Katie Holmes in Batman... ?

OMG! if this is true, the casting of this film is fucking awesome!!!

December 01, 2003 - According to sources for Batman-on-Film, "Katie Holmes is in deep talks to play Bruce Wayne's girlfriend; Christopher Eccleston is in deep talks to play what will presumably be 'The Scarecrow'; no talks have been initiated for the role of 'Sgt. (?) Gordon'; the other major villain is a businessman who once clashed with Bruce Wayne's father, Dr. Thomas Wayne, yet no one is in talks for that role as of yet; and Michael Caine is in deep talks to portray 'Alfred Pennyworth.'"


While Caine and Eccleston's possible involvement was already known, this is the first we've heard about Bruce's love interest. If Ra's Al Ghul is indeed the villain then might Holmes be portraying his femme fatale daughter Talia? And is Ra's the "businessman who once clashed with Bruce Wayne's father"?

Katie Holmes' credits include Abandon, The Gift, Wonder Boys, and the TV series Dawson's Creek. She can currently be seen onscreen in Pieces of April and The Singing Detective.

Also, since this Batman film is set during the Dark Knight's early years, it is possible that Gotham City cop Jim Gordon might only be a sergeant at this point rather than police commissioner.

In related news, Sky News claims that Oscar-winning actor/director Clint Eastwood is up for the role of "mayor of Gotham City" in Batman. "I would like to show a lighter side to my character in my later years," Eastwood reportedly told the gossip columnist's spies.

Did anyone actually believe this rumor? Well, here's a real quote from Eastwood back when he was doing press for Mystic River. "I'm too old to make comic books," he advised Film Stew. "I like adventure films. I like a good adventure film as much as the next guy. But, it's not for me."

The next Batman begins filming in early 2004.

Sunday, November 30, 2003 (second update): With all the casting and "sequel/restart" rumors floating around, BOF has been trying to find out just what the hell is going on. This in tonight from what could be BOF's best industry insiders:

I'm just packing up to head back to XXXXX following a couple of months here in L.A.

I'm not sure if it's a sequel or a restart, but here's some stuff FYI:

OK, so let's recap. This source confirms the Eccleston/Scarecrow and Caine/Alfred rumors. We now have a love interest for Bruce in Katie Holmes. The other "major villain," has no one attatched to the role as of yet. Just what could this "businessman" role be? Is it Ra's? And no one is in the mix yet for Gordon--Sgt. or Commisioner.

Ok. so what do I think about it? well... i think Katie should be Louis Lane in Superman. BUT... I would love that she'd be in this movie, she has this kind of 'cult' beauty that's perfect for this kind of role.

I admit I haven't seen The Gift. I did see her (through commercials and such) on Dawson's Creek and on SNL and a few award shows and no matter how much she tries to sexy herself up, she still has a very boyish-face.

Well that is your opinion and I can respect that but I personally think she IS sexy and beautiful!

And I agree with Hack, she can play all them! Though I'm sure she wouldn't want that so she could be in other movies to show her versatility.

I really don't know why, but lately Katie Holmes has been recieving all this great roles 'nstuff. It looks like she'll be getting cast in this film, and NOT as Talia, which is good 'cause imo she doesn't fit that character. This is how I feel about all current ideas for Batman projects. Having a new Batman movie? VERY cool.
Cashing in on big stars because names look good istead of actually casting the right person for the role? Very bad.

All the current Batman projects/ideas/etc just seem to be "How much money can we generate on premise alone? That way we can throw out anything and it'll sell well for the first few weeks."

Am I the lone voice of dissension here? This would be bad casting. She's cute as hell, but that alone doesnt make her a great actress. She's a pretty bland actress, very limited in the things that she can do. Every time I see her in something, its not like I can buy her character at all - she always looks like Katie Holmes acting. I loved the movie "Go" with her in it, although she had all the same mannerisms as her character Joey in Dawson's Creek. (I admit it, I watched one or two episodes way back when)

Christian Bale is still on as Batman, right? Even more reason not to cast Katie.... just cant see her & Christian as a couple. He needs someone a bit more mature.

Damn straight! I LOVE Katie! She's UTTERLY gorgeous and a GREAT actress. It's awsome that she's going to be in it! My only concern is that because she is suppose to be the love interest, she might be underused which, with the exception of Catwoman, almost always happens with Batman's love interests.


BTW, Katie is most definately not the weak link in the cast IMO. IMO, Christian Bale is the one I'm not crazy about. Never really been a fan of his.

Ugh, not a good choice in my opinion. She looks and sounds pre-pubescent.....this Batman movie seems too dark and gritty to feature a lead actress who's only other acting credits come from teeney-bopper movies and.......DAWSON'S CREEK.

Teenybopper movies, I don't think movies like Go, Wonder Boys, The Gift, The Singing Detective, and Pieces of April go in that category. She has well shown her acting ability in all of them. So I have nothing but faith in her. She is also 25, she is not a little girl anymore so give her some credit. She had played in dark movies and has played many different characters so I think she will be just fine.

If want to see good movies where she has shown great acting ability rent Pieces of April when it comes out next week, as well as Go, and Wonder Boys. :)

I never said anything about Teaching Mrs. Tingle and that was years ago. I think she is trying to do more mature movies and I think she deserves a chance. I also don't think Go was directed toward teen auidences because all the people I know who have seen it are older. It was also well recieved by critics and I wouldn't consider Doug Liman films teeny-booper.
