Making a healthy debut at the top spot this week was Jack Black and his wild persona in SCHOOL OF ROCK which pipped REVOLUTIONS off with $2,094,363. Combined with last week's Advance Screening run, the comedy has racked up $2,512,453. Surprisingly holding onto the second spot was the MATRIX sequel, which fell a further 45% with $1,518,160. All together the final installment has managed $14,838,072, a hit no doubt, but still much less than its predecessor. Scoring a debut at #3 was Jessica Biel's sweet ass in horror 're-invention' THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE which scared audiences out of $1,092,533. The well recieved Clint Eastwood drama MYSTIC RIVER added an additional $672,288 to its total, which took it from an Advance Screening debut of #18 into the the top 5 with, overall, $757,552. SEABISCUIT fell back 20% out of the #2 spot with $608,364, taking the Oscar potential drama's total to $1,945,476. Missing the Top 5 on their first week in was Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning in UPTOWN GIRLS which brought in $504,462. Continuing hold relatively strong after 5 weeks in release is George Clooney and Catherine Zeta Jones in the offbeat comedy INTOLERABLE CRUELTY, which dropped off 38%. The Coen Brothers have managed a healthy little sum of $7,691,349. Will Ferrell continued with his last round of Advance Screenings with the comedy ELF, opening nationally this week, which scored him $347,930, taking its total to $578,691. Meg Ryan's saucy drama IN THE CUT saw her drop off, amongst other things, 27% in its second week, taking it to $833,801. KILL BILL exited the Top 10 after 5 consecutive weeks, down to #11 with a 6th week intake of $192,057. It's cumulative total sits at $7,575,742. Very nice indeed. Rising 51% in its 9th week of release is the Toni Collette drama JAPANESE STORY which continues to perform impressively. The Aussie pic has racked up $3,202,349. Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts continue to srop with their Parisian romance, LE DIVORCE. So afr it has taken in $696,509. The Spelling Bee doco SPELLBOUND amazingly increased audience interest with a rise of 18% in its second week. Maintaining the 16th spot, the flick has $253,214 to its name. Also rising 18% to bring it back into the charts is the IMAX feature TITANIC 3D which after 12 weeks has fascinated audiences out of $1,508,426. Not bad for a film on 2 screens. The period comedy NICHOLAS NICKELBY didn't get much interest over this past weekend, with the period comedy managing $48,103.

THIS WEEK (November 27th): After 2 weeks of Advance Screenings, Will Ferrell and his yellow tights open on screens nationally in the surprise US hit ELF. Also set for release is Colin Farrell, his 4th film this year, Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Rodriqguez and LL Cool J in actioner S.W.A.T.

Cheers FB.

Should be interesting where Elf gets in, after two weeks of advanced screenings. Kid holidays (and Will Ferrell!) should see it do really well opening week. The fact it made more in it's second week of advanced screening than the first is testiment to that.

Do you know whether that $578,691 is an advanced screening record?

Elf has certainly doen well for itself and is likely getting set for a relatively good run with the holidays on the upcoming. As for Advance records, I know Intolerable Cruelty made a little less, but still in the $500,000 range on its first and only Advance run, and last year My Big Fat Greek Wedding made $800,000 on one of its Advance weekends.

***RELEASE UPDATE***

Kiddie feature GOOD BOY is on hand for November 27th, as is an Australian feature entitled VISITORS starring Radha Mitchell. Both films have had next to nothing in publicity, I wouldn't even know about Visitors had it not been for our local cinema's website....Both films aren't likely to ligh the Office on fire, particularly the latter.
