Plot Summary: When Tom Baker (Martin) gets a job offer to coach football at Northwestern University in Chicago, he and his wife, Mary (Hunt), move to the big city, which is a big change for them and their 12 children, who range from preschool-age twins Kyle and Nigel all the way up to 22-year-old Anne (Perabo) who has already left home. With the recent publication of her long-in-the-works book, Mary feels demands outside the home taking away as much time as Tom's new job does, so the two are forced to try to find new ways of parenting their massive tribe, but they find their parenting styles aren't always completely compatible.

No way I'll see it. I don't want to support this film or tell the industry that I support them making films like this.

Fuck this movie, I have better things to do with my life than watch a bunch of dysfunctional brats run around and cause trouble for ninety minutes.

Phone call from Steve Martin, it's death he says he's coming for your career. Seriously, Steve Martin has had the worst taste in scripts lately and with Ashton Kutcher-Moore as his co-star, I don't see anyway that I want to spend 10 bucks on that.

Looks like a fucking monstrosity crapped up by retarded movie execs after brainfarting on the short bus while eating beans. Shame too, I'm a tremendous Steve Martin fan and it pisses me off to see such a cool guy get stuck in cat piss like Bringing Down the House, or what this looks to be.

Fucking hell! There's no way I would ever consider seeing this completely dreadful and horrible looking piece of shit film. The film industry deserves to burn for greenlighting trash like this.
Schmoes, let's send the film executives a message by boycotting this movie! Let's send them a message that we do not approve of these kind of awful looking films hitting our theaters! And while we're at it, let's send a message to Steve Martin as well. Let's send him a message to stop wasting his time and great talent with garbage like this!

This movie is based on the book with the same name. I read the book when I was younger, it was written a long time ago and is very cute and funny. However, this movie looks like a piece of crap, and nothing from the movie is the same as the book, save the title and number of kids.
-The family's name was "Gilbreth" in the book, not "Baker."
-There were no twins in the book.
-The names of the kids are completely different, save for Anne the oldest.
-The youngest child was a girl also.
-They lived in Montclair New Jersey, not Chi-town.
-There were actually only 11 kids in the book, because one of the oldest kids died when she was six.
Forget this movie. Rent the 1950 movie of the same name, which stays a lot truer to the book. It is a solid 8/10 flick.
*SPOLERS*
I bet the ending of this movie does not have the same ending as the book, when the patriarch dies suddenly on a business trip. It is probably a cheesy happy ending like every other kids' movie these days.
I actually saw this on a sneak preview and wasn't execting anything. But I enjoyed it.

Ebert and Roeper gave this two thumbs up!
And, unlike the trailer and commercials, the clips they showed were actually pretty amusing.
Maybe this won't be too bad afterall?

I'm being dragged by my 3 little cousins to see it tonight... wish me luck.
I don't know, it got ** out of ****, which isn't to bad for the Denver Post since they only give oscar caliber movies *** or **** stars (Cold Mountain, Big Fish, etc.) I might actually enjoy it... who knows.
What I DO know is that Tom Welling is totally hot and I would pay $7 just to see him any day :) (why yes, I am an average 19 year old girl, thanks for asking)

Ok i dont think this movie looks half bad. Hilary Duff and Piper Perabo are very hot and Piper Perabo can actually pull off a decent perfomance sometimes. I finally saw BRing Down the House about 2 weeks ago and i was surprised. I thoguht it looked terrible but i actually enjoyed it. I'll probably see this sometime in the next week.
But I do agree Kutcher looks to b atrocious in this movie. He pisses me off. I would say i hate him but I thought My Bosses Daughter was fucking hilarious.

Are you guys expecting this to be the greatest movie ever? First off, its PG. Second, its a FAMILY COMEDY. Its not like the movie is meant to make people think its the best movie ever, its purely for entertainment. Also, whats with all the Steve Martin bashing? What, the guy cant do what he wants, he has to make strictly 'amazing' movies? He cant do something fun and something that most people will like and spend lots of money on, ala Bringing Down the House? Oh yeah, and how dare Ebert and Roper give it 2 thumbs up. I mean come on, why should they have their own tastes and like what they wanna like? I am totally appalled at people having their own free-will. Everyone should follow just one persons opinion and that would be that.
Im going to see this tommorow afternoon at the matinee with THE FAMILY (me mom and dad) and I know im going to enjoy it. Why? Because its Steve Martin, one of my favorite actors ever, and because I think it looks good.

It doesn't end that way. But it's a Christmas family movie, what do you expect. The book was based on a real family, the movie is a sitcom. But it's entertaining. The theatre I saw it in was packed and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I agree with you, Jackson, that this movie never claimed to be a great film that will stand the test of time as a work of cinematic art.
Should 8-10 year olds be expected to enjoy Lost in Translation? Should they be allowed to see Kill Bill? No and no. The movie is fun and entertaining. Personally, I think people who hate Ashton Kutcher will love him in this, since he's basicaly spoofing himself (supposedly his whole performance was ad-libbed). Steve Martin starred in one of the greatest comedies ever made (Planes, Trains and Automobiles), and for that I'm willing to watch his less than stellar performances. Yeah, it's probably a performance he could have phoned in. Bottom line, the movie entertains, doesn't take away too much of your time and leaves you on a happy note. That's all that it promises, and all it delivers. I'd rather watch CHEAPER thirty times than have to sit through MORVEN CALLAR again.

I saw it on Friday...(Was dragged to it with a Mormon family)
It wasn't horrible, it was just really average. There are so many kids around that you only remember 2 or 3 of them. I laughed at a bunch of things that nobody else did(like the wigger kids with lattes), and cringed when everyone was laughing. Most of the funny stuff actually came from an unlikely source, Ashton Kutcher.
I wish they'd make some family movies that actually try to be straight up funny and not pander to both the parents and kids with certain things.

Um...sort of breaking the mold here...but I thought this was a pretty damn good family movie. Steve Martin is certainly losing his touch for true comedy...but he isn't completely gone. Bonnie Hunt is great, actually...I think she's hilarious. Ashton Kutcher was making fun of himself...which was great. Tom Welling didn't play Clark Kent, and for that I applaud him. Hillary Duff WASN'T annoying, and for that I applaud her. Piper Perabo was good. All the little kids were funny in that wacky sort of way. It had some great moments, and of course a few stinkers. I'm afraid to say it but I gave this movie a...

I saw it today. It was actually pretty entertaining. I was surprised at how funny Ashton Kutcher was, and how even though he was a big character, his name was never mentioned in any advertising or even the credits for that matter.

By far the worst 2003 film I've seen. Where to begin...?
Well, I've never read the book, or seen the original movie, but I can tell you that this is a piece of garbage. It basically follows a cheap sitcom plot and is filled with the same old jokes we've seen a zillion times before. I never even cracked a smile during this whole thing. I couldn't believe Steve Martin. He didn't do a single thing for me in this trainwreck. Same goes for the talented Bonnie Hunt. This is basically just a way of stealing money from the American public with trendy stars and one-hit wonder tunes. This is just a complete mess. Awful screenplay, no laughs, no real love or charm.
Wanna know how to make a good family film for 2003? Skip this rehash, and see School of Rock or Holes instead--movies that respect their audiences and give them interesting ideas, stories, involving, unique characters with great dialogue and lots and lots of laughs...Cheaper by the Dozen has absolutely none of this.
