I am looking for a horror mag to subscribe to but i'm not sure whats good and whats out there. I used to read Fangoria but that is way too much $$$ for a magazine. So does anyone have any favorites mags out there that they have been following for a long time?

Pay the bucks to get the goods! Fangoria is probably the top rated horror magazine at the moment.

Rue Morgue looks good, I haven't read it myself, since it's not distributed all the way to Finland. I'd at least try it.

I've been reading Fangoria for close on 18 years now and it's still my favourite genre magazine (and I've tried most of 'em over the years - the only one that even came close was the now sadly defunct Gorezone :(, which was from the same publishers and contributors anyway! )

Other decent reads are Dark Side and Rue Morgue.

Rue Morgue is heads and tails above Fangoria and all others I've seen IMO.

Fangoria got too damn expensive to me and It was indeed a sad day when GoreZone stopped being made, I totally loved that magazine. I occasionally look at the others but I never buy them because they do not attract me much. I do read Video Watchdog because I am a big time movie renter and they cover all genre's.

It depends on what you're looking for in a horror mag. Fango is centered on current/upcoming horror, while Rue Morgue is more inclined to glance back to yesteryear. They're both worthwhile. I subscribe to Fango, and I buy Rue Morgue on the newsstands. Arrow has reviewed one or two burgeoning mags that seem like fun reads (check the bottom of the reviews page). Vampirella is a spanking-new publication devoted to genre literature and comic books. I have the premiere issue, but have yet to read it.

Ïf you speak french ( which is my mother tongue, btw ) I strongly recomand you the oustanding MadMovies.
It is a very complete french magazine about the horror genre but not just about this genre but also but animes and films from Asia, very very good.

The Dark Side is way better than anything else currently on the market. There's a diversity in terms of the genre ground covered both in terms of articles and interviews that other magazines with their more contemporay angle don't come close to. It's DVD section has over the course of the last year grown and now accounts for a significant number of pages in each issue. The ongoing Dark Side Horror Guide (an A-Z review of horror movies that has in it's time covered everything from the most obscure 1950's b-movies to the very latest mainstream genre releases) is always a great read. It's coverage of festivals is second to none. The magazines publishers are also responsible for publishing a series of genre related books covering zombie movies, video nasties, fantasy females, Amicus film studio and giallo cinema. If you are unaware of this particular magazine then I urge you to check out the website.

I don't really like any horror magazines. Fangoria is alright but the price puts me off.

I recently read Rue Morgue for the first time from recommendations from an email horror list and must say I was very impressed. The articles were good, a lot of horror was covered in dvds, books, movies, comics, ect. Very worhty read.

I also enjoy fango but havent read in like a year. Shame on me

I used to get Dark Side a few years ago but for some reason just stopped. Having checked out the website, though, I think I'll give it another go, along side Fango. Cheers for the link Psychocandy! :)
