinitron monitor. The picture is crisp and clear but no clearer than any other DVD I've seen. Great movie though.

Don't feel stupid for not knowing what it is. The superbit dvds have better picture quality and sound. However, to do this, they need to take up more disc space on the dvd which means next to no special features unless there's a second disc.

The superbit dvds have better picture quality and sound.[/B]And from my experience with Panic Room it's a pipe dream. I have seen many DVDs that include extras that have better picture quality, for example Hannibal. Only 5.8 GB out of a possible 9 GB is used on the Panic Room Superbit, meaning that there is plenty of room for extras, and the lack of special features is just stingyness rather than a genuine improvement in audio-visual quality.

The "case" it comes in is awful. What were they thinking?! Could they get any cheaper?

Don't shoot the messanger. I'm just repeating what I heard. I too want a SE for this movie.

This is mightily annoying, it seems the r2 will, contrary to early reports, be a barebones disc. It won't even be a superbit edition to make up for it.
Let's all pray for an SE

I really don't know about you guys but I buy a movie if it is good. I bought the RD's 1st dvd and will not buy the SE until the orginal is broken. Same thing goes for Black Hawk Down and Panic Room. I frankly don't care. But if I had a choice in stores like there is the Thin Red Line Fox Film Classics bare bones DVD next to (I hope) the special edition/redux then I will get the SE/Redux.

Big mistake by the studio here. Tons of DVD fans will wait it out and not pick up this superbit edition.

Probably was a 90% chance I would have picked it up... now I'll just wait it out and see what hits the shelves over the next couple years.

I don't think the Panic Room DVD is that bad. I admit it's nowhere near as good as Fight Club or Seven's DVDs, but it's still a fairly good DVD. I thought the picture quality and sound quality was great. Also watching Panic Room on DVD made me like it a whole lot more.

Now I heard something before about The Game coming to Criterion...

Pootie

yeah the game will be criten or some other SE format just a while off but a mike douglass/fincher commentary would just rock.

No, I'm not mad at you, sorry if I made it sound that way. It's just that the news that you heard, while it is currently true, likely won't be in the long run.
