Uma was the best of the batch, but JLC and Watts are due their first noms ever.

I heard Miss Theron's performance is pure awesomeness. But, as far as i'm concerned, Uma Thurman REALLY deserves it.

Watts is my favorite of the year so far, but I still need to see a few more of those that have the potential to best her performance.

BTW, Scarlett Johansson is being pushed Supporting for Lost in Translation and will most likely be nominated there.

Well, I haven't seen Monster yet, but I've heard nothing but incredible things about Charlize Theron's performance. But so far, Naomi Watts is my pick. My favorite performance of the year.

Other; Rachel Weisz deserves a nod for her brilliantly evil performance in THE SHAPE OF THINGS.

My top 3 from that list:

1) Naomi Watts in 21 GRAMS
2) Samantha Morton in IN AMERICA
3) Evan Rachel Wood in THIRTEEN

Didn't see MONSTER yet but advanced press would lead me to believe that Charlize is excellent, too.

You know, I'm seeming really indecisive to myself right now, but this was another one that split me. When I first walked out of 21 Grams I thought Watts gave the best female performance of the year. But the more I think about it, the more I'm opting for my former choice, so until I see both again, I'm gonna say Uma Thurman.

Nicole Kidman in Dogville

Best performance of her career IMO, I was proud.

As of now, a tie between Evan Rachel Wood and Keisha Castle-Hughes

Haven't seen House Of Sand and Fog, Monster, Cold Mountain, or In America yet

Although I think Charlize Theron's performance is easily the most memorable. I'd give it to Naomi Watts. Nicole Kidman is good, but not great in Dogville. But then again, I don't think she's ever been great.

I think Uma Thurman should be nominated but in all honesty she won't be, which sucks.

Other...Cate Blanchett for Veronica Guerin

Uma Thurman-Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Cate Blanchett-Veronica Guerin
Naomi Watts-21 Grams
Scarlet Johansson-Lost in Translation
Samantha Morton-In America

These would be my 5 nominations at this point...I have yet to see Monster though. Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Connelly and Diane Keaton almost made it...but so far these 5 performances have been the most standout to me. Uma Thurman will probably get passed over for more serious roles, but there was something very truthful and urgent about her performance. Tarantino obviously brings out the best in her! Cate Blanchett gives such a stunning performance that I'm really sorry she is gonna be overlooked because Veronica Guerin is all but forgotton cause hell nobody saw it! Naomi Watts is stunning in 21 Grams and gave the best performance in the film...I would have picked her 2 years ago for Mulholland Dr. and this year I think she has a chance...Scarlet Johansson was such a pleasure in LiT and one of the brightest and sexiest young talents going today bar none. Samantha Morton held together that film so well but likely will be passed over for a more popular choice like Kidman.

Cate Blanchett, The Missing
Nicole Kidman, Cold Mountain
Rachel Weisz, The Shape of Things
Annette Bening, Open Range
Renee Zellweger, Down With Love

I voted for Nicole but I think Cate was better. Still need to see Lost in Translation, 21 Grams, and others.

I'm going for Nicole Kidman in Cold Mountain.

I haven't seen Kill Bill vol 1 yet. Is Uma's acting that good in it or is it the fact she beats some serious ass that is getting her votes?

Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, Vol. 1
Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday
Samantha Morton in In America

I find it hard to believe that Uma Thurman is anything special in Kill Bill. I can't imagine her having much to do or say in it. But I guess I'll know when I see it.

She has PLENTY to do AND say...and she's VERY special when all is said and done.

I'd reserve judgement if I were you...

Ditto. It's really a masterful performance - rarely do people consider the pure physical aspect of the role when judging someone's acting. She doesn't have many Meryl Streep Sophie's Choice moments, but the physical skill and sheer presence, as well as perfect tone for her character, makes Uma's performance outstanding.

I wasn't saying she wasn't for sure, and I even said that I'd know when I saw it, but from the ads she didn't look all that special, and barely even talked. I didn't say that everyone was wrong when they said her, I'm just surprised her performance is actually THAT good, since it didn't look like it would be.

Charlize Theron

Just the fact that she turned ugly for this role is enough for me. I'm waiting for the movie to be shown where I live. She's been in too many lesser roles in less than good movies for too long.

Basically an edit to my post from earlier...Charlize Theron deserves a nomination and quite frankly to win...although I didn't completely love the film as a whole...her performance is the best of the year...brave and mesmerizing from Theron. I've always liked her as an actress...eventhough she has never been more than a stunning beauty from S. Africa.

Monster definately changes all that and you can tell how much she was committed to this role...her acceptance speech at the Critics Choice awards was really sweet and heartfelt and here's hoping she takes it home in late February.

It should be a walkaway for Charlize.

I'm very interested in seeing THIRTEEN and MONSTER to see the performances of Evan Rachel Wood and Charlize Theron, and gathering from the latter I can already tell i'm impressed after the transformation. Uma Thurman was great in KILL BILL, but I have also recently seen 21 GRAMS and Naomi Watts was bloody phenomenal, and i'll be very happy to see her walk away a winner. Thurman, Theron or Watts are my picks.

Preach it!!!

She was amazing in this movie. Id say she should win a landslide but then Monster had to rear its head. It should go down to both ladies and while I have yet to see Monster, I cant see it touching me like 21 Grams. Naomi put fourth an emotional charge that I have not seen in a long time. Its been a week and I still cant get moments from this movie out of my head.

Damn! I just caught MONSTER...Charlize better start memorizing her Oscar speech! Uma is still my sentimental fave, but I would be happy for both Theron or Naomi Watts if they take home the Golden Boy that night.
