My guess is that people being in school right now has much to do with there not being a daily thread.
Anyways, Gothika did well on Monday and CITH did okay since it's a kids film anyway. Radio and SM3 are hanging in there near the bottom of the top ten. Oh, how Revolutions has fallen.

Also because the numbers get so sucky during the school year. They are usually boring and not worth noting.
Anyway, I'm happy for Gothika. It's doing well, and has a better PSA than Cat In The Hat. Of course, that's because there's school during the week. Business will pick up Wednesday through the weekend though.

Yes, that's true, they are boring and all. But, I fugured since Lee's Movie Info sends me the daily box office in the mail (which I know several of you get it as well), I might as well put it to good use. I usually just glance over it otherwise.

I'm excited to see Wednesday's numbers as with the new films opening, they'll definitely be more interesting than your average Wednesday. Here's to hoping that Timeline and Bad Santa do better than expected.
Yeah, it definitely doesn't hurt to post them anyway, especially on a week like this when movies are opening wide on Wednesday. I just think the reason most people don't bother with them most of the time is because the numbers just aren't that exciting.

I can't wait for Wednesday's numbers either. I hope that Timeline does well too, but I'm thinking it might finish with only 45-50 Million. Regardless, both Timeline and Bad Santa will do well on video. I'm sure Bad Santa didn't cost much to make, so it will probably get its budget back in theaters, and then what it makes on video will be gravy. Out of all of the new releases though, I'm hoping The Missing does better than expected. But I don't know, it could go either way. I personally think it looks great, and so do a lot of other people I've talked to, plus they've done a great job of advertising it (although my cousin asked me what the hell it was supposed to be about, because she thought the TV spots were really confusing and didn't let you know what the hell kind of movie it was supposed to be), but it still could do poorly. I'm hoping for the best though, and most likely it will do well.

It's good to notice as well that, according to boxofficemojo, Beyond Borders made the huge per-screen average of $9. That's it, 9 dollars. Which means that in the 3-4 screenings per day, each theater only had 1-2 person... in the whole day!

Things'll pick up...
God, I just can't win. I should have left my prediction of THE CAT IN THE HAT at #1 again, but then I second guessed myself and lowered my prediction a good deal, puting it in the #2 spot. Well, it looks like it will probably be #1 again this weekend, even if it will be close between it and The Haunted Mansion.
I'm glad I lowered my prediction for TIMELINE, although it still wasn't low enough.
My prediction for The Missing wasn't TOO bad. It will make less than what I predicted, but I wasn't all that far off.
Bad Santa did better than I expected. It might make my 7.4 Million 5-Day prediction during the 3-Day weekend alone, and will probably see another 4 Million for Wednesday and Thursday.
Here's my predictions for the new movies opening:
THE HAUNTED MANSION
Wednesday - 6.4 Million
Thursday - 7.2 Million
Friday - 13.4 Million
Saturday - 13.3 Million
Sunday - 7.4 Million
Total = 5-Day (47.7 Million)/3-Day (34.1 Million)
TIMELINE
Wednesday - 2.8 Million
Thursday - 3.4 Million
Friday - 5.4 Million
Saturday - 5.5 Million
Sunday - 3.2 Million
Total = 5-Day (20.3 Million)/3-Day (14.1 Million)
THE MISSING
Wednesday - 2.4 Million
Thursday - 3.1 Million
Friday - 5.6 Million
Saturday - 5.5 Million
Sunday - 2.6 Million
Total = 5-Day (19.2 Million)/3-Day (13.7 Million)
BAD SANTA
Wednesday - 1.1 Million
Thursday - 1.2 Million
Friday - 2.2 Million
Saturday - 2 Million
Sunday - 0.9
Total = 5-Day (7.4 Million)/3-Day (5.1 Million)

Bad Santa did unebelievably well yesterday. That's great. Timeline dropped down a few spots despite increasing from yesterday. Bad Santa looks to be a hit for Dimension, especially with the great word of mouth it's receiving.

Can this be due to the effect of the word of mouth? Cat is starting to drop, and i assume it's downhill from now on. Santa is being a surprise (except for me), and it could make its gross in just 10 days or so...

That would be quite hilarious if, in the end, Bad Santa made more money than The Missing total at the box office. Then an expensive Ron Howard film with fairly big stars couldn't outgross an under 20 million dollar film starring Billy Bob Thorton , who really wouldn't be considered a draw on his own, and Bernie Mac along with Tony Cox, two actors who also aren't really draws.

2. GOTHIKA - 6.860 Million
3. ELF - 5.459 Million
4. MASTER AND COMMANDER - 4.291 Million

7. BROTHER BEAR - 1.190 Million
8. SCARY MOVIE 3 - 0.985
9. RADIO - 0.866
10. LOONEY TUNES - 0.560
those r from last week i think its very very interesting to c how the numbers compare. here's my observations:
1. Master and Commander increases! WTF? Who is seeing this?
2. Cat in the Hat increases!! I didnt even realize this at first! I am fucking amazed, with all the huge competition just :eek:
3. Its possible that 3 movies will topple 30 million this weekend, and they're all rated PG, going for teh same audience. I don't kno if this has ever happend b4, I really hope each movie can do this, I would love to see that.
4. Gothika had a strong hold, especially for a horror movie around Thanksgiving, its success makes me happy, I'm still trying to decide a grade for it, but i definitely liked it.
5. WTG Bad Santa, it was such a great movie, I think we all needed this, i hope it sticks around for a while.
6. The Missing had a decent increase, it should probably have strong legs.
7. And for the 3rd (i think) week in a row, Love Actually has seen a Friday increase. I still haven't gotten to this, looks like I still have plenty of time.
i think thats it for now WAIT
8. In less than a month, The Matrix Revolutions is out of teh top ten.

Those numbers are great for all the movies. Anyone who said that THE CAT IN THE HAT was a disappointment last weekend should put their foot in their mouth, because it will make almost the exact same amount this weekend. Great numbers for HAUNTED MANSION and ELF. Both stand chances at $30 million weekends. BROTHER BEAR and LOVE ACTUALLY are still showing strong holds. BROTHER BEAR may still have a slight chance at $100 million...The only disappointment is TIMELINE, but it isn't such a colassal disappointment as LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION.

Bad Santa is doing really well and I hope that Dimension takes advantage and expands the film next weekend. Does anyone think that they will? If they handle it right, they could ride Bad Santa's good word of mouth to a box office much higher than its 18 million budget.

It's amazing that even the tenth film, Brother Bear, would have almost been number one back in the beginning of September, when Dickie Roberts and The Order were released during the slowest weekend of the year. Maybe Paramount should have released Timeline that weekend and it probably could have made 13-15 million and been number one by a longshot.

I think that this week it's going to be necessary to wait until the actuals are released to determine what film is number one.

It still very well could. It's neck and neck with CITH.

Sheesh, Elf is a frickin' monster that just won't die! It's a terrific holiday film, it deserves all that money...
Bad Santa is probably my favorite twisted, depraved comedy in a long time...perhaps since Heathers. It's doing well against all these big, over-marketed films.

BIA still dropped 45% on a freakin' Holiday! :(
Sucks that Cat in the Hat made more on it's opening weekend than that film will in it's entire fun. :mad:

With the 5 day take taken into account, The Haunted Mansion should come out on top.
Films I Am Supporting:
The Missing did decently, taking in 16+ million in 5 days, and I truly hope it has at least, decent legs. I am going to support this film until the end!
Love Actually is holding up extremely well, making 11+ million in 5 days, and it deserves every penny it gets.
Looney Tunes dropped a lot, which is unfortunate, because it is far better than the other "kiddie" films that are taking over the box office.
Mystic River and Lost in Translation are still doing fairly well after being around for quite some time, and both will end up doing quite well for themselves.
And finally, Shattered Glass is doing ok in limited release, and I hope it can finish its run with more than 2 million. It now stands at about 1.5.
