Opening bigger than both its predecessing sequels, SCARY MOVIE 3 laughed audiences out of $3,020,249 (US $32,344,040). The third Anna Faris parody comedy opened about $400,000 more than the original ($2,672,930) and over a million more than the sequel ($1,507,503). Dropping back to the second spot was Russell Crowe's big sea adventure MASTER AND COMMANDER, which was off 43% in its second week. The Peter Weir flick, which still managed $1,756,737, has rakced up a nice sum after 2 weeks though, which currently sits at $6,002,910 (US $64,285,549). Still hanging around the 3rd spot is Will Ferrel's ELF, which continues to bring in some Christmas cheer around the festive season. After 3 weeks in national release and 2 weeks of Advance Screenings, the crowd pleaser has managed $4,594,578 (US $49,203,631). Setting itself up for a successful run come Boxing Day, when it is nationally released, the UK romantic comedy LOVE ACTUALLY picked up $759,505 (US $8,133,587) on its first round of Advance Screenings. The mix of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman proved a little exciting to audiences, with the latest LOONEY TUNES offering making in the Top 5 with $646,946 (US $6,928,186). Colin's gun play, Jack's rocking and Keanu's sci-fi schtick all dropped off considerably in their 3rd, 4th and 6th week respectively. S.W.A.T., off 58% from last week added a further $622,437 to its total, SCHOOL OF ROCK, down 44%, scored an additional $530,675, whilst THE MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS, out of the Top 5 after 5 weeks and down 53%, saw another $253,032 added to its large total. Their totals, so far, sit at $6,333,351 (US $67,824,263), $6,761,962 (US $72,414,286) and $17,505,748 (US $187,470,181). Horror double TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and CABIN FEVER simultaneously dropped 61% to respectively take the #10 and #11 positions. Leatherface has slaughtered out $3,354,998 (US $35,928,889) after 4 weeks in the theatres, whilst the flesh eating virus in the woods has scored an underwhelming $559,179 (US $5,988,283). Showing that we, as viewing audiences, have a little bit of common sense was the comedy prequel DUMB AND DUMBERER entering at #12 with $103,084 (US $1,103,933). Another Boxing Day opener doing the Advance Screening rounds is the Bill Murray vehicle LOST IN TRANSLATION which scored, on 32 screens, $81,416 (US $871,889). Brittany Murphy looks like her fun with Dakota Fanning is running out as UPTOWN GIRLS drops a futher 68% in its 4th week out. Not even able to match the debut totals of 8 Mile ($5,169,952) or Just Married ($2,382,251), the flick will go out with $1,399,673 (US $14,989,188). Fairing a little better, in its likely last week, is Meg Ryan's erotic drama IN THE CUT which is down 52% in its 5th week of release. The Mark Ruffalo/Jennifer Jason Leigh accompanied thriller will go out with $1,449,002 (US $15,517,455).

THIS WEEK (December 18th): This week welcomes the tale of PETER PAN to the screen with Jason Isaacs, Jeremy Sumpter and Olivia Williams on boad.

Great work FilmBuff

No suprise that Scary Movie b won top spot. $3million opening is not bad

Peter Pan has been getting HEAPS of media exposer here. I hope to see a large opening figure. Perfect timing since school has just finished for the year.
Prediction - $5-6million

Matrix Revolutions is still holding in there. With a impressive $17.5million haul. But way down on Reloaded $34million takings earlier in the year

I got a bad case of motion sickness durring Masters and Commanders - Far Side of of the World So i didnt get to see the end!:( But what i saw it quite enjoyed it. $6million so far and climbing

Keep up the great work

So what the boxOffice takings would be if Australia had as many people as in the US

Exactly. It's just to show how well these films really do in Australia. Like you see, say, In The Cut only has $1,449,002, which may seem low, but that is actually a better total than the US (where it earned $4,717,455), because if you Australia had the same amount of people it would come to, approximately, $15,517,455. Hope it helped. It's really there to show how well films really do here. And seeing as this board is mainly American, it'd be a good indication.

Wow! Great stuff FilmBuff. Those new figures you've added makes it just more interesting.
Way to go Revolutions. Some day people will start appreciating this trilogy as they deserve. $17M is a big drop from Reloaded's Australian figures but it's still done good for itself.

Thanks Jedi, good to hear from you again. Yeah i'm liking the new numbers too. Revolutions is doing very well for itself, it's fairing better here than what it scored in its US run...but it certainly is a big drop, as you said, from the 33 Million Reloaded made.

Side not of facts, Reloaded has been dethroned by Finding Nemo as 2003's Biggest Movie so far this year. Nemo has taken in around 37 Million. It is the 7th Biggest Film of all time in Oz, with Reloaded at #11. Revolutions is currently sitting at the #80 spot on the All Time Australian Chart.
