My predictions are pretty much spot-on for the weekend.
A little underestimated, though.
Jesus Christ, what shitty numbers! I was really close with LOTR, but the numbers for Mona Lisa are shocking. It will have good legs though. Overall, another shitty and disappointing weekend at the Box Office.
Here were my predictions:
LOTR: ROTK
Friday - 21.2 Million
Saturday - 24.8 Million
Sunday - 22 Million
Total - 68 Million
MONA LISA SMILE
Friday - 11.1 Million
Saturday - 13.3 Million
Sunday - 8.8 Million
Total - 33.2 Million
Maybe some people, like me, are avoiding the movies because they don't want to get sick. Maybe that's why the numbers are so low. Or maybe it's because a bunch of people are sick. Or maybe it's just because a good number of the movies suck. It's a shame to see Love Actually falling so fast though :(.

What, exactly, is so shocking about Mona Lisa's mediocre opening?
It doesn't have any more Oscar hype.
It's starting to get crowded this Christmas.
It doesn't have any real audiencial excitement for it.

I think that MONA LISA SMILE will have MAID IN MANHATTAN numbers. That film, which also got mediocre reviews, managed to soar through the Christmas season and make nearly $95 million. LORD OF THE RINGS should cross $100 million by tomorrow. Too bad for STUCK ON YOU and LOVE ACTUALLY :(. Both deserve much better box office.

Why Love, Actually? It's doing quite well.
Love Actually deserved to do better. It deserved to stay in the top 10 throughout the holidays, and deserved to expand more. I don't think it was ever in over 1,800 theaters. After the big drop the horrible weekend after Thanksgiving, it sadly continued to not hold up so well.

Because it has Julia Roberts, and looks like something that audiences would eat up. Plus, there's not much competition, not from anything big anyway, mainly only Something's Gotta Give. It will have good legs, but should have seen a better opening.

I knew Mona Lisa Smile wasn't going to be big. With ROTK's competition, and with that smell of "been there, done that" the trailer had, the bad reviews and the lack of any hype around it, only Julia Roberts could have saved it from a bomb. And that's the main reason why it isn't even lower.

ROTK wasn't really direct competition for it. And I don't think looking like Mona Lisa had been done before stopped it from making more. It's not like it's been done a lot. It was somewhat with Dead Poets, and to a lesser extent, last years pretentious piece of shit Emperor's Club, but that's about it. Maybe a few others, but that still shouldn't have stopped it from making money. Tons of movies aren't very original and have been done before, yet make a lot of money.

I'm not surprised for MLS's low grosses. It may have Julia Roberts in it, but it can't always the movie from scoring low. Like others have said, it never really had a lot of oscar buzz, or a large group of people wanting to see it. I'm kinda glad, since I can't stand Julia Roberts or Julia Styles

Too bad for MONA LISA SMILE. It actually dropped from Friday, which is never a good sign. Oh well, Julia's one misstep in a career of hits.

Dropped from Friday?
Dizamn, bad luck that would be, if next weekend wasn't Christmas.

Dude, enough. Especially after hearing about rotting corpses and such.
Back to movie talk...
Mona Lisa will drop about 45% or more after Christmas.
