There's a sneak preview tonight. I'm going to do whatever I can to see it. This film looks excellent. Hopefully it'll be as charming and clever as 'Love Actually'.

Though it isn't my style movie, it looks good to me. Great cast that'll probably get me to see it.

This Movie is definately My Bag! I loooooove Jack & I think he is paired very nicely w/ Ms. Keaton.
This movie I would for sure no doubt stand in line for. (Raises Nose @ Love Don't Cost A Thing :D )
I like a old fashioned comedy & very eager to see MORE what the movie has to offer.

Ill be seeing a sneak preview tonight and Ill post my review
My theater has a sneak preview tonight too, but they don't even list what it's showing with. I wish I knew. I wish it was Love Actually. That would be perfect and definitely worth my time. But unfortunately, I have plans tonight anyway, so I can't go :(.
This movie does look hilarious though! It looks really good. Certainly better than What Women Want. I definitely want to see it in theaters. December is a very shitty month for movies this year, and this looks like the best of the bunch. Nothing else interests me much.
I can't wait to see this. I think it could be one of the best movies of the year next to Love Actually.

Looks like a decent/good mature romantic comedy. Not something I'd see in theaters though, I'll wait for the DVD.

I wasn't going to see this, but as soon as Diane Keaton won the Best Actress award from the National Board of Review, I put it on my list. Plus, it has Jack.
"But really, seriously, what woman wouldn't want to be Keaton, all sexy, funny, tender, quick, and never more charismatic in her animated access to her own feelings? And what man, of any age, wouldn't want to be with her?" - Entertainment Weekly (Lisa Schwarzbaum) Grade: B+
I must agree with that quote about guys of any age wanting Diane Keaton. I think she's very attractive for her age. I like her quite a bit.
I figured this movie would get good reviews, but then I heard it was getting bad reviews from someone, but now that I looked, I've seen 4 reviews for it, and all have been positive.

Well I just got back from the test screening and I must say I was pleasently surprised. First thing I jus t want to say it is so nice to see a mature character driven romantic comedy of today. While not as great this film reminded me very much of the great Woody Allen films in the sense that the movie rarely gives way to crass humor to get laughs. All of the humor is derived from the screemplay and performances.
All in all this was an exceptionally witty film. The plot in itself is pretty simple. Jack Nicholson goes to Amanda Peet beach house for a little fun and games. While there he meets Peet's mom played by Keaton who immediately takes a disliking to him. Once Nicholson has a heart attack though things get complicated as Nicholson is forced to stay at her house to recover. ten there is Keanu Reeves, nicholson's doctor who gets the hots for Keaton and Amanda Peet who still like Nicholson. All the while Keaton starts falling in love with Nicholson.
You would thin comic hijinks comes from this. Im not sure hijinks is the right word. Its a very subtle comedy which is why I think this took it back from being great. It wasnt as edgy as I wanted and it felt just a little too safe at times.
Yet thats really the only negative points. This is really a great script filled with verbal sparring between everyone. It may not be a perfect script but its a kind of maturity Hollywood needs to get back to. Watching this film I couldnt help but flash back to the darker, edgier, and superior Mahattan also with Diane Keaton. Both movies revolve around age in a relationship among other things.
The persformances are also great. Nicholson and Keaton work so well together. In fact rarely have I ever seen Keaton so relaxed in a film. It seemed like she was having a time of her life and gave a completely naturalistic performance. Its like she just breezed thorugh the film (I mean that as a compliment) and easily held her own with Nicholson.
In the end this is a fine, witty, mature, and extremely clever film. Not a great film but oh well.
7.5/10

This looks like a smashing good time... Keaton rocks, and I heard she's brilliant... perhaps even the Oscar front runner... and Nicholson ain't half bad either. Add Peet, Ms. Frances, and the often wooden, but still likeable Keanu Reeves, and you have what could be a funny, mature, and entertaining comedy... I'll be there.

I don't know about this one, it has two of the greatest actors of a generation (No not Keanu Reeves and Amanda Peet), but it just doesn't look very appealing to me, unles me and a hot date go see it, but how likely s that to happen? I think my parents might like it, but it's just not my thing...

i'd go see it with a hot date... hell, i'll go see it with any date.
but as i am incapable of getting one, i'll have to see it alone.

If you guys want to see a film that (surprise) uses character situation and verbal wordplay as humor sees this. Its a welcome change to what is considered a "comedy" today. If only we could go back to movies like this Allen's hey-day. Its not great but its very good

i saw this last night i work on the night crew at a theatre and our maintenance guy/projectionist ran it for about 4 of us. pretty decent romantic comedy, has lots of good jokes, could of benifitted from soem more editing, and was a bit repetitious(spelling?) at times, still worth seeing, but i really preferred love actually.
somethings gotta give-7.5/10

I was waiting to post this when te movie was out and everyone was able to see it....after the watching the first half of the flick at a screening, the first thing I thought was "Why isn't this movie Rated-R?".
They drop two f-words in the first 20-30 minutes, we get a male ass shot, breasts, Diane Keaton's reacton(possibly) to oral sex, and maybe more in the first half alone. I've seen movies do far, far less than this get an R...
Why not this?
(Note: I really don't care about ratings(I can see anything)....but if they are gonna enforce things, why not do it right?)
Oh, btw, I give the movie a 5/10 or **1/2.

Nickolson was amazing, and I like Diane Keaton, although her acting sucked at first, but improved as movie progressed. (Too"on stage" at first) Movie seemed very slow first half-one note-Jack likes younger women & she's older-OK, enough already. I just actually hated this movie, but stayed w it because of cast of actors to watch, and it improved toward end, then, I thought the feel good ending sucked.A bit much. I enjoyed watching Jack & Keaton scenes at beach because I'm a fan, but I think this movie is too slow and is for rental only. IMO

Could have and should have been great, but it's mostly pretty painful. I suppose that shouldn't be surprising since Nancy Myers is behind it. There's a great movie somewhere (it's an excellent premise), but this is just pure Hollywood crap. I do not buy the sudden character transformations in Jack and Diane, and this has to be one of the most needlessly overlong movies in the history of cinema. It felt 6 hours long. It just went on and on and on and on. There are a few good moments and a few laughs, but overall it is fairly awful. The bit with Diane crying hysterically and writing is so misguided and should have been left on the cutting room floor. The directing is terrible and the editing about the same. It kind of skates around some serious, compelling issues, and rather than deal with them, takes the easy way out and lays on the predictability and formula. Too bad. A big letdown.

By the way MadsenOMC I completely agree on the Keaton c rying writing part. Completely took me out of the film. But to me the acting was so naturalisitc between the two performers I bought everything they did. I guess thats why i thought the film flew by

Something's Gotta Give is a charming and enjoyable romantic comedy that makes great use of its stars comedic talents but which unfortunately is nothing more than a good film. I expected more.
Diane Keaton owns this film in more ways than one. Its great to see her back in action. She gives a flawless performance which is the films greatest strength.
Jack is Jack and is great as always. Nothing more to say.
One of the films primary faults is the fact that aside from Jack and Diane, the others actors are sorely underused. Particularly the superb Frances McDormand and the vastly underrated Amanda Peet who give their all and more with what little screen time they have. I desperately wanted more of their characters.
My other problem with the film is that it was about 30 minutes too long and seemed to drag on towards the end.
I enjoyed Something's Gotta Give. I loved Diane, liked Jack but the film could have been so much more.
Anywho, I give it a B. A good film which had the potential to be better.

Something's Gotta Give (2003)

Synopsis: "Harry Langer (Jack Nicholson) is an aged music industry executive with a fondness for younger women, such as Marin (Amanda Peet), his latest trophy girlfriend. Things get a little awkward when Harry suffers a heart attack at the home of Marin's mother Erica (Diane Keaton). Left in the care of Erica and his doctor (Keanu Reeves), a love triangle begins to develop".
Even though Nancy Meyer's latest romantic comedy "Something's Gotta Give" follows the basic formula and becomes extremely predictable from the start, the film is saved by two key aspects which, in the end, make this film fun to watch. The first just happens to be the screenplay by Meyers. Her screenplay is loaded with such clever, witty, and overall great dialogue. The dialogue in this film kind of took me by surprise. Never did I expect for this film to feature such good dialogue.
As for the second key aspect that helps this film, that would be none other than the lead stars of the film, Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. Not only do they both deliver terrific comedic performances, but they also work very well together. It's great to see them in a film like this, because it's rare when a romantic comedy comes out that features two older actors.
The supporting cast which includes Amanda Peet and Frances McDormand deliver solid performances as well. Although I can't say the same about the other supporting cast member, Keanu Reeves. With all honesty, I think Reeves' future career in the film industry is cursed. When I was watching him in this film, all I could think about is "The Matrix" and his character "Neo". I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
Anyway, my only problem with "Something's Gotta Give" is the conclusion, which is unnecessarily long and tedious. It wouldn't have hurt if the conclusion was trimmed down a little. Nevertheless, "Something's Gotta Give" is quite an enjoyable, entertaining, and funny romantic comedy with two great performances and a great chemistry by Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton.
Running Time: 2 hours 12 minutes
Grade: 7/10 or *** 1/2 out of ***** stars

I gotta give this a 9/10. Not your usual romantic comedy, and with great performances form all around.
