I suspect this may have been done before (but my search revealed nothing), but just in case it hasn't I ask which bands (or singers) are from your city?

Montreal

- Men Without Hats :D
- Corey Hart :D
- Bran Van 3000

PS: Feel feel to close this if it's a duplicate thread.

Oh, hell. Suffice it to say that A LOT of bands have their roots in Los Angeles.

Since I'm sick as a dog, the only one that comes to mind at the mo is Van Halen.

And Motley Crue.

There's a band called Driven from my small-arse town; I went to high school with some of the members.

I went to www.allmusic.com and typed in Smashing Pumpkins, because I knew they were from Chicago. Then I clicked on the "Chicago, IL" link on the top of the page, and it gave results of all the bands that are from Chicago. And Cheap Trick weren't on the list.

But doing that search does give more results than I could possibly think of off the top of my head.

Sev, you forgot to mention two great Montreal-based artists - Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Leonard Cohen.

Winnipeg
The Guess Who
which leads us to...
Bachman-Turner Overdrive (also known as BTO to all the 'hardcore' fans)

Everyone all together now:

Takin' care of business, everyday!

Others:
Jet Set Satellite (they're actually really good, IMO)

And I can't think of any other ones, well, none that people know of anyway...

How could I forget the infamous Crash Test Dummies? It's too bad they sucked.

You should be really proud. They are a great band.

I don't listen to any bands that are from Dallas that people that aren't from here would know. I know that Elliott Smith lived in this area for a while.

I grew up going to Blink shows. It was strange going from watching them play used record stores here, to them being huuuge stars.

I remember watching Jewel perform about a week after she moved out of her Van here

Other honorable mentions:

Tom Waits grew up here
Eddie Vedder
Black heart Procession

I don't think any band came out of the city I was born in (Olomouc, Czech Rep.), except for maybe a few polka bands. ;) :D But since Seattle is where I lived the longest, I sort of consider it my home town. So out of Seattle came:

Jimi Hendrix
Heart
Alice in Chains
Nirvana
Mother Love Bone
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden

I'm sure I'm forgetting quite a few.

Melissa Etheridge (Leavenworth, KS is about 25 minutes outside Kansas City)
Eminem (Before he ever lived on 8 Mile, apparently he was here)

Sheryl Crow is also from Missouri.
