View Full Version : Emails Between Me and an Idiot

GrimKnife101

I posted a "It's not True" paragraph explanation on a TCM thread on a horror AOL message board. I got an email from this girl, who's sn I will keep secret(if u want it IM me/email me for it at LPSims246 or LPSims246@aol.com). I will be posting the things I said back:
She said:"It is based on real events, and the stuff that they show in the beginning of the movie when it's black and white, That footage is real. It is based on real things! Why don't you get it through your head and process it!!

IT
IS
BASED
ON
REAL
FOOTAGE!!"

I replied:"No, that footage is NOT real. It's based on crimes of Ed Gein, a Wisconsin farmer who killed women, and kept their remains and made them into furniture and carpet and wallcoverings. The footage is NOT real."

She Replied:"The footage is real. If it was based on whatever you said before then why didn't they say that?? Oh, You know why? Because it is real footage, and it's not about that. It is based on TRUE EVENTS. It even said it on the commercial and it says it at the end of the movie. If you want to change the past then so be it, but Hun, You don't know what you're talking about."

God, why on Earth did u have to put STUPID people on it!?!??!?!Okay, I enjoyed the remake and everything, but it's caused total idiots and vulnerable shits to think that they're the complete experts on TCM!

Hun is reserved for Atilla.

I've made many people (mostly women) really sad when I tell them the truth about TCM... of course there's always the fight over "I know this girl who knows this dude, who went to highschool with a kid whose mailman's son was killed by the REAL Leatherface"

Whatever man, and I know someone who woke up in a bathtub full of ice with staples in my back and "CALL 911" written in lipstick on the mirror

People like to say that we live in an advanced age, that women are now able to do things they would never do before....I say clearly, that in an age when people tend to think women's lib is alive and well and living topless I say that now, without reservation, women are DUMBER than they ever were before.

This little anecdote(cripes I think I spelled that wrong) shows once again the not only the naiveness of the movie going audience - but the bubble younger women live in filled with Julia Roberts, Britney Spears, cell-phones with soap opera themed rings, water-bras, Dr.Phil books on tape, designer cologne, silicone tits, and those felt-car seat covers with the word "Princess" on the front. Damn girl; how could you be so stupid?

... *GULP* ... I'm afraid. I'm afraid to look further.
Do you know how long it took me to find this site? I was typing in 'joeblow' with one hand, and I went crosseyed and didn't realize I typo'd "JOBLO" instead. By the time I pressed ENTER, I ended up here. Since I like movies, I thought I might as well explore (and look for naked ladies). I didn't find what I was looking for, but instead I found something that I never want to lose.

I went and saw TCM with a good friend of mine who loves horror movies (good man). The next day he said, "The thing that gets me is that this it's based on a true story."
Then I started to say the same thing; it's based on Ed Geins, the same guy that PSYCHO, AMERICAN PSYCHO and several other horror movies are based on, etc, etc, etc...

He didn't buy it at first. A few minutes later, he stopped talking.

I still wonder if he knows the truth or not. hm. I don't know if he does. Nevermind the conversation I had with him and another friend at the same time when I said that FARGO isn't based on a true story. They jumped down my throat at the same time. I told them to just watch the documentaries on the DVD, but they don't own it. Oh well. *sigh*

People need to learn that all movies, no matter how realistic, are complete fiction. They always take the whole "Based On A True Story" line waaaaayyyy to seriously.

They could have slapped the "True Story" line in front of TERMINATOR 3, and I can guarantee you there would have been a horrifying percentage of the audience who would fall for it. (NOTE: In this case, I would consider anything greater than 0% to be horrifying.)

Good lord, people are stupid!

Except for me.

I hate people who say this is a true story just because the poster claims it is.

Although, having said that, I often tell non-horror people it really happened to get them to watch it, then explain the details after it :)

And when I say "watch it", I refer to the original of course... not that other dirty piece of shit.

People are dumb. Put "Based on a True Story" before a Looney Tunes or Star Wars film. I'd wager a good 10% would fall for it.

Say what now?

TCM isn't a true story? Sorry fellas, but I believe that you all have it wrong. While the first TCM was based loosely on the Sawyer family, the remake is an exact retelling of events that occurred.

Yes.

I am kidding.

I agree with the guy who said to "destroy her anyway."

If a trailer says "based on true events" or "based off a true story" guess what . . . I think it's based on true events or a true story! I'll be damned! I'm not gullible or stupid (don't make me flaunt my intellect yo'), it's just in the heat of the moment, during the trailer, I shrug it off and go "All right". I think everyone's getting a little carried away . . .

. . . but saying you were stupid and dumb, grim, was ridiculous.

So come on. If I see a trailer fo seabiscut that says "based on a true story" then if someone mentions it I'll say "That was based off a true story you know." If it turns out I'm wrong, oh well.

I'm not reffering to any of you schmoes or anything, because the majority of responses are probably aimed at the fact that this girl refused to believe grim even after she was corrected and actually insisted that she was right because "the movie said so". That's a little dumb (even moreso by calling him stupid) . . .

As I sat here reading these posts on this girl that was convinced TCM was real another film popped into my head....

The Blair Witch Project. Remember when this little film first came out? Hell they even did a damn documentary type thing on a TV spot about this film on the SciFi network. Jes' about everyone was convinced that this was a "true story".

Even though I was one of the smart one's and figured it out ;) I say this often as the first time I saw that movie I was in stiches at the audiences reaction to it. I saw it a second time with a friend and had her fully convinced that everything she was seeing really happened. She about shit her pants while watching the film then after it was all said and done I told her it wasn't really a "true story".

My point? Oh yeah I'm getting to that, sorry for sidetracking, but sometimes it makes a movie more enjoyable beleiving that it is real. The first time one views it anyway then once the truth comes out that it didn't really happen or it was based on something that did.

Then again it can backfire and turn into a bad thing where there will always be someone that thinks it is a true story. Like the TCM and sware that it is true until their dying day or until someone finally shows them the light. Contrary to popular beleif the light, doesn't always burn.

I know this girl who was like, "My dad used to work for this place in Travis County, and you know where that Round Rock Dragons water tower is (I indeed do, I live in Travis County)? Well over behind there is where all the chainsaw murders were."

Just makes you wonder in disbelief if these people really believe what their saying, or if it just sounds so believable that they feel the need to spread it like wildfire.

I'll tell you what I've learned, and had reinforced time and time again... most people are complete morons. Some give the illusion of intelligence, but a majority of them, like me for instance, are simply fooling the rest into believing that they are indeed competent.

Hell, most people cannot figure out how to get exactly 4 gallons of water when you have only a 3 gallon & a 5 gallon bucket. Like me for instance, again. A little help please? The city of NY may depend on it.

BTW, Simon Sez, Ted Danson once threw his hotdog down Whoopi Goldberg's hallway.

Truly disturbing... and, as such, quite horrific... hence the relevance to this message board.

Great!

I dunno why but i love it when u know your right but something insists your not and tells you that "YOU dont know what you're talking about"

Always rewarding to turn around and wipe the smile off their face by proving you're right.

Seems worth it though if you also got a new friend in the process.

My cousin was crying coming out of this film, she rang me up and asked was it real, of course I told her it was but it really happened in London (where she lives) and they changed it to Texas, she got worse and her mother is mad at me. I don't know why the movie had any effect on her, she was fine watching the original.

I was just watching TALES FROM THE CRYPT PRESENTS: DEMON KNIGHT (based on an actual event), and I was wondering, has anyone ever met the real Cryptkeeper?

I've been roaming the country for years, trying to find his creepy mansion, but every time I've asked for help people just stare at me like I've grown several vaginas on my face. Weird.

All I know his, he's been causing terrible things to happen to people all over the world, and making little stories about them, and frankly, I'm terrified that he might do the same to me, or someone I love.

Needless to say, the Cryptkeeper's reign of terror must be put to an end!
