I was reading that Spiderman 2's budget is slated to be around $210 million dollars. Wow, I never thought that it would cost that much to make, but then again, I'm just a schmoe :D Also I heard the next Harry Potter movie has $200 mil+ in the budget.

Speaking of big budgets, The Movie Times lists Titanic as number 1 with $200 million. Believe or not, Wild Wild West came in 2nd at $170 million.... yeeech. Waterworld did not make there list, probably because it was a box office flop. Didn't Waterworld costs go way overbudget and end up costing around $200 mil?

well according to boxofficemojo.com, WATERWORLD cost $175 million and grossed $88 million.

TITANIC did cost $200 million.

I heard that the budget for SPIDER-MAN 2 is $220 million.
I don't know what Harry Potter's budget is, but I would believe whatever number someone throws out.

According to this (http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/records/budgets.html), here is a budget list by most expensive:

Biggest Budgets

1 12/19/1997 Titanic 20th Century Fox $200,000,000

2 5/19/2000 Dinosaur Buena Vista $200,000,000

3 6/30/1999 Wild, Wild West, The Warner Bros. $175,000,000

4 7/28/1995 Waterworld Universal $175,000,000

5 7/1/2003 Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Warner Bros. $170,000,000

That is a huge-ass budget and I hope they use it for better visuals than the first.

I included the link that I got the information from, and on the main page it has this disclaimer:

Taken from this site (http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/records/budgets.html)

Note: Budget numbers for movies can be both difficult to find and unreliable. Studios often try to keep the information secret and will use accounting tricks to inflate or reduce announced budgets.

The data we have is, to the best of our knowledge, accurate but there are gaps and disputed figures. If you have additional information or corrections, please let us know at data@the-numbers.com.

Hope that helps.

Not necessarily. There is also the marketing budget to consider post-production, that oughta be a pretty penny too.

I'd guess it's also worth mentioning that if the WB ever manage to make their superman movie I'd assume it will have the biggest budget ever, hell they've spent $30-40M on it already or so I read, and they haven't got a single frame of footage yet.

Also it's hard to say what the biggest budgeted film ever is due to inflation, which means it is difficult to say how much big budget films from previous eras (Metropolis, You only live twice, etc.) would cost in today's money.

It sounds like it will have to make in the 450 million dollar range before it starts to make a profit (figure 50 million for marketing, and the studio gets 60% of the gross). I expect it will do that much.

It's also worth noting for big films like this, the dvd will make as much/more than the cinema release

Heaven's gate cost between $35-50 million (The studio said 35 but others said they reduced it to save face) in 1980 money. This would be well north of $100M with the effect of inflation added.

So Spidey 2's budget is that big, huh?

I guess it's just too bad that, from the trailer, it looks set to suck even worse than the horrible original.

How much did Raimi get out of that 200 mill?

So much money on one single movie..... Give it to me! I'll invest it in something worth more attention than one of the Spider-Man movies!

I don't know for a fact, but I'd guess he got little up front, instead taking a % of the gross.
