I can't really think of best performances because it depends on my mood and the latest time i've seen the film so i don't think i should post a list because of its constant state of alternation (does that work?). I do have a question for samiam though. Where is your name derived from? Could it possibly be the punk band of the same name or does it mean something else?

retardinAz
08-31-2000, 05:58 PM
I've just thought of something. How about we make this to where instead of making it best/worst performances, everyone votes their top ten best, and gets to vote off one of the previously mentioned performances, but, if they make a bad selection I can veto it. What do you guys think? I think it gives it a pretty cool atmosphere.

QUENTIN
08-31-2000, 06:09 PM
Doesn't work dude, heres why: The entire point of these lists was to see what Schmoes considered the best thing in each movie field, if u do this then if people vote off then it is not an accurate measurement. Even if someone makes a "bad" selection (it can't really be bad or good except in the eyes of each person). No matter what the picks are they are the pcisk of the Schmoes, and thats what were trying to figure out.

retardinAz
08-31-2000, 06:40 PM
Okay. Then everyone PLEASE post your top ten lists for both BEST and WORST or just vote on one.

BTW the current count for best movie performance is:

10. Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump 14 pts.
9. Tim Robbins, Shaw. Redempt. 16 pts.
8. Kevin Spacey, Usual Suspects 20 pts.
7. Morgan Freeman, Shaw. Redempt. 21 pts.
6. Jack Nicholson, The Shining 22 pts.
5. Sam Jackson, Pulp Fiction 24 pts.
4. Robert DeNiro, Raging Bull 27 pts.
3. Ed Norton, Amer. Hist. X 28 pts.
2. Jack Nicholson, One Flew... 29 pts.
1. Robert DeNiro, Taxi Driver 31 pts.

Close Behind: Al Pacino, Scarface, 10 pts; Anthony Hopkins, Silence of the Lambs, 10 pts; Jack Nicholson, Terms of Endearment, 8 pts; Gene Wilder, Young Frankenstein, 8 pts; Orson Welles, Third Man, 7 pts; Jimmy Stewart, It's a Wonderful Life, 7 pts; Jessica Tandy, Driving Miss Daisy, 7 pts; Joe Pesci, Goodfellas, 7 pts.

Come on moviebuffs! Vote for YOUR favorite movie performance. All it takes is one vote and it could get on the top 10. Look at how close the scores are! Also, I would have put the top 10 worst performances, but only 2 people have voted on that.

There's a lot of great actors out there. There's a lot of underrated ones as well. Among the great and underrated actors are:

1. Philip Seymour Hoffman---He was even good in his bit part in Ripley.

2. Jeffrey Wright---Shaft 2000 anyone? Basquiat?

3. Christian Bale---He made me want to buy Huey Lewis and the News Best Of album after watching American Psycho.

4. Aaron Eckhart---He totally kicked mucho @$$ in In The Company Of Men. But he's got range, folks. He turned into a big sweetie for Erin Brockovich.

5.William H. Macy---I think he deserved the Oscar over Cuba Gooding Jr. for his work in FARGO.

6. Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix---While they are probably mostly known for SWINGERS and GLADIATOR, they both did very well in RETURN TO PARADISE.

7. Ed Norton---In any d@mn thing. He's going to go down as one of the great ones.

8. Morgan Freeman---For his work in Shawshank and Seven.

9. Kevin Spacey---In pretty much anything. He even made his stupid parts in OUTBREAK and TIME TO KILL worth looking at. I totally dug him in SEVEN though.

10. Leonardo Dicaprio---A victim of his own fame. Had he not done Titanic, people would respect him more. He was very good in The Basketball Diaries.

11. Sarah Polley---For her potential. She showed skill in GO.

I loved the whole nine yards. Perry was great. It didn't hurt that Amanda Peet showed her fine, fine, body, but it was great. My favorite scene is***SPOILERS***:

After Willis kills Michael Clarke Duncan, and Perry is shocked
Perry: Why did you do that?!(staring straight at Willis)
[Willis looks at him and throws him a beer. Perry lets it float right by him, not even attempting to grab it.]
