The man with the famous grin. Some ppl like him, some don't. By I for one, enjoy his work, and he seems like a nice guy. Some of his best roles are in Magnolia, Minority Report, Jerry Maguire, Rain Man etc, and he continues to be solid in every movie he stars in. The Last Samurai is opening in NZ on Thursday, and I am eagerly waiting to see that film!
Tom Cruise? A YAY!

Count me as one of those people who does NOT like him......at all.
To start off with, he's a short arse, grotesque, old dirty dwarf who USED to be cute.......once, but nowadays he looks rougher than a badger's arse, especially with all that mustache around him.
He's STILL a short arse in the sense that he gets by in Hollywood SIMPLY because of his CONSIDERED "good looks" ( )......I just don't get it! Oh, and his teeth scare me...
As for his "acting", I BEG to differ. I've seen his dreadful work, all of them in fact. The only ones that were effective: Jerry Maguire, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, Rain Man, and The Last Samurai. But even in those films he was practically playing himself, the only difference is that in those films he actually had some depth than in his other films.
In INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, he played the vampire Lestat, and made him seem like a kid with a Halloween costume on Halloween. When he throws a tantrum, he's also like a little spoiled brat who's mad at his parents for not giving him enough toys for Christmas. Otherwise, he just basically plays Tom Cruise, the man who has a good enough life, meets a girl, falls in love with girl, has problems, learns about life, excepts responsibility, etc. How could the chicks even want this kind of man who probably has a small dick as well....
Over and over and over again........oh SMITE me down with a samurai sword fer God's sakes and put me out of my frickin misery! Little Tommy Boy, I'm glad you divorced Nicole and now I beg for you to break up with Penelope Cruz, that chick deserves much better than you and your penis.
Oh yeah, you SUCKED in Top Gun too. Short arse!
NAY! NAY! NAY!

^ Agreed with the angry, articulate man above me.
I enjoyed TOP GUN, RISKY BUSINESS, RAIN MAN, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY, MINORITY REPORT, A FEW GOOD MEN, and even COCKTAIL. INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE was great.
I hated JERRY MACGUIRE and I was unimpressed with MAGNOLIA. But not enough to down the man's acting ability.
As for looks, he's not a bad looking guy. So he looks a bit older and rougher. Still not bad.
He also stops to hang out with the fans on the red carpet. He talks to their friends on cell phones, takes pictures, and is genuinely good to the people who got him there in the first place.
Great acting, good looks, nice guy. He gets a huge YAY from me.

I've enjoyed many movies by this good-looking actor. ( Top Gun, Vanilla Sky, A Few Good Men, Interview with the Vampire, and Risky Business........to name a few.)

He's been too good in too many amazing movies for me to rip the guy.
You can't deny the fact he's an excellent actor who chooses great roles.
Yay from me.

He chooses a lot of diverse roles and always puts in one hundred percent no matter what project he's working on. He was great in Jerry Maguire, Magnolia, Born on the Fourth of July, Interview with the Vampire, Rain Man and Vanilla Sky and deserved an Oscar for at least one of the first three. He's a bit fucked in the head with the Scientology stuff he pulls and I don't like watching him in interviews too much because he always seems uncomfortable and that makes me uncomfortable. But the man is very generous to fans and to charity and I like that about him. Its hard at times to seperate Tom Cruise, actor from Tom Cruise, movie star when I'm watching him on screen, but thats how it is when you're as famous as he is, and like Brad Pitt - he manages to display that his talent outweighs his good looks, fame and fortune. So a definite Yay, he's really one of my favorite actors working today.

Not exactly the greatest actor in the world, but one of my favourites. Yay.

Decent enough actor who, IMO, gets too much flak because he's Hollywood's biggest star. Top Gun is a guilty pleasure of mine, and he's also a noted philanthropist. So, Yay.

One of my favorites in the business. Picks fantastic projects, and the guy's a great actor. No one can say he can't act unless they haven't seen Born On The Fourth Of July. Yay.

Proven that he can pick great roles like A Few Good Men and Minority Report and also lame ducks like Eyes Wide Shut and Interview with a Vampire .
Yay.

EYES WIDE SHUT a lame duck? Ah, come on, it's the best film of the respective year and one of the best of the decade, if you ask me (or: Martin Scorsese).
A YAY from me, cause even though he made some horrible movies in the past with wooden performances by him (COCKTAIL), he has matured into an ambitious performer, who given the chance, is as good as any major star out there. He's not a great character actor, mind you, but a brilliant type actor, varying his own persona to dazzling effects: JERRY MAGUIRE and MAGNOLIA.

Yay man. A sometimes very misunderstood actor.

I think he's often underrated just because he happens to be the biggest movie star in the world.
And lately, he's had to take a lot of crap for his odd behavior, which admittedly is a lot on him, but nevertheless he doesn't deserve most of this negative publicity and why anyone cares is beyond me.
He's a HUGE YAY to me! One of my favorite actors.

He's not one of my favourite actors, but I've still got a few of his movies.

Overrated, but right now, I think he's brilliant. I am definitely mocking his crazy crack behavior - but I gotta say - I am addicted to TomKat these days. Freakin hilarious. As an actor - he's decent. As a celebrity - huge.
He's often incredibly lazy as an actor (Last Samurai leaps to mind, as do any number of his 80's films, the foulness of Top Gun and Days of Thunder being the worst) but he can be brilliant. Jerry Maguire, Magnolia and Rain Man (a sorely underrated performance which, in it's own understated way, is better than Hoffman's showboating) are particularly good examples but he's also solid in Born on the Fourth of July, Risky Business, Interview With The Vampire (an against type triumph) and others.
YAY for Cruise, he doesn't get his dues (oh and he was ROBBED for Supporting Actor for Magnolia, Robbed I tell you)
It's a damn shame he's a scientology poster boy now. :(

I don't know anything about Scientology and have no other Scientologists to compare him to. I am enjoying reading all the interviews and seeing his tv appearances. I read an article in Entertainment Weekly last week that was an interview and he made some interesting statements about the TomKat situation. As for War of the Worlds - I'm trying to focus on that too - I think the movie looks like it'll rock. The whole cast is everywhere - I read they're even going to be on The View next week. That should be good - can you imagine what Star Jones is going to say to Tom about Katie? I hope that little Dakota Fanning is there too and I'm sure she will be - she's funny. Maybe this movie will catapult his talent back into the light? I know I said he's overrated and I still think that - but we'll see.

Before this year, I would've said Yay, but he gets a nay for loosing his mind and brainwashing Katie Holmes.

I totally agree about this point - in the midst of all absurdity I can still say this.

he is a good actor but an asshole lately with his over the top in your face shit about Katie and Scientology - who cares??

Cruise is a cool guy. War of the Worlds owned, and it more than makes up for the fact that both Magnolia and The Last Samurai bordered awful. The former was cluttered rubbish, the latter was shitty.
