Movie Gallery BITCH!

I just got back from Movie Gallery. My main reason to go there was to turn in an application (Im desperate), but to also rent a movie or 2. As Im standing there, the new manager, I dont even know her name, was talking on the phone. Instead of saying 'be with you in a minute', she just turns her back on me. So I stood there and listned to her end of the conversation, on of those 'uh huh....yeah...so what'd she say then....uh huh" conversations, obviously not work related. She finally gets off the phone, and says the usual 'what can I help you with', and I say 'Im turning in this application' and hand it to her. She doesnt even look at it, she just lays it on the counter and proceeds to stack a ton of used movies on top of it, like it means nothing. That kinda pissed me off as well, but then came the kicker.

As im getting ready to actually walk into the movie section, I see a poster laying on the counter, so I check out the name and it says 'Bruce Almighty'. I have a shitload of posters, and Jim Carrey is my favorite actor, so naturally I wanted it right away. I asked her, since I've gotten free posters there before, 'Is this free'. She looks at me and says 'No its not' and as she says it, she kinda smiles at me, so I thought she was joking. So playfully I said 'Oh, its not huh? ok' and grabbed the poster. As I was going around the corner of the counter she says, in a real shitty voice 'No its not, put my poster back'. So I slam it on the counter and say 'Its really not?' and she says 'No'. Just then the other lady working, who I know well (shes been there since the store opened) says 'Yes it is free, I just pulled it today' So I grabbed the poster again and said 'thank you' to her. I walked into the movie section, and as Im looking at movies, I can see the 'poster bitch' out of the corner of my eye, and shes staring at me. She stared at me the entire time I was in the store, like I was thief for taking a free poster.

As I go to check out, Im standing at the 'open' side of the counter, and shes on the unopen side. So I stand there for a couple minutes, waiting for her to notice me, and when she finally does, she says 'I can take you over here'. So I go to the unopen side to get checked out, making my mind go insane because unopen means unopen, but whatever. After ringing up my movies, she asks me if I wanna buy a discount rental card for $27. So I say no, like usual. She then asks, real snappy, 'why not'. I look at her with disbelief and say 'because I dont have that much money with me, and its not much of a deal anyway.' I finally got all rang up, and went to the other side and signed the slip, and she told me the movies are due back Sunday. I said 'Sunday, thanks' and turned to walk out of the store. As I turned she says 'Your welcome for the poster too'. That really pissed me off. I almost turned around and said 'Well, why dont you be more of a bitch about it? Its just a fucking poster.' But instead, I kept my cool, turned around, flashed an evil look and said 'thaaaaank yoooouuu' and walked out. Luckily I had parked right in front of the door, so as Im getting ready to back out to leave, I can see her, and shes staring at me again. So as I back out and start to take off, I honk my horn and raise 'good ol' lefty' out the window and flip her the bird.

What a bitch. This woman is the new store manager for fucks sake and she treats customers this way? I dont even wanna fucking work there now. If they call, which I doubt they will after she recieved the 'bird', Im gonna ask if its her on the phone and if it is, Im gonna tell her to fuck off. After I take my movies back on Sunday, I wont be going in there for awhile. Treat me like that and your gonna lose business.

Yeah its a big movie chain. And she is the store manager, thats what made me pissed off more than anything. Managers are trained to keep customers happy, not be bitches to them.

I've had problems with people at Movie Gallery before as well. There's a guy at my local store who goes as far as bringing his son to work with him to do his job and then berates him in front of the customers. He's constantly on the phone or smoking when you're waiting to get checked out. He's rude, obnoxious, and just an overall ass. Even though it's the closer to my house than Blockbuster, as well as cheaper, I'll go out of my way to drive farther if I see his car in the parking lot.

I'm not a fan of Movie Gallery either. Is there a Hollywood Video in your town? They're always very nice (and better stores anyway), and while I'm not a fan of sales help or clerks greeting you when you come in their store, Hollywood Video must have this as a policy for their workers. If it's not busy, someone always say hello when I walk through the door.

The issue isn't with Movie Gallery, it's with that clerk. BUT I am mgr at a Movie Gallery and one time we fired a employee that we really liked because of a complaint that was sent to the corporate office. The kid was usually great with customers, just had a bad moment. You can call Movie Gallery all the crap you want (I'm the first to admit they have ton of problems, but IMO tons less then Blockbuster -- Hollywood is very good), but the fact is that they listen to customers better than 90% of retailers in ANY business (not just movies). Good rant, but you can actually do something about this one. File a complaint (the 800 # might be the best way), talk to the HEAD store manager, do something. Hopefully you will be treated well, not sure how MG's are run out in Indy, but you'd be treated well by me. If that doesn't work, PM me your address and I'll see that you get some coupons -- but you should talk to the head mgr there.

Jackson, a while back you posted that you liked Movie Gallery, and while I admit I'm biased I hope that you won't let one stupid girl ruin your opinion of the company as a whole. Like you said, lower prices, longer rentals on new movies, and none of the return-by-noon stuff. A well run company, that like any company, occasionaly hires the wrong people.

Your right. I do like Movie Gallery. Thats what pisses me off most. This happened at a place im a regular in, and give lots of business too. Anywho, I sent a complaint in, via thier customer service section on their website. I just hope I hear something back. The coupons thing sounds like a good back-up plan though, so I'll let you know what happens.

As far as the formal complaint goes it probably wont carry as much weight since you flipped her the bird. I'm sure they would look at that. I'm not saying I might not have done the same thing, but I'm just commenting on how the corporate powers that be might look at it.

Bah! There are times to be the better person, and times to give surly store managers the finger. Going through the beaurocratic nonsense to lodge a formal complaint would eventually seem petty, and for what? A few free rentals and a hollow apology? Waste. Of. Time. I'm sure Jackson wouldn't want to work under her anyway, so the bridge wasn't even built for him to burn down.

Update:

I never got one email reply. Not even a simple "We are sorry, valued customer." Needless to say, I havent been back to the store since it happened. I have also quit going to another video store in town because I got screwed over on buying a movie, which is not the first time its happened. Allow me to explain:

The store is a local chain, and I know everyone that works in my towns store by name, and vice versa. I even go in sometimes just to visit people. The lady who runs the place and I often stand around and talk nonstop for hours (we do all the time). I reserved a copy of Bruce Almighty on DVD to purchase once they pulled some copies to sell. She promised me they would save me a copy, as they were pulling them the day after I asked. So, the next day, I went in to get my copy. She tells me they havent pulled any copies yet, but to come back later in the afternoon because by then they will have some pulled. Well, Bruce Almighty was the only DVD I had left to buy with my christmas money, so I went home for a few hours and came back later. As I walked in the store, she said to me in a really snobby voice "We didnt pull any movies this week. It'll probably 2 or 3 weeks before we do." I just walked out of the store.

They've done this to me 3 times now. They promise me, give me their word that I will have a copy waiting for me, and then when I go in, theres nothing and it'll be a few weeks before I do get anything. A few weeks ago I got a phone call from them saying they had a movie reserved for me that I had down that I wanted to buy. The only thing is, I had put it on reserve so long ago that I forgot what movie it was and when I asked them what it was (Anger Management) I told them, 'Oh, I got tired of waiting and bought it somewhere else right after I left the store"

I was so mad (about the Bruce Almighty incident) that I went straight to Wal-Mart and bought a copy brand new for $14, $4 more than if I had bought it used. I hate when people give me their word on stuff and then just change their minds. I had money to spend, it was a guaranteed sale, they knew that that day they would get $10 from me, but they change their minds and then talk to me like trash when I come in to make a purchase. I havent been back to the store since then, and since im not going to Movie Gallery anymore either, im down to just Blockbuster now. If something shitty happens to me at Blockbuster, then im shit outta luck because there is nowhere else to go in my town.

I just realized that both incidents have been because of Bruce Almighty. The first one was over a free poster of the movie and the second was over me wanting the purchase the dvd. Maybe that movie is just bad luck to me. Either that or people are just uptight over it. Movie Gallery didnt want me to have a free poster of the movie and Quick Video (name of the other store) didnt want me to purchase the dvd from them. Weird.

Have you ever took a whole row of movies like new releases all of their copys which is usually about 5 to the counter and asked to be checked out? Man it really fizzles their shit.

Hollywood video is quite good but Ive had my run ins with bitchy people there.

A new Blockbuster has opened up by my house and its just an amazing place to be, its got a great horror section and a bigger sales section so I go there now.

I don't know... I'm a manager for hollywood video. Lately I just haven't been caring about my job. I feel like a really shitty worker. But I'd never treat a customer like that... Well, unless they were being a dick to me first.

I'm mostly fed up with my employees, and the theft from customers. I threw a guy off his bike and kicked him in the head last week for trying to ride away with a stack of brand new movies. Now all I need to do is fire a few people....And maybe quit.
