I just discovered these guys. I've been listening to the weird thrills contained within their Odessey And Oracle album all night. On the surface it seems like an atypical piece of 60's pop music but there's something sort of off kilter about the whole thing. I get the same sort of kick out of this album as that I get from Love's Forever Changes. Although it's undoubtably of it's time, the songs have a timeless quality and lack the irksome qualities that seem to pervade most of the Beatles albums. There's something quite familiar about Odessey And Oracle but I can't really put my finger upon what it is. It sounds like something i've heard before. I haven't though. I guess that somewhere in my subconscious I had an empty space that required this album to fill it. Brilliant stuff. I'm going to be listening to this a lot. A helluva lot.

I fucking adore this album...pretty recent discovery for me too Psycho.

You're right about it being of it's time...but undoubtedly timeless all the same.

A Rose For Emily is possibly my favourite (I put it on download tag just a few weeks ago)...it's just teetering on piano wig-out territory if you get my gist, but it stays ever so restrained and delicate, + the lyrics and slightly off-key harmonies are treeeeeeeeemendous.

Time Of The Season is rightly the classic of the album.

Hmmm, nowt more to say...it's all fantastic like, and pisses on any Beatles effort as far as I'm concerned.

*Cowers*...awaiting the 'fuwious' wrath of fab four fans everywhere.

No...you're right. It shits 'em. I've never managed to put my finger on exactly what it is about the Beatles that makes me revile them so. It's combination of a lot of small things that when you glue them all together make one big fucking huge sun eclipsing thing that it's impossible to ignore. I tried again just recently. I downloaded The White Album and gave it a good seeing to. It's probably their best album but I still find it incredibly difficult to sit through it from start to finish without my finger getting twitchy over the off button. There's about half an album worth of gold on it the effectiveness of which is neutered by the remaining twaddle.

I think it's the fact that the talent fairy had passed them by.

I still think the white album is pretty damn decent though psychocandy.
