HORRIBLE nominations. Are all the folks at the Grammy commitee 14 years old?

As for Best Album, eh, they'll give it to Missy "no-talent bitch" Elliot. For the second time, Johnny Cash gets screwed again.:(

Who nominates the Grammies? Apparently they pick them straight off of the billboard charts rather than actually listening for interesting breakthrough music.

These are my picks in the three categories that have anyone good enough to determine having a winner.

Fountains of Wayne best new artist? Umm... yeah... is it 1996 or 2003?

Good lord, is this the MTV awards? I agree with Tom Samborski, this list looks like it was picked by 14yr olds.

Eh, I'd give a Grammy to the White Stripes and Audioslave. That about does it for my list. Although, I'm not even sure about Audioslave...I dig 'em, but am not sure they're Grammy worthy.

And how did Nickelback make it on here?

Best Song is basically which song was best written. It is given to, yes, the writer of the song for their work. Record of the Year takes into account everything, including the singing, the technical aspects, production, etc.

The only things worth a shit on the whole list are White Stripes and Eminems song.

I looked at International, and not a mention or nod for the Chieftains.

Ha ha.

If Stacey's Mom wins ANYTHING, I will execute people.

Even if you take into account mainstream artists and songs, Audioslave should have gotten more recognition.

Doesn't make any sense. Rage Against The Machine got barely any nominations or wins and neither did Soundgarden. And now they're screwing the band derived from those two great bands, Audioslave, out of deserved praise.

"Like a Stone" was a beautiful song and it should have been nominated for Record and Song of the Year.

As for the current nominees, Coldplay's Clocks doesn't deserve to be up there. "The Scientist" was much better. The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" should have also been nominated for Song of the Year.

I can see they are nominated for other awards, but it doesn't seem fair to exclude them out of the major ones.

Good to see Outkast in the running. They are one of the few bands in the R&B genre I can stomach.

HATE 50 Cent
HATE Justin Timberlake
HATE Beyonce Knowles
HATE Jay-Z
HATE Missy Elliott
HATE Sean Paul

What the heck is the time frame of each Grammy awards... Missy Elliot's already released her follow up to Under Construction, and it's just up now? It was out before last year's Grammy's?

Cool to see The White Stripes get lots' of attention...

But enough with Eminem please.

Avril Lavigne has way to many nominations under her belt already.

Ashanti. For best vocal performance blah blah? What vocals?

As usual, the Grammy nominations gamut runs from shitty to shittier... with a few exceptions thankfully. Nice to see the late Warren Zevon recognized, along with Speakerboxx... and Elephant both getting Album of the Year nomnations. But the Record of the Year category is surprisingly strong this year. The only one I don't really dig is Where is the Love. Crazy in Love is extremely catchy (heard it everywhere this summer), Lose Yourself is Eminem's first decent song, Clocks is a beautiful song by Coldplay, and Hey Ya! is so infectious and fun, and the best of the year.

That's a ridiculously terrible list...I don't particularly like today's music, but I do go to the clubs and such that our teens inhabit like reproducing bunnies, and even those brainless airheads with dance moves as slick as sandpaper hate those songs. Seriously: An Avril Lavigne song that no one, and I mean NO ONE really cared about?

Then again, the Grammies themselves are a terrible ceremony: Small, worthless awards given out at first, a commercial break, and then an eternity of musical performances form lacklustre bands, and then more pitiful commercials.

It's times like these that I would love to own a blimp, so I could spit on these sad performers heads. It may actually make their "punkish" hair cuts look a bit better.

God, I feel like an old man. Before you know it, I'll be explaining to Timmy why we had to shoot Old Yeller. Because the fucking mutt started lip-synching to some angsty music. He deserved to be shot. Twice.

WTF?

Evanesence, Justin Timberlake, and Missy Elliott for album of the year? They are sooooooo NOT deserving of their nomination in this category! Their disc's have exactly 3, 1, and 2 good songs on them respectively.

Along with Outkast and the White Stripes (whom I loate but I admit are unique) the nominees for album should have consisted of 3 of the following:

Luther Vandross "Dance With My Father"
Johnny Cash's last album
The Roots album
Mary J. Blige's latest
Robbie Williams latest
-5 really great albums IMO

Fountains of Wayne for Best New Artist? HUH? They've got 3 albums out! Makes no sense!

Half Dollar and Sean Paul for Best New Artist? Puhleeze! They suck donkey balls....... Lisa Marie Presley, Jason Mraz, Stacie Orrico, Joe Budden, Kelly Clarkson, etc. are all better and more deserving new artists than these two clowns.

The Grammys continue to piss me off.....

I'm sort of shocked The Mars Volta isn't anywhere on that list. The record was big enough of a commerical success to make grammy waves and is utmost deserving of a reward of that caliber..(even if the grammy's suck ass).

They're probably more likely to get a Latin Grammy nomination, if they get one at all.

Hey, don't you all remember last years appalling nominees? This years noms look like a ray of hope for the Grammy's or something compared to last years.

Coldplay should win Record of the Year though. I really love that song.

I think that Evanescence deserves it the most. I mean, better them (who actually have good songs, IMO) than "Justified", which has songs about rocking your body and, respectively, "Better have you naked by the end of this song". Yeah, real Grammy-worthy material right there.

Even as big of a rock music fan I am I would much rather listen to Justin Timberlake than Evanescence. He can make some good pop music.

You and me both.

Besides...ONE good song on Justified!? Surely you jest!?

I realise it's painful for some folks to admit it...but JT has produced the finest POP musak of the year, bar NONE.

Senorita, Rock Your Body, Cry Me a River, Girlfriend and plenty more to boot...all TOP quality jazzy POP tunes. He's one of the few popstrel's with credibility and charisma, I mean C'mon, he's jigged with The Flaming Lips ferchrissake.

Fact is...it's easy to be cheesy, but GOOD quality chart/mainstream lark is like GOLD DUST nowadays.

Kudos to the boy 'Trousersnake'...he's left Brit' looking like a washed-up old hag and he's picked up a few million fans on his travels.

It's obviously hopeless for Evanescence, seeing how the award will be given to the one with "style" as opposed to them, the one with substance.

Why assume great pop music is ultimately shallow?

I personally find Evanescence's 'sound' both dull AND conventional, they LACK substance as far as I'm concerned and I rank them alongside the vapid Nickelback (and their ilk)...the big ol' angsty empty.

BUT if they bag the award then fair play to them...still, I'd prefer The Stripester's, Outkast or JT to beat them to it.

Blasphemy!

I keed, I keed (or do I?)

Conversations such as this are good insight that everyone has their own opinion and that not everyone likes the same type of music.

Now I raise the question: If everyone did enjoy the same kind of music, it'd be quite the boring world, wouldn't it?

Whatever. I like Evanescence, I hope they win even though awards mean nothing to me. Yet if they don't, oh well. Just as long as the highly overrated White Stripes don't win, I'll be satisfied (even with Mr. Rock Your Body).
