1-The Crow: City Of Angels
2-Beethoven's 2nd
3-Alien 3
4-M. Butterfly
5-Tequila Sunrise
6-The Fan
7-The Baby Of Macon
8-Zandalee
9-Free Willy
10-Raising Cain

Veers,
I'm with you on Tequila Sunrise and Raising Cain. Both of these movies were very entertaining, and John Lithgow does a very good 'bad' guy. He's the reason I like Ricochet so well, even though his performance is a little over the top.

I know everyone on the board likes this movie, but everyone I know outside of this tiny space on the web hates "Fight Club". I love that freaking movie.
They just don't get it.

HomerS: people really give you a hard time about those movies? For the most part they seem to be pretty popular choices to me.
HomerSimpson
03-03-2001, 12:11 PM
Well, let's see:
Airplane! - nobody really gives me a hard time for it but nobody can believe it's in my top 10
Dark City - not really, although it's severely underrated
Dumb and Dumber - absolutely, you have no idea how much shit i've gotten because I love that movie
Naked Gun 1, 2 and 3 - kinda like Airplane!
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - yeah, because it's my favorite Indy and NOBODY agrees with me on that
Austin Powers and Rounders - nope, but they're underrated too
Men in Black - yeah, very often
I guess mine was more of an "under-rated films" list.
Here's a more accurate list (in no order):
Dumb and Dumber
Indy Jones and the Temple of Doom
Men in Black
Sphere
The Lost World (my favorite guilty pleasure)
Dirty Work
Mission to Mars
Arlington Road
Deep Blue Sea
Mafia!
BASEketball
...that's all I can think of for now

HomerS: no offense but are you fuckin' serious?!?! You think Temple of Doom is better than Raiders of the Lost Ark? Please explain that one.

There's not much to explain - I think Temple of Doom is a more entertaining film. Raiders of the Lost Arc is the better film. However, Temple is my favorite - there's a diffrence between favorite and best.

Yo Nightdude, I love Pumpkinhead, Lance Henrikson (sp?) is a very, very underated and under utilised actor.

hey Homer, does that make you feel better when Roger Ebert agrees with you about a movie?

03-05-2001, 07:40 PM
Of cource it does. He's my favorite critic and I value his opinion more than any other critic's (sorry Jo).

OK. Just wondering. How about the show? Do you like the new guy or do you miss Siskel?
HomerSimpson
03-05-2001, 08:20 PM
Uh, well... actually, I've never seen the show when it was with Siskel... I'm kinda of a new Ebert fan, and a new fan of movies alltogether so I can't really answer that...
Roeper is OK, he's got a shitty taste in movies, but I don't really care as long as Ebert's there.

Everytime my bud is losin' an argument with me, he says "What about the frogs?", 'cause I loved "Magnolia" and he could not understand or even begin to comprehend the frogs dropping from the sky, so he just makes fun of me by saying that /ubb/wink.gif just like Hannibal asking Clarice about "the lambs"...

However, i'm thinking you must never have had any 'street cred' when you like a movie like BEETHOVENS 2ND, i'm laughing as i write this. I thought people would take the piss out of me cos i like THE KARATE KID, but DAMN!!!! What are you?! a ten year old girl?!! LOL!

Most people don't even remember this movie, but I must have watched it 20 or 30 times in my younger years- Short Circuit 2. I love when he becomes "evil" and wears the leather vest an mohawk...classic.

"The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the Eighth Dimension". High-octane cheese with a stellar cast. What's not to like?
"Shakes the Clown". The "Citizen Kane" of alcoholic clown movies.
"Mars Attacks!" I get so much grief for liking this film. I think it's hysterically funny.
"Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" Steve Martin intercut with Bogie, Bacall, Cagney, et. al. in the silliest film noir spoof of all time. You have to give them points for figuring out how to create a plotline out of the scenes they borrowed from all of those classic noir films.
"Popeye" I can finally admit that this one sucks, but it is still an absolute guilty pleasure of mine. Plus I love the fact that it was directed by Robert Altman.

I almost forgot.
"Ed Wood"
Apparently I'm one of about three people who loved this film.

falconfilms, a lot of people like Ed Wood (myself included), I give it 8/10 but I can't say I "loved" it.

03-22-2001, 06:58 PM
Hey, I also liked NBK and "Ed Wood".
"Alien 3" was, despite its flaws, a pretty decent movie. See the thread I started on the sci-fi board.
Finally, what does everyone make of the fact that "From Dusk Till Dawn" is my favorite 'guilty pleasure' movie? /ubb/wink.gif (So far, I only know one other guy who liked it.) I have not yet summoned up the nerve to actually purchase a copy... /ubb/frown.gif

Pearl Harbor
A Walk to Remember
Bringing Down the House
Scream 2
Friday the 13th
A Nightmare on Elm Street Part II
The Mothman Prophecies
From Dusk Till Dawn
Natural Born Killers
The Faculty
They're nowhere near my top 250 list but I still enjoy them.

THE LOST BOYS (Nun of my friends liked it. And they hate me for it)
WEIRD SCIENCE (My friends don't like that im an 80s freak, but some like it)

BETTER OFF DEAD (No one has really heard of it till now)
HALLOWEEN 4 (Not only do most of my friends not like horror, but they dont like 80s sequels)
POLTERGEIST 3 (No one has heard of this, and the ones who do HATE IT and Hate me for it)
TERMINATOR 2: (Probably liked by some. But the girls dont know why)
THE GOONIES (Probably most popular with my friends, which makes me reconsider why i like it so much)
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3 (To my friends its just another "Jason Krueger" movie)

A lot of the movies mentioned here I like as well (some notable exceptions are Friday the 13th and Natural Born Killers). So here are some that I enjoyed that haven't gotten the best reviews that haven't already been mentioned:
Eye of the Beholder - I think this is a near masterpiece I don't get why people hate this movie
The Adventures of Pluto Nash - I thought it was inventive and entertaining
Fair Game - What can I say? Cindy Crawford may not be much of an actress (although she's no worse than Billy Baldwin, the least talented of the Baldwin brothers) but she's damn hot and the action scenes are well executed and the movie is short and sweet. Definately a BIG guilty pleasure of mine :D
Most Van Damme & Seagal movies - I really enjoyed most of their movies. Some that I didn't like though are Knock Off, Street Fighter, On Deadly Ground, The Glimmer Man, Fire Down Below
The Stupids & Big Bully - Two poorly recieved Tom Arnold movies that I thought were hilarious
There is A LOT more but I continue later.

I try and have this professional taste for movies, but I admit there are quite a few movies that I love but no one else agrees with me on...
10 Things I Hate About You - 10/10
Shaft (with Samuel L. Jackson) - 9/10
Snake Eyes - 9/10
Zoolander - 9/10
Bring It On - 8/10
Drop Dead Gorgeous - 8/10
Miss Congeniality - 8/10
My Fellow Americans - 8/10
The Sandlot - 8/10
i also LOVE slasher flicks (Valentine, Urban Legends 1 and 2, etc.)

falconfilms, I guess I'm another one of the 3 people who loved Ed Wood. Quentin Tarantino would be the 3rd (it's in his top 100, if I remember correctly).
stevereno, I think most people do like Aliens, The Goonies, Heathers, and Terminator 2. Or at least the people I've talked to.
Anyway, the one film that I love that everyone else always says "You actually liked that movie?" to is The Thin Red Line. I love it, and it seems like everyone else hates it because "it makes no sense" or "it's too long and boring." Oh well. Martin Scorsese named it the #2 film of the 90s, so I guess I'm in good company.

It was nominated for Best Picture, so obviously a lot of people loved it... I do too, it's a 10/10, the best war film of the 90's.
