Slipping 40% in its second week wasn't enough for THE RETURN OF THE KING to be dethroned as it powered on with $7,686,250. After only 2 weeks the critically acclaimed epic has conjured up an impressive $26,671,665 (US $290,318,665), garnering it the #24 spot on the All Time Aussie chart. Debuting surprisingly high, considering its competition, was the final installment of the SPY KIDS series, GAME OVER. Opening with over a Million more than Spy Kids 2 and 2.5 Million more than the original, the Robert Rodriguez family flick took to the second spot with $2,907,592 (US $31,648,876). Down to 3, but only just, was last week's other major release LOVE ACTUALLY which added an extra $2,847,753 to its name. The British romantic comedy has a very nice total, so far, of $9,648,845 (US $105,026,806). Debuting lower than I expected, but still with an admirable intake, was The Rock's rumble in WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE with $2,185,816 (US $23,792,409). Rounding out the Top 5 was the other major release for this week, Oscar potential drama COLD MOUNTAIN starring Nicole Kidman, Jude Law and Renee Zellweger. The Miramax production pocketed $1,856,976 (US $20,213,016) in its first week. Rising 13% in takings was BROTHER BEAR which managed $1,181,586 this past weekend, taking the Disney flicks two week total to $3,488,849 (US $37,975,806). Another Boxing Day opener which saw a rise was the Bill Murray dramedy LOST IN TRANSLATION. It was up 32% from last week and it made an additional $484,972, taking it to $1,376,438 (US $14,982,403). Also increasing, despite being in cinemas for 7 weeks now, was the Clint Eastwood drama MYSTIC RIVER which jumped up 10%. Perhaps all the Golden Globe talk and Oscar buzz helped it out. The Sean Penn starrer has made $3,519,386 (US $38,308,198). On the opposite side of things, ELF, SCHOOL OF ROCK and S.W.A.T. all took considerable falls. The Will Ferrell comedy was off 62% in its 6th week, the Jack Black charmer was down 58%, whislt the Colin Farrell actioner took the biggest fall, 79%. All the films will, however, go out with nice totals; $8,019,078 (US $87,286,940), $8,364,953 (US $91,051,758) and $7,978,330 (US $86,843,401) respectively.
THIS WEEK (January 8th): A little ditty about Jack and Diane kicks things off this week. The romantic comedy Something's Gotta Give co-starring Keanu Reeves and Amanda Peet takes to the screen with 'Flashdance'-ish Honey starring Jessica Alba, and the comedy remake CHEAPER by the DOZEN featuring Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Hilary Duff and Tom Welling, amongst others.

If Lord Of The Rings doesn't hold on for a third week, and if Return Of The King follows the suit of Fellowship... and Two Towers it's likely to drop the top spot, it'll be Something's Gotta Give that'll replace it as the Number 1 flick. The film has been marketed well, has a rather appealing cast, and director Nancy Meyers last film What Women Want was quite the success down here, managing $22,533,750.
