Could some American football fans help me out here?

Over what time is a game played?
Aussie Rules is 120 minutes,Rugby 80 minutes,Soccer i think 80 or is it less?
Second and more importent, how much action time is there on average?
By action time i mean when the ball is moving,on the bits i see now and again, there seems to be about 5 to 10 seconds of action, followed by everyone stopping and exchanging high 5's and replays from every angle, then another 5-10 seconds of action.Guessing i'd say about 10 minutes of action.
I suppose if i watched a full game ,i'd find out,but i cant seem to last out a full match.
It just depends where you live,if i was American i'd be a football and baseball fan,or English soccer and cricket, but in my neck of the woods it's Aussie Rules and the game made in heaven CRICKET.

Well, there's not a standard in all of American Football, but I suppose you're referring to the NFL (National Football League). In the NFL, there is 60 minutes of play which is divided into 4 quarters of 15 minutes. And there's a 15 minute halftime after 2 quarters. But the game itself runs much longer. On average a game in the NFL is three hours, give or take. They stop the clock for touchdowns, fieldgoals, incomplete passes, going out of bounds, challenged calls, injuries, and bringing chains on to the field to measure first downs. There's also commercials, which takes up most of the time when the game is not in play.
