According to midweek sales figures...
1. The Darkness 48k
2. Gary Jules 44k
3. The Osbournes 28k
4. Bo Selecta 21k
5. The Idols 17k
6. Will Young 15k
Looks like Cowell is going to be eating that big gay hat.
Go The Darkness...and big-up Mr. Jules (still not happy it's been released mind).
Will is still outselling new entries from Blue, Sugababes and Atomic Kitten despite 4 weeks on chart and the fact that you can't fucking find CD1 anywhere...yup, a whole MONTH later and it's still a case of 'needle in the haystack'...what a load of bollocks.
Frankly, I'm rather taken aback by it all...truly didn't see those figures coming.

I'm a little surprised the idols are as low as 5, but I didn't expect them to be 1. IMO they've not really been able to escape the appearance that this series is just full of people who haven't been good enough for the other 3 (1 idol and 2 popstars) series, and they've probably not been helped by that twat saying ozzy's smash was a publicity stunt. Song's a half arsed cash in too, at least the darkness's one has some bottle.

True enough...and the vid' for Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) is a CRACKER IMO.
"C'mon Kids!"
Pop Idol has failed me this year, fucking SHAM of a show...Cowell hasn't done himself any favours by being 'controversial' and backing the fat bird...my money is on a PUBLIC REVOLT this week and Mark McBland winning the lacklustre contest.
Anyway, if the figures stay the same it'll be a real treat seeing his moody old kipper on Saturday night.
I'm depressed that changes is still selling well though. The original Sabbath version was one of my fave songs for years and now I can't listen to it without thinking 'I love you daddy' ARRRGGGH

hey here's a crazy concept but lets hope the song with the most quality goes to no1 and not just the usual gimicky crap that saturates record shops this year,so here's hoping that its gary jules.

I can't wait to see Cowell served his hat. And you know he will be if it has anything to do with Ant and Dec. Wonder if he can rig the number 1?, he seems to be able to do just about anything these days.
Im happy for The Darkness to be top of the bill but must say my fav is Gary Jules. Fab song.
If we can get CD 1 out maybe a surge of christmas shoppers could get Will back up to the top spot?!!! Wishful thinking but hey we can all dream.

I hope The Darkness get it. This has been a truly shit year for music, and The Darkness have been one of few shining lights for me.

I'm just going to back away and try not to think of how Bo Selects got fourth place.

Because the video is a STROKE of genius...not to mention it's one of the best show's on the friggin' telly.
C'mon, we have an extremely popular daytime TV presenter (John Leslie, housewives favourite) accused of raping another prolific TV presenter (Ulrika Johnson)...whom was 'outed' as the then unknown rapist on LIVE national television - slip of the tongue you see - by yet another TV presenter (Matthew Wright).
Now, Wright is in a pink dress a la the Thriller video...MJ turns into alleged rapist John Leslie ("I'm not like other guys") and WHAM the actual song is only just kicking in.
The real SCARY SPICE cavorts with Merrion's version of SCARY SPICE - a repugnant man-eater riddled with anal sores/piles and a penchance for shagging anything that moves...she also sniffs her own underwear in one sketch and remarks "Mmmmm crab paste"!!!
I have NO idea how they set this one up, and WHY the vast array of British celeb's actually agreed to it...but Jesus, it's a blinder, and if you haven't actually SEEN an entire show I imagine it'd be difficult to comprehend.
Anyway, I'll be buying the CD for the vid' alone.

Chris (The Rev') and Sam (The Rocker) have bags of potential...the rest are down the swanny, and that includes Fatty and Cheesemeister Mark.

I do agree on the Mark thing. He is of course a local boy, and the extensive coverage of the guy down here is proving he really isn't that interesting or talented.

THE DARKNESS amazed fans with a breakfast signing session in LONDON today (December 19).
The band turned up at 9.30am at the HMV Oxford Street store to sign copies of their single ‘Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)’, which is leading the battle to be this year’s festive Number One.
The band announced they would arrive at the store on a horse-drawn carriage, and would be welcomed by The Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College Choir.
Hundreds of fans managed to get to the store in time to meet their heroes.
The 2004 Christmas Number One will be announced this Sunday (December 21).

In the U.S., for the week ending December 27th, it's Hey Ya! by Outkast (three weeks at #1 so far).
Last year it was Lose Yourself by Eminem.

The video's on the CD? I'm so gonna buy it now. I simply must own it for the sheer personal viewing pleasure.
I can imagine, in years to come, when Will Young is still somewhere in the charts (roundsabouts #346) with Leave Right Now (that was for you PiP), I'll be sitting in a old folks' home, clutching the CD case to my chest and watching the video, murmuring "So excited you might wee... Oh shit, I just did".
Albums
Will Young - 87,936
If it weren't for moi, that figure would read 87,935 - yes people, I've finally bought the album! And, blimey, what a frigging stonker. Though I seem to be having some probs playing it on my (admittently cheap and very shitty) CD player and also my computer. But, fear not, I'm braving the Crimbo crowds and going out (yes, outside. Exterior. The World Out There. It exists) to get a new fancy-dancy CD player. I might even be persuaded to fork out in excess of £19.99 for it. Yes, you hear me right there.

Commiserations to The Darkness who put up a good fight but in the end Gary Jules was a worthy winner and can only boost the profile of one particular movie namely Donnie Darko.

thank gawd a decent song at crimbo number 1 for once instead of all that novelty nonesense, and what made it even more sweeter was that it beat the darkness who's tune sounded like near enough everything else they have done ,and the set of freaks and weirdo's that made up this years pop idol final.
