Thora Birch has some of the most jizzable melons in Hollywood true, but in the film she is a dysfunctional teenager who thinks she is not beautiful. That is why she hangs out with Mena Suvari, because in her reasoning, Suvari is beautiful...meanwhile, near the end of the film and throughout, we and she both come to realize that Suvari is ugly on the inside and Birch is beautiful on the inside, not to mention her outside. Ricky Fitts/Wes Bentley is the catalyst for this change in events that allow Thora's character to feel good about herself, just as her father is doing...the film is about continuous change...

Have you ever read the first script? It's the one with Ricky and Jane on trial for committing murder. Ricky's dad turns over the video tapes and they get arrested, ect.
Do you think they could make a successful sequel about the aftermath? I think it's a good idea, but I don't know if they could pull it off. It would be really hard to measure it up to the original.

Rindy...that's a tough question. Personally I don't see the point of a sequel or even that it could be possible. "American Beauty" is a one-shot wonder that is best being the original and only one. I mean, that would be like making "Boogie Nights 2: Electric Bugaloo", "Reservoir Dogs 2" or "Apocalypse Now 2". Some films are impossible to make sequels too, and if someone did, it would be a travesty. I haven't read the original script, but how many times could they kill Lester Burnham? I mean, the original was about him and he died. Would they kill him again in the sequel to get to the trial? Would they watch the bag flying around in the court video evidence again? I mean, I just think it would be a very bad idea to mess with it...
