Zellweger's got the edge (God forbid!), but either Harden or Lohman deserves it in my opinion. In the end, I voted for Ali L. simply because her performance was the most heartbreaking of the year.

Hope Davis! Hope Davis! Hope Davis! She was incredible in American Splendor. And if not her, then either Charlotte Gainsbourg or Melissa Leo for 21 Grams.

My top 3 from that list:
1) Geraldine McEwan in THE MAGDALENE SISTERS
2) Patricia Clarkson in THE STATION AGENT
3) Renee Zellweger in COLD MOUNTAIN

I was very surprised by her performance. Worthy of a nod.

This is the only acting award I'm pretty solid on. I think the best I've seen this year is Karin Anna Cheung in Better Luck Tomorrow.

Without a doubt, Renee Zellweger. Great performance.

Eileen Walsh as Crispina in The Magdalene Sisters
Patricia Clarkson. I've seen all four of her films this year. I'm convinced that she's the quintessential supporting actress.

Marcia Gay Harden is an amazing actress so I picked her, but I'm wondering about Shohreh Aghdashloo and her chances.

Maria Bello in The Cooler. The girl can act. I wonder why she isn't in that many movies.

I know this is the easy choice since she's owned the Oscar since January, but so far I have to go with Renee. Haven't seen much good competition for her so far. Other than her I'd say Anna Faris in May.

I voted for Hope Davis, but Renee also gave a great performance in Cold Mountain, considering I've never really liked her as an actress before seeing that movie last night.
Marcia Gay Harden, Catherine O'Hara, and Patricia Clarkson (The Station Agent) were very good as well in their respected films.

Alison Lohman in Matchstick Men. Too bad the buzz on the film ran out of steam.

Same here. It's still my favorite movie of the year, next to RotK and Cold Mountain.

Yeah, Alison did a great job. It's sad to see that such a great film like Matchstick Men is losing all of it's Oscar buzz.

I picked OTHER, and I'd have to go with Miranda Otto for THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING.
That said, I haven't seen any of the films in the poll

Alison Lohman-Matchstick Men
Keira Knightley-Bend It Like Beckham
Renee Zellweger-Cold Mountain
Emma Bolger-In America
Miranda Otto-The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
These would be my 5 nominations right now...I think Zellweger is a lock, but the other 4 don't have much of a chance, which is a shame because Lohman is a great young talent who I just love and Emma Bolger's performance in In America was so wonderful and to me the standout. Same with Keira Knightley...what a great debut year for this girl...I just dig her to no end and loved her in BILB...as for Miranda Otto she has little chance...but I just love this girl and frankly I would like to see LOTR get some acting nominations and once again she was excellent in ROTK.

Miranda Otto, Return of the King
Renee Zellweger, Cold Mountain
Glenn Close, The Safety of Objects
Amanda Peet, Identity
Patricia Clarkson, The Safety of Objects
I voted for Renee but IMO Otto edges her out but she's not on the list. There's still a lot of supp actress contenders I need to see.
Miranda for RETURN OF THE KING. She should have been on the list.

Renee Zellweger in COLD MOUNTAIN
I am usually not a big fan of her work but she totally took me by surprise in that movie.

I think you are mistaking good acting with who you want to sleep with. And I admit, she was cute.
